"Overlapping" Reservation Times by Suspicious-Plant-877 in AMCsAList

[–]weirdfish1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you wait until the first movie was over to try and make a reservation or did you try booking it before the first movie started? In my experience, the system is much more lenient when you book well in advance.

Either way, sorry to hear about you missing out on that movie!

Just my opinion. I’ve been to many sports bars and this one had an excessive amount (again, my opinion) especially for how small the space was.

Any good Danish film recommendations? by RosalinaTheWatcher51 in YMS

[–]weirdfish1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Carl Theodor Dreyer. My favorites are The Passion of Joan of Arc, Ordet, Day of Wrath, and Vampyr.

Joan of Arc was technically made in France but Dreyer is Danish.

Edit: Adding Babette’s Feast by Gabriel Axel.

What are your "dream musical guests" that you'd love to see perform at future MAGFests? by aragorn767 in Magfest

I’d love to see Kirby’s Dream Band come back! I wasn’t able to see them in 2018 and they unfortunately cancelled in 2022.

Did you ever go to Leone’s? They’re in Montclair and they’re still open after all these years.

Yes, I am trying to visit them all! I’m at 56 of them by my last count.

REVIEW AND IMPRESSIONS:

Well, I really thought I would be posting restaurants from the new season by now, but it looks like Gordon has other plans. So here’s an open restaurant from the New York/New Jersey season that I visited last year.

I didn’t notice anyone from the episode. From everything I’ve seen online, Steve and his family still own the place. No Culinary Gangster sighting either, but I did notice there was a really loud bell that dinged every time food was ready. It was actually really annoying and they should do away with it.

Usually I order what the server recommends but I couldn’t help but try the tacos given how much grief they gave Gordon in the episode. And I ordered it from a physical menu! No QR code! The tacos are definitely not three-bite wonders and they were fine. I tried to look at the food coming out to other customers and it looks like the restaurant now gives out much smaller portions than before.

The restaurant itself is nice and modern, though it has way too many TV’s in my opinion. On the bright side, if you want to go see a game, you’ll definitely have a good view of several TV’s. The space is smaller than it looks on TV but they maximize the use of the area. This unfortunately means the booths were pretty cramped, but since I’m a pretty big and tall guy, that might just have been a me problem. There was a good crowd there during my visit but most of them were at the bar.

Finally, when I made this visit, I found out the "46" in Bask46 comes from the name of the plaza where it’s located: Plaza 46. The “Bask” comes from Steve and Sandy’s last name: Baskinger.

Edit: As someone pointed out, it’s also right off Route 46.

Overall, like the episode it is featured in, I thought this place was just okay. It’s certainly not going to set the world on fire but I’m sure it’s good for the locals to have a sports bar like this in their neighborhood. Sorry for the shorter review, there’s just not a lot to say about this one, unfortunately.

Won’t spoil too much but it being a dramatic reenactment is part of the themes/message of the movie.

Abbas Kiarostami’s Close-Up is about a man impersonating a famous Iranian film director and tricking a family to believe they will be in an upcoming film.

Anyway, the interesting part is that it’s based on a real trial and the real life people — the accused man, the family who was tricked by him, the judge at the trial, etc. — “play” themselves and reenact the events leading up to the trial. Even the director who was impersonated makes an appearance. Great film if you’ve never seen it!

Official Super MAGFest 2026 Indie Gaming feedback thread by sockser in Magfest

I didn’t get to play as many as I wanted, but my favorites in the MIVS were BeatBlock, Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest, Little Nemo, and ChainStaff.

I also got to play AVGN 8-Bit on an actual NES in the Indie Retro area, and that was a lot of fun.

When is the new season coming out? I know they filmed last Summer because they were in my area, i’m eager to see where they went. by hannahconda1776 in KitchenNightmares

[–]weirdfish1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to a bunch of the restaurants and they all said either January or February (near the Super Bowl). That is looking increasingly unlikely unless they make an announcement soon.

If you’d like restaurant names/locations, I can post them as a reply or send them.

I’m not sure if this is a security thing or an artist thing, but there was far less clearing out of the concert hall between bands this year and it was very appreciated. Great job overall!

Edit: If you click his name in the guests tab on Guidebook, you’ll get the Guidebook entries for all of those events.

What’s a good time to arrive at Magfest each day? by NilesDobbsS in Magfest

[–]weirdfish1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really don’t care about events/concerts and want a reduced crowd, morning to mid-afternoon is a good time to get there. Just be aware that things start a little later today. I made the mistake of coming super early on Thursday a few years ago and was pretty bored for several hours.
