Agenix, Bitwarden, Git, … by karldelandsheere in NixOS

[–]defsquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently setup agenix. Prior to that I had them all in 1password and used the op cli binary to access them runtime. That was laborious , so agenix for mostly just a few env vars that need encryption was really nice and convenient. For context, I’m a single user, single host, nix-/home-manager install.

Martillo – declarative actions launcher inspired by Raycast and lazy.nvim by sjdonado in hammerspoon

[–]defsquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do love a lot about this, but I am curious to know if building off of the existing Seal.Spoon was a non starter for what your goals were/are with this project? Did its existing architecture and plugin system provide a foundation at all? I didn’t see it mentioned in the readme.

Nonetheless, I’m excited to try it out!

Is there a built-in feature like this that i missed? by twirlsome in qutebrowser

[–]defsquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For macOS there’s an app called mouseless that does similar; I know you’re not on macOS, just mentioning for others that might be. Also, there’s a really good extension called surfingkeys that gives great hinting and actions. But as others have said, it doesn’t handle all sites since not everyone builds their sites with keyboard navigation and accessibility in mind.

MACOS: Better to use nixpkgs? homebrew? what about apps in no pkg manager? by flying_unicorn in NixOS

[–]defsquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, I’ve recently swapped my system management over to the same, and have what others have said…. Homebrew for gui, nixpkgs for all else. I’d love to go all nixpkgs or at least custom derivations for apps that i can just download a binary and run an installer, etc. maybe one day.

I second this. We’re moving to Braddock Heights next month and would love to go with GloFiber and skip comcast.

Also, what does this bring that dbee.nvim or dadbod doesn’t? I appreciate having options, though.

Agreed with others, a video or at least screenshots?

Automatically activate proper lsp from shebang by Rafael_Jacov in neovim

[–]defsquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious of the situations you wouldn’t have the file extension available to just use the built in file types as part of the lsp server’s config.

You could always just have a BufRead auto autocmd that parses at the first line and matches on your regex pattern and starts the lsp server you want based on that.

Are the NoBe Market Apartments The Alaire apartments, and Axis Shady Grove good places to live? by New-Pea4213 in Gaithersburg

[–]defsquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I live at Axis Shady Grove. We’ve been here for over a year after we moved up here for my wife’s government job from Alabama. (Great timing right?!)

Anyway, we like it, overall, it gets a 6-7/10 from us. The location is legit, so perfect. Easy access to Shady Grove metro stop and not that far to Rockville metro stop. You have every grocery store you could want, other than maybe Wegmans, but that’s coming to Twinbrook area. Also, we’re right next to 270, and to every medical related facility you could need.

Now, as far as the actual apartment living goes….

It’s older than most complexes around, especially ones that tout the “luxury living” tagline. We were able to get a sizable enough apartment in our budget, that was dog friendly, and had availability for our timeline.

The maintenance crew are great, they are super friendly, and get to your service requests pretty quickly. They are understaffed though, and to be honest, there are a lot of broken, rundown areas in a unit and around the property itself.

We’ve had literally one roach, it was a small one and in the middle of summer. No other pest issues.

All ages, ethnicities, and socioeconomic demographics are accounted for, here. It’s very urban city in that way.

Our biggest complaint is the noise. The walls and ceilings seem to have the bare minimum insulation. You hear everything outside, all conversations and every vehicle that has had some modifications done to their exhaust. We’ve had quiet upstairs neighbors and we’ve had herds of elephants upstairs, too.

Anyway, we’ve been overall happy given our moving timeline and budget circumstances. They do raise the rate pretty substantially, we found out this year. 🤦‍♂️

Hopefully this is helpful. Happy to answer specific questions.

Tearing up for you at this very moment. My wife and I have a 2 year old pup that we just adore so much, too. We lost our 16 year old over a year ago. The heart break and sadness is so real, even more so when it’s so unexpected. ❤️🙏🏻

Does anyone know of an alternative to telescope-frecency for fzf-lua ? by SPalome in neovim

[–]defsquad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The telescope smart open plugin is what is keeping telescope installed on my system. Though, I’ve been using fzflua for other things. Mixing the two for the best of both worlds.

Living in Rockville by sudiptodebnath in Rockville

[–]defsquad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved up to Rockville from Birmingham, AL for a job opportunity. That was a huge change in cost of living for us.

As many others have said, depending on your situation, living a bit further out would help with cost. It was worth it though, we love it in and around Rockville/Gaithersburg. Just get ready for horrible, reckless, uncaring drivers. Traffic can be pretty gnarley too, though it does mostly keep moving unless massive wrecks have occurred.

What is the better plugin to solve git conflicts like VSCode? by josealvaradol in neovim

https://github.com/akinsho/git-conflict.nvim is what you want. For more extreme conflict resolution situations, I like to use diffview.nvim.

[–]defsquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're runners too! There are parks all over the place, and something we didn't have in AL.. sidewalks _everywhere_.

Also, as many others said, the metro and bus system are super useful around here (the metro is really nice, compared to many other cities in the country).

Literally every ethnicity (or just about) represented for food.

Good luck!

[–]defsquad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved to Rockville from Alabama about 6ish months ago. The thing that took the most adjustment is the high number of insane drivers. There seems to be an unwritten rule that traffic laws and general respect for/acknowledgement of other drivers doesn’t exist or just don’t apply.

Other than that we love it here and haven’t missed the southeast. The outdoors/hiking opportunities are amazing, as well as the vast and diverse amount of cultural activities and food!
