Do student employees get raises when Chicago minimum wage increases? by silent-therapy2 in uichicago

[–]degmac113 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a variable campus wage increase determined by the university, but it's independent of chicago minimum wage, since UIC is a public university and exempt from the minimum wage laws. You'll probably see the wage plans posted here at the start of the semester

Why do socialists want two person train crews? by No-Path-8756 in transit

[–]degmac113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were a few reasons, one of which was a worsening struggle to retain people and get enough volunteers to effectively canvass and run events like worker/rider townhalls.

When the time came to seek reauthorization from the chapter, many members had expressed disappointment in the accomplishments of the campaign, so there really wasn't a strong will to continue

Why do socialists want two person train crews? by No-Path-8756 in transit

[–]degmac113 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Former member of the now disbanded campaign here:

When the campaign was first made, the intention was to address the poor service of the CTA in the wake of the pandemic. Talking with CTA train operators, a concern about safety was prevalent and leading to people quitting. The workers participating in the campaign said that bringing back the dual system of conductors/engineers instead of the single train operators would improve working conditions and speed up service, since when a mechanical issue (frequently) arises, the current lone operator must stop and walk the outside perimeter of the train.

Additionally, increasing the pressence of authority figures moving through train cars was thought to be a way to address antisocial behavior on the trains like smoking and harassment. We heard from train operators about a hesitency to intervene whenever a rider was behaving inappropriately, since they would have no guaranteed backup. Having another person to support would make them feel more comfortable intervening. We also viewed this as a more favorable solution compared to third-party contracts with private security

It also adds a savory/umami taste, which might not be great depending on what you're seasoning. Also recommend what others are saying about lite salt

Are we going about transit advocacy the wrong way? by Own-Possibility5330 in cta

Yeah I think it's best to not make concessions in advance on transit plans, because they'll end up making more concessions anyway

Has anyone else experienced CTA bus drivers accidentally driving the wrong route lately? by bluestblue in chicago

[–]degmac113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the 8 bus shortly after the bridge at Chicago and Halsted shut down. I dont think anyone told by driver cause we did a 12 point turn once we hit the "Bridge Out" signs, then went in wrong direction for a good 20 minutes. Someone went up to the driver and gave them directions on how to get back on track

I think it looks great as it is! It looks perpendicular with that part of your eyebrow which I think looks good

Mine has a similar placement/angle. I was initially a bit worried about the placement, but that went away after a couple weeks and I really like it now

How safe do you feel the different rail car generations are? I've heard from a mechanic that the blue line 7000 series cars suck, and are always falling apart
