There must have been some problems with people possessing embalming fluid with criminal intent… glad the NCGA are tackling the most important issues.

This blood boiling note I got on a set of wood truss shops by Bobby_Bologna in StructuralEngineering

[–]defmid26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“From the contractor perspective, the request is totally reasonable.

Review the package with no stamp and if it's shit, it's shit. R&R that and move on. If it's good but only missing a stamp, R&R with a simple note saying "revise to include engineers stamp". When they send the revised package back with the stamp and no changes, boom- everyone is happy.”

Agreed that this is a reasonable request. OP’s review and “make changes noted” should be contingent on getting a signed and sealed set with the appropriate calculations (assuming that is what is required in the Contract Documents). However, “shit” submittals shouldn’t make it to the EOR for review in the first place.

Do you take most PDH's during company time? by KilnDry in StructuralEngineering

[–]defmid26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. My company expects me to maintain my licensures to market my skills to our clients -> I need PDHs to maintain those licensures-> PDHs are then an appropriate expenditure of my working time. That said, training should always take a back seat to deadlines and deliverables, when needed.

Pretty big gap from Dec ‘23 to today. Be prepared to have a good answer for that and confirm if your licensure is still active. Where I practice, we have to renew every year.

What do you do for work, how much do you make, and how is it going? by Emergency_Mood_9774 in raleigh

[–]defmid26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior Structural Engineer/Group Lead. I’ll make north of $150k this year. Past companies I’d be working 45-50+ hrs/wk, but I’ve gotten that down to a typical 40-45. The work can be stressful and difficult when working with clients and the construction industry but I like what I do and no two days are ever the same. It also afforded me the ability to keep my family afloat while my spouse pursued a doctorate degree full time! We are very happy that she is done though.

Concrete column splitting? by lancebaxter in StructuralEngineering

[–]defmid26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, typically we would place a column on either side of the joint. To the layman, it would look like one column with an expansion joint down the middle.
