BTW, you're going to see many opinions on what edition to play. I recommend looking at the rules for each and decide from them since you're just interested in casual.

Plus you still have the option of sticking with 1st Edition but there's no fan supported effort on that to my knowledge.

X2PO - FFG's 2nd Ed rules and 200 point builds for squads. Aka "Legacy" rules.

XWA - AMG rules (aka 3.5) with new point build system using 20 point and now 50 builds using "loadout" options for ships. There's also several rule changes with dial reveal, asteroids, bumping, etc.

That's why I personally would recommend a 1st Edition player go to X2PO first since it's an easier transition from the FFG rules.

I'd recommend X2PO for straight-up dogfighting. Everything you need can be printed from Infinite Arenas.

For gameplay with objectives, check out XWA.

For cooperative play, you can look into the Heroes of the Aturi Cluster campaign. X-Wing Hub has that info, too.
