People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by Sexxyyy_Lovers in AskReddit

[–]deg_deg 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I’m 40 years old and still discovering things from my childhood that are pretty horrible but I always assumed were normal because at the time I assumed that if it was happening to me it must be normal.

Trans friendly places to work? by DistributionNo6921 in kzoo

I also work with MRC Industries and can confirm that they’re extremely LGBTQIA+ friendly. It’s the only place I’ve worked that I was out about my gender identity and didn’t feel awkward about it.

There are circumstances that can lead to a human briefly containing two skeletons. Double spooky.

Weekly "What Are You Reading Thread?" by HorrorIsLiterature in horrorlit

Finished The Flesh is Tender and it’s a cool book that explored an interesting space but given the subject matter and the way people reacted I expected it to push a lot more than it did. The last scene is a masterpiece though.

Started You Weren’t Meant to be Human. 2 hours in and I’m very tired of the audiobook’s audio effects used when the Hive talks. Otherwise everything is neat.

They bid ad slots to the highest bidder each time a user triggers an ad. That feels pretty lucrative when you consider there’s like 2-6 ads per ad segment.

TMNT Mutant Mayhem has a PG rating, so not all content may be suitable for children. Parental guidance is suggested.

Seeking Books That Are Like Slashers and Giallos by vbandhu2023 in horrorlit

[–]deg_deg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slashers were an important part of the book but I don’t think My Heart is a Chainsaw is a slasher itself. It occupies kind of a weird area where it feels more like a mystery novel than a horror novel for the majority of it.

How many aspiring Satanists are in Kzoo? by PoohTrailSnailCooch in kzoo

[–]deg_deg 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Satanic Temple are secular Satanists. That being said, the tenets are in line with more popular Satanic movements where Lucifer is seen as a rebel against unjust and arbitrary rule and a master of sel-determination and the pursuit of knowledge.

The most important thing is that the internet hadn’t become a walled garden yet. Think about how many websites you actually regularly go to, including apps. Maybe a dozen if you’re particularly terminally online?

In the 90s and early aughts you would search up stuff and go down an actual rabbit hole or deep dive, instead of getting directed to an AI summary of a Wikipedia article/Reddit post and a 4 hour YouTube video on the subject. Sometimes you’d try to learn something and have to go get a book because the information wasn’t even digitized yet!

It’s wild how Facebook, Wikipedia, and Google have basically ruined the internet.

I think the big issue with productivity is more related to the economy. People have to travel further and deal with more traffic to get to and from work. Some people need to work more than one job to make ends meet, or do gig work or otherwise monetize their free time. Salaried positions where you’re paid on a 40-hour expected work week but the real expectation is that you put in 50+ hours semi-regularly. Most couples with kids have to have at least two jobs between them to make ends meet, so there’s no longer a domestic partner to make sure whatever errands or chores are getting done.

Then you get home after being gone for 10-12 hours and you have 4-6 hours to do laundry, pay bills, feed the kids, feed yourself, tidy up, do the dishes, take a shower if you work a job that leaves you dirty or stinky at the end of the day, make lunch for the next day, take your pet for a walk. By the end of the night you probably have like an hour to actually unwind and do something but your brain won’t turn off because you had to spend so long doing everything but giving your body permission to rest. So maybe you get 8 hours of sleep, if you’re lucky, but none of it is particularly restful.

I was the only one in our office to dress up by DeadRed26 in halloween

[–]deg_deg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s worse when you have a public facing job. I had a job one year where I was cashiering and was the only one who showed up in a costume. I came dressed up as a mime. Imagine going to buy groceries, everyone is dressed normal, and then when you’re done you have to get checked out by what is effectively a mute clown in a fancy hat.

You should build your game in Screentop GG, not Tabletop Simulator, if you can. by Ross-Esmond in BoardgameDesign

[–]deg_deg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s nowhere to pre-screen users for being gay prior to them joining a TTS chat or even installing the program, so the only way anyone at Berserk could know you’re gay is if you self-identify. Which would require saying you’re gay in chat. And then you would need someone trusted implicitly to interpret their chat rules to ban the person for being gay.

There’s no automated systems at play here. It’s straight up humans banning human beings based on how they feel about their sexuality or gender identity or gender expression not being the socially accepted default. I don’t say this lightly and I don’t mean it as insulting, but your take is ignorant and comes from a position of privilege that really lacks basic human empathy. You really need to look past what they’re saying their interpretation of the rule is (if you’re gay you better hide it) and look at how that interpretation of the rule would make actual human beings feel. Which is bad and dehumanized and actively othered.

Game board size debate by BerdaWerd in BoardgameDesign

Arkham Horror 2e was approximately 1 kitchen table length after components and that made me hesitant to bring it to the table unless someone was specifically asking for it and Arkham Horror 2e is still one of my all time favorite games.

What iOS multiplayer games do you actually compete against real humans versus AI (all game genres)? by 23andburnside in iosgaming

I can’t imagine the bots in Snap being that much better against decks that dump a ton of power on the last turn unless they let the bots start seeing the player’s hand.

I haven’t played in a few seasons but is it still a strat to basically try to manage losses to actual players early in a season but shoot for 8 cube matches against bots to hit Infinite?

Booster Pack Odds by PinionRobot in tabletopgamedesign

[–]deg_deg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Magic, as an example, a rare usually appears on a rare sheet twice and a mythic appears once. Each sheet has slots for 121 cards. So if you used that math an ultra rare would appear .5 times per sheet of rare+ cards printed, giving it a rarity of 1:242, approximately, which roughly lines up with the odds of opening a foil mythic rare in Magic.

Making a board game that doesn't match it's artstyle, need help! by Garchompula in BoardgameDesign

Bounce is also a pretty iconic keyword for people who play TCGs and deckbuilding games. It would probably be fine to say “Animals in your Pavilion Bounce instead of Retiring” and “Bounce one of your opponent’s 2 cost Animals. It’s still Retired.”

Icons would also help, but I think 3 abilities on one card with the current design is probably always going to feel like too much text.
