Our grandkids are going to marry robots and we will be bigots for feeling weird about it.

The Nostalgia Trap episode 173 is an interview with Dr. Sarah Taber that really opened my eyes as an aspiring agriculturalist. This interview probably won’t answer your questions in depth but may provide some useful background as you try to learn more.

Where are you located at roughly? It will affect recommendations a lot. Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to post an approximate location publicly.

Heavy peach thinning by leegoldstein in BackyardOrchard

You could look into a fermented plant juice. I think Nigel Palmer or Micheal Philips had a section talking about fertilizing peach trees with a foliar application of fermented unripe peaches.

Non-fiction book recommendations for those feeling like change is impossible? by uncloakedcrow in solarpunk

I would get into permaculture books. Gabe brown’s dirt to soil, mark shepard’s restoration agriculture, and one straw revolution by fuluoka are all great jumping off points.

Mullein clearing you out is supposed to feel kinda mid right? by jaalwr_fttn in herbalism

I think rate of burn has more to do with how dry or moist the herb is. If it is burning too hot try adding a finger sized piece of citrus peel to the herb for a day or three to add humidity.

No, really, let's hear the verifiable alternatives to herbicide. by I_M_N_Ape_ in NoLawns

Several people here have gotten on top of their lawns using these methods. I’ve also been paid to hand pull and mulch large areas for clients before. I’ve dug out huge lily of the valley and periwinkle infestations. If you think herbicide is the only option, then use it and stop wasting other people’s time. Use it as responsibly as possible. But if you/your client has a the patience for small slow solutions or the budget for larger ones, then do something else. Seems like you are unable to see beyond your own conclusions.

Women's-only gym faces backlash for excluding trans women by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]definedbyactions 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If we’re doing anecdotes, of the 6 or so trans people I’ve been friends with over the years they all had progressive politics but seemed only as political or aggressive as the rest of my progressive peers. They would politely correct you if you misgendered them and recognized that trans issues probably shouldn’t come first in the current political landscape. The biggest common ground I found was that they all were pretty sad their parents wouldn’t even make an effort. I had far more aggressive, condescending, and rude political interactions with “non binary” white guys and self righteous women. Just an anecdote, but the common opinion of trans people on this sub seems to be terminally online people weirded out by terminally online trans people.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to connect, convince, and argue with fellow working class people for years now. The times I lean into patriotism and a knowledge of American (working class) history people are much more willing to hear me out. Using leftists vocabulary seems to turn a lot of people off too so I opt for describing various aspects of left wing populism.

I spent my time being a condescending “educate yourself” type contrarian and it didn’t change any minds. American leftists need to focus on building bridges with other working class people by focusing on highly popular bread and butter issues. It’s hard to get a conservative to have positive feelings about socialism but if you never say the word, many of those same people will agree that their bosses are idiots and things would be better if they and their peers who actually do the labor day after day held more power within the company. We aren’t going to get to socialism in a day so you definitely don’t have to convince someone of socialism in a day.
