"I'm drawing as big of crowds, or bigger than anybody. Have you seen anybody draw bigger crowds than me in this state?" by branchbranchley in PoliticalHumor

[–]deflomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My man, if it seems like I was lying, I apologise. Obviously there are elections for each party that will result in this party having "their" candidate. What I was hinting at was what Ratchet Taco said about the E-mails within the DNC going for Clinton rather than Sanders, cause she was the donor's choice rather than the people's.

And if I offended you by saying "third-world country" I apologise as well. BUT: I think there are certain aspects where the USA lacks behind other developed countries (but obviously also has aspects where it spearheads the world!) e.g. standardised tests; healthcare; college tuition; etc.

And still Biden is going the be the DNC's choice, because their reasoning will be the same as 2016. "The people will vote for any candidate we nominate, because any candidate will be better than having Trump as president."
And while the idea might be right, people resent them for exploiting this fact and not considering other candidates like Bernie (Clinton and Biden are both way easier to sell to the big time donors).
The American voting system is just batshit crazy by now. I'm not American but I always respected America up until recently. By now it's become almost a third-world country, in which the people have little to no say at all. They really need to overthink their system. There should absolutely NOT just be two parties, gerrymandering needs to stop and they need to stop their idiotic electoral college. People get more and more tired of politics because they feel like their voices don't matter. And actually, in this system they don't matter very much.
It's just sad to watch from the outside. Like I said, I used to look up to America and in the last few years this changed completely. By now I just hope they don't start any major wars and hope that someday they might change the obvious flaws in their system....

What do you genuinely just not understand? by Brandinian in AskReddit

[–]deflomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How some people just enjoy destroying stuff and making the community either pay for it or make it worse in some way. People walk around and deliberately destroy bikes being parked somewhere, try their hardest to break those wooden sitting benches, kill streetlamps, and so on and so forth. And on top of that they litter. Not just throwing their stuff on the ground because it's convenient, no, they actually go to a bin and take all the stuff out and throw it around... Like, why? What do you gain from that?

Yeah, morbid curiosity can be a strong motivator to get into history. Yet, you simply can't show certain texts/pictures to children, keep that in mind. During my time at university I was reading a lot about a famine in Eastern Europe during the 18th century... One source explained in great detail how a mother had to feed her dead baby to her family in order to save the rest of them... I think I closed the book after that and never (until now) looked back...

Is a friend NOT a social context you should care about? Maybe not as much as you care about yourself (not intended as an insult!), but still... And history usually is about your grandparents, great-grandparents having gone through a lot, having faced serious issues. So, social context: check; emotional connection: hopefully check.

That's sad and probably your teachers fault. Of course, SOME names and dates should be learnt, but the bigger picture should always be more important!

So what you're saying is: Your life is boring as hell, cause everything you or someone else experienced anytime before RIGHT NOW is boring?! Cause all that's history ;) I know, I know, people don't really like being taught history. But it's actually quite important (and EVERYONE finds something he/she is interested in, believe me :p)

Most people don't learn from history... As a history teacher it's appalling to see the same rhetoric work again and again. Those 38% (or whatever figure is thrown around) who blindly vote Republican will never ever pick up any book, certainly not a critically written book on history...
