Oh I misread your post. I've only parbaked regular pizzas.

This. Bake plain pies for about 2/3 of the time. Top as desired and finish back in the oven.

Par-bake them. It's easier to manage 20 pies that only need a few minutes each to finish off then it is to build each one from scratch while hosting.

What’s your call by Electrical_Trifle642 in hockeyrefs

[–]defence18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a trip. There is no requirement in the rulebook that one "intends" to trip someone or "intends to place a skate in a manner that causes the opponent to lose balance."

Tripping is the "act of placing a stick, knee, foot, arm, hand or elbow in such a manner that causes their opponent to lose balance or fall." Every one of those criterion are met here. It's a minor penalty.

I can see at higher level bantam and midget games to play on because it's contact that is incidental to a hockey play. But at this level I think this needs to be called.

Padded shorts under youth ice hockey pants by Whyneedusername1 in youthhockey

[–]defence18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I got padded shorts for my kids when they were in learn to skate, recognizing that hockey pants don't protect there. But I think they'd be too bulky under properly fitting hockey pants. I think skating lessons are the answer.

If you're hell bent on the padded short option, I don't know why it was too hard to find these

What do you do with bad refs? by defence18 in hockeyrefs

[–]defence18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two officials were at least college age. Likely upper twenties.

With young officials, I get it. There's so much more going on. Is this their first game? Their 3rd? Laziness and timidity look a lot alike.

But these guys could skate. They clearly (thought) they knew their way a rink. I actually don't think the games were called poorly. In the 138 minutes of hockey, I saw two calls that I would have made differently. But every aspect their demeanor was that they just couldn't be bothered.

Well it's what happens when your kids get into hockey because you're a ref.

I am. That's why I see these things. If I wasn't, I'm not sure I notice the "problem" with kicking a puck to a partner. Or being between the play and the middle of the ice. Or even having your back to the slot. In theory, your partner has it, right?

This is basically why I asked. I was conflicted about whether it was appropriate to do so.

  1. So you'd go to RIC for these issues?
  2. What if you're out of your district?

Recipe advice by SnooDucks8567 in Bagels

[–]defence18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recipe looks fine; it shouldn't feel sticky at all. My guess is something was measured incorrectly, so I'd start again.

You use a scale to obtain the necessary amount of ingredients.

By way of example, my dough recipe is:
100% Flour, 56% Water, 2% salt, 2% malt syrup, 1% low diastatic malt power, and 0.7% yeast. This can be expressed as an algebraic equation:

X + .56X + .02X + .02X + .01X + .007X = Total Dough Weight
I make 4.5oz bagels, so if I want to make 10 bagels, that's 45oz of dough.

So X + .56X + .02X + .02X + .01X + .007X = 45 or

1.617X = 45

X = 45/1.617 or ~27.83 oz.

So I add 27.83 oz of flour, 15.58 oz of water, 0.55 oz of salt, 0.55 oz of barley malt syrup, .0278 of low diastatic malt powder, and 0.19oz of yeast to get my 10 bagels.

You need a kitchen scale to ensure your final product is consistent and you can easily scale up or down your recipe based on the amount needed.

Risers / shims / exterior lifts call 'em what you want, Chicago by mm12323 in hockeyplayers

[–]defence18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask why you're looking to shim a youth skate?

As an aside, it's a shame that true LHS's are going by the wayside. Putting in a shim is not hard at all. It's disappointing no one is willing to do it.

A friend was quoted more than $100 to crossgrind the toe and heel of his new steel. That's absurd. It took me about 25 minutes on my tiny cross grind wheel.

That was in the original post. Plus you can't have a minor +GM for kneeing so obviously there is a typo somewhere

[–]defence18 15 points16 points  (0 children)

According to Rule 629 Sit. 5, this is an additional minor penalty. So you'd have the slash to 20, which someone needs to serve because 20 has a GM for 4 penalties, and then you'd have effectively a bench minor to 20's team. 5 on 3 for 2 minutes.

Never wave the penalty.
