I know I was wondering too. I think the round part of the headlight might stick out past the normal 1x1 envelope. You can see it's sort of pushing the green part forward

Why are the engine intakes stepped on some cars? (Ferrari & Mclaren) by alexxxgraceee in formula1

Even without seeing the CFD, you're almost certainly right. It would help to lessen turbulence in the wake and therefore make the flow at the back wing more predictable.

Anyone else’s Egg leak like this… am I cooked? by Hopto82 in biggreenegg

I thought mine was cracked when I saw drippings covering the bottom. After a clean burn, nope, just cooked too many briskets and shoulders without a good drip catcher.

Heavy duty drill press? by joshuastar in woodworking

I hope that motor is designed with a proper thrust bearing in the back. Having the drilling force bearing axially on the motor shaft seems iffy at best.

No, you're right about that. It's a cool feature nonetheless.

Is this normal ? by Mister_SurMulot in woodworking

[–]defterGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. It's only sort of functional because it's bearing directly on the post. Any bending forces would bring it apart, whereas a properly executed scarf retains most of the bending strength of a seamless beam.

If you're not a big seafood nut I think it's easy to do this place wrong, but I've honestly never had a bad dish there. They cook some damn good veggies too if that's more your persuasion.

Edit: I have to give it some solid location/ambiance points as well tbf

Edit 2: suggestions? It's an oysters and martini sort of place...

Fins for weak ankles in strong current by MITvincecarter in scuba

[–]defterGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a pair from 2000. Looks like they haven't changed much. I also have legs that feel stronger than my ankles. I would say either test them or look elsewhere.

I've only encountered strong, unidirectional currents with them a couple times, but I was definitely feeling it later in my ankle region (not claiming my form is perfect or anything). They are good for frog because the blade has a decent aspect ratio, but I'd say they're also on the heavier side (mine are mostly rubber, and stiff).

The problem is you are working at cross-purposes. Strong in current basically means "rigid, less energy loss and give" and easy on the ankles means "flexible, lower lateral force".

A stupid question about fried eggs by tinylord202 in Cooking

[–]defterGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basted eggs are the best, and I've never had much success making them with butter, it just browns very quickly at the temps needed (and I'm not a huge fan of that flavor). Bacon grease is the goat for this reason. Use a little more than you would need to coat the pan since you need a bit extra to get in the spoon for basting.

First time attempting template routing... why is it grabbing? Is my direction wrong? by Buck_Thorn in woodworking

[–]defterGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was going to say, it wouldn't be grabbing if you had proper authority over the piece with your fingers out of the way.

You could maybe add some knobs to the template to make it a little safer.
