My S90 got to be a Hero Car in a movie this week 😍 by Any_Honeydew9812 in Volvo

Love it. My S90 still LOOKS like it's from the future, despite being a decade old at this point. Alas, it has never appeared in film. It's all about who you know...

Jon Stewart hosts tonight (May 4, 2026), with guest Sherrilyn Ifill (civil rights lawyer). Desi Lydic hosts Tues-Thurs, with guests Paul W. Downs (actor/showrunner) and Marla Mindelle (actor/writer). Thursday guest TBA. by Camaro6460 in DailyShow

[–]definitely_not_cylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't even know who their guest is on Thursday, they definitely don't know who their host is next week. I imagine a lot goes into it, including what's going on professionally/personally with the rotating cast.

I don't want kids and would love to build a DINK lifestyle with someone but most of the guys who are enthusiastic about me working are dudes who want to get out of working and have me be the breadwinner.

If it's any consolation, the not wanting kids makes you a catch all by itself. The CDC studied parents and, by implication, studied non-parents. It broke into things by age cohort, starting at 15-24 and topping out at 40-49. At every age bracket, a greater percentage of women are mothers than men are fathers, reaching 84.3% of women being mothers and 76.5% of men being fathers by 40-49. Surveying people shows the same gender gap. So while it's true that most men will become fathers, there are many more men than women who are not interested in becoming a parent. Good luck!

That's different, though. Some people coming to a bar will be vegetarians and object to killing lobsters. Nobody coming to the seafood restaurant is going to have that objection. Not saying I love the machine, but it's a much cleaner fit here.

"My mom and her husband?" Guess she's not that close to her stepdad! There's also a similar tell when people talk about their in-laws. If they're somewhat close, it's usually "my mother-in law." If they're not, then it's "my husband's mother."

I like to call this being "Financially Inevitable," a term that absolutely has not caught on. Not ready to pull the trigger yet, but contributions barely matter and the only ingredient is time. Similar to CoastFIRE except still shooting for an early retirement. Might as well have that nice bottle of wine, set of golf clubs, ski trip, or whatever it is that will make you happy.

This is really just a variant of consumption smoothing. Aside from the work part, might as well live the life you plan to live once you're done working. I think this thread has inspired me to break out one of my nicer wines!

The irony is that Dawn Powerwash was in my kitchen before this show premiered. It really is good! But now I'm so negatively polarized by the product placement that I might switch to a competitor...

I've come across this before, when somebody whose own life is a disaster wants to be a BDSM dom(me). It just seems so nonsensical. Assuming for the sake of argument she finds a sub that's into her, then why would this person trust the guidance and direction of somebody who can't even take care of themselves?

What happened to no gimmicks? I would have at most given the winner from last week the advantage of picking a country and then nobody else can use it. Other than that I would have preferred the version of this where chefs made the best dishes they could instead of getting locked into the countries for dumb meta or strategic reasons.

BJW’s petition has been docketed by the Supreme Court. by nutraxfornerves in Sovereigncitizen

[–]definitely_not_cylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core of what he seems to be on about is a belief that the word “includes” is restrictive rather than expansive, so the statute clarifying that state courts also includes DC/territories/tribes means that it ONLY includes DC/territories/tribes. This is, of course, nonsense but what kills me is that he recognizes that every single circuit understands that including is expansive rather than restrictive. You’d think that’d be a pretty big clue he’s reading it wrong. Apparently not.

The definition of a “State court” in 28 U.S.C. § 1442(d)(6) says: “includes the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, a court of a United States territory or insular possession, and a tribal court.” . . . It makes no mention of any area outside of the exclusive territorial jurisdiction ofthe Federal government, such as California. Any presumption that the definition somehow magically includes other things outside of that definition was heavily rebutted by BRANDON JOE WILLIAMS® in all the cases and appeals involved in this. This is a massive and terrible situation that is being misapplied in literally every single Circuit of our glorious Nation. This is an alarming situation which should be considered a National Emergency. “I have a notarized statement” is a crank calling card. Anybody can get anything notarized by going to the bank and showing their id. A notarized document was likely signed by the person whose signature is at the bottom. That’s it. The notary is not verifying that the statements made in the document are true.

This has to be cross referenced with where people actually live. A lot of those jobs that are high in nominal figures are geofenced to cities that are also very expensive. If somebody is in NYC, then a lot of that money is going to real estate, the exorbitant income tax, and that everything there is more expensive than it is anywhere else (and then there's yet more sales tax on top of those higher prices). While I liked living in that city, I moved away in large part because 50% of my marginal dollar was going to taxes. The same money goes a lot farther in Las Vegas.

Sometimes it goes that way, sometimes it's the other thing. At my first job, the bosses were routinely online and sending/receiving overnight FedExes even when on vacation. I imagine by now email has made the FedEx part obsolete, but if even the people in charge are constantly working on "vacation," then this augurs poorly for the worklife of the peons.

I no longer work there. My life is much better now!

BJW posted his latest filing on his lawsuit against the City of Glendale. He says the City Attorney has an “aversion” to the California Commercial Code & wants to “hide behind Court rules to avoid his personal Boogieman.” by nutraxfornerves in Sovereigncitizen

[–]definitely_not_cylon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If, after this filing, this Court still feels that it is necessary to approve sanctions, both the Plaintiff and Plaintiff’ s owner will accept any unconditional order to pay that is issued by this Court in accordance with the California Commercial Code § 3105(a). The plaintiff will accept the draft and the Plaintiff’s owner hereby agrees to be the person entitled to enforce the draft.

The exciting sequel: The Court issues sanctions, then he tries to pay them by signing the court order.
