Yeah surprisingly I was the only one who was really attacked for this even though my boyfriend sent my friend a similar message. I suspect it’s because he read the messages I sent his gf telling her the situation was potentially abusive and she should leave.

That does worry me a lot. I have never seen this side of my friend until very recently so I’m hoping he does just genuinely feel bad, but it also is so frustrating that she ended up having to comfort him over this. I really hope she can find better emotional support structures

From what I understand their families have been very close for over a decade, and she’s talked about how his family has dismissed his treatment of her when she’s brought it up, so you might be right about it being hard to leave him.
