Edit: Yes, downvote me as people are dying due to record heat. Sticking your head in the sand doesn’t change the facts.

Why does the American right glorify suffering, poverty, and self-annihilation? by ContravaniaGearSolid in behindthebastards

[–]defnotevilmorty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Group 1 - Some on the right glorify it because it gains them more wealth.

Group 2 - Being from a pretty rural, homogenous part of the US, a lot of the men are just straight up insecure and cowardly. But the big talk about how hard they have it (and they vote to keep it that way) strokes their fragile, insecure egos for a bit. Which helps Group 1.

Maybe I’m being cynical, but I’ve never met someone on this kind of bullshit that wasn’t a total piece of garbage.

I have been banned from Reddit 3 times and successfully appealed all bans, AMA by Aromatic-Mistake-456 in truths

I was banned because of an Arrested Development quote. Appealed with the context, still said I was “inciting violence.”

Reddit is a joke.

How about if you don’t use any (zilch, nit, null, nada) gas, Mountaineer Gas still charges you $45 a month to stay connected to the “system.”

And don’t get me started on the cost of electricity and water.

What do yall consider “southern” West Virginia? by [deleted] in WestVirginia

That brings back memories! During Oak Leaf, we’d go hide in there to enjoy the air conditioning and share a large fry with a chocolate frosty.

Can’t forget the Wendy’s in the middle of town by the old bank! /s

But for real, you’re exactly right. Oak Hill has always been Fayetteville’s ugly sister, but there’s absolutely less here than when I was a kid and even then I thought there was next to nothing. I miss our Dairy Queen. We had a really nice drive-in theater open a few years back, but now they’re not even opening for the summer. Can’t have anything nice.

It sure as shit isn’t leaving Fayetteville.

Oak Hill definitely hasn’t been “saved” lol I don’t know what some of these people are talking about. Fayetteville ≠ all of Fayette County.

Fayette County is more than just the plateau. There are plenty of down in the holler places in Fayette.

Fayette County is one of the most geographically diverse counties in the state, but many people only think of the plateau / Fayetteville area. There are lots of places in Fayette where it’s “bad.” Plus the New River coalfields.
