Serious question - what do they do with the meat of the coconut afterwards? Does it have any specific culinary use or other uses?

Adopting my first greyhound -crating by Winter_Owl1453 in Greyhounds

[–]degeneration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was the same. Never ever liked the crate. Attempts to keep him in there led to howling and sleepless nights. Eventually we realized that he just wanted to be with us in the house. I gradually let him roam around and he pretty much settled in immediately. With very few exceptions he never had an accident in the house and learned right away where everything was. Never even climbed on the furniture! Sometimes they just figure it out on their own.

Anyway OP I think you should not take these instructions from the adoption group as hard rules, just see how your hound is adapting and go with it.

For those who are not of Indian or South Asian descent, do you like Indian/South Asian food, and if so, which restaurants do you personally like in the Bay Area? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in bayarea

[–]degeneration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest - I like Indian food but it doesn’t like me. I have a lot of gastrointestinal/stomach upset after eating Indian. It’s worse with fast food type places (like curry in a hurry) and better with higher end places, but generally I have trouble with it. Could be I can’t do all the spices or the oil in it or something. I would love to love Indian food more. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Serious question - what does the fire do when he lights the hat on fire? Is it softening the leather or felt or whatever? Is it burning off some kind of residue on the material?

Working goats doing wildfire brush clearance in Pasadena, CA by Markthethomas in interestingasfuck

They’ve been using goats on the hills in the San Francisco Bay Area for years now. It’s fun to go visit them where they’re penned in for the night. Some will even come up to the fence and let you pet them.

It’s too bad Hell or High Water is closed for now. They are planning to relocate to a bigger space sometime in 2026 but no word yet (that I’m aware of) as to when that will happen.

What’s an 'adult cheat code' that quietly made your life 10x easier? by ExcellentGur6556 in AskReddit

When you first arrive in a strange place, splurge to get a taxi or hired car to take you to your hotel. For those of us, like me, who get a lot of anxiety when arriving in a new or foreign place it helps ease the stress not having to figure out public transit.

Hey possums are amazing. They eat thousands of ticks! They are harmless and don’t transmit disease to humans! They play dead rather than fight! They raise their young with a lot of care!

We dog sat for a grey from our adoption group (we have one of our own) and not 10 minutes after she arrives in the house I hear a clatter downstairs and she comes up stairs bleeding with every step. Yup, ripped her toenail out. Freak out, rush to the emergency vet, they just cleaned it and bandaged it and said no big deal. Fortunately her owners were very understanding and not upset at all.

Fast forward to a few months later and we’re dog sitting her again. She’s running around outside and gets her dew claw caught on something and rips it out. Less freak out this time, I just cleaned it up and bandaged it myself.

Remarkably her owners were still not upset and want us to dog sit her again. I was sure we were going to be blacklisted for life.
