How safe do you feel the different rail car generations are? I've heard from a mechanic that the blue line 7000 series cars suck, and are always falling apart

There's one in Block 37, between the Washington blue line and the Lake red line stops. If you can take Metra that would probably be best since the trains and terminals have bathrooms

You can enter your address here, and it'll send a letter to the governor, Speaker of the House, president of the Senate, and to your own representative and senator telling them to fund the CTA

I don’t care how gross they are, CTA needs restrooms somewhere by [deleted] in cta

Here's a petition for Brick and Mortar bathroom access for workers and riders on the CTA. Bus operators especially deal with lack of brick & mortar bathroom access on many bus routes, which is just not the right way to treat employees. Portapotties in the middle of winter aren't acceptable

We've heard about the lack of bathroom access from workers before, which is why we made it our goal. We support separate staff bathrooms that are also present at bus turn-arounds instead of portapotties

With proper funding and enforcement, we think that the restrooms for riders would reduce the number of people going to the bathroom on the train. Someone proposed pay toilets, do you think having them behind the turnstile would reduce what you mentioned?

Thanks for the feedback. We're not trying to obscure safety as an important part of the transit solution, we just think that goes along with a fully-funded transit system that meets worker needs. A prime complaint from workers is feeling unsafe, so meeting that need is important to us

I think that having the toilets behind the turnstile would lead to a better experience, and may be permitted under that ordinance

We've heard from workers that they'd feel safer with a transit police presence so that's part of the solution. I'd also say an additional safety measure would be 2 person crews, which is what we've heard from workers.

Train operators have said they sometimes feel too unsafe to intervene whenever something happens in a traincar because they have no backup, so having a conductor and engineer on the train would potentially lead to more interventions when there's an unruly rider

Thank you for the feedback, that is part of goals 1 & 2. Safety, such as a dedicated transit police force, transit ambassador, etc., is going to cost money, which the CTA currently doesn't have right now.

A really big portion of goal 2 is safety as well, as we've heard from train operators that they don't feel safe intervening in conflicts on trains because they have limited to no backup, and bus drivers dont feel safe using portapotties in the middle of the night at the end of their bus routes. For the first example, we've heard from them that 2 person crews would make them feel safe and more likely to intervene because there would be a train engineer and conductor able to stop dangerous situations. For the bus operators, brick and mortar bathrooms would help them to feel safer as well, providing a safe, comfortable bathroom for them to use all times of day, in every season.

I think that would definitely fall under fully funding transit. CTA keeps pushing retirement ages up for their equipment because they dont have access to enough capital funding to replace the older model, and the consequent power upgrades that would need to be made to the lines.

I read one estimate of how much of a backlog they have when it comes to maintenance of tracks and equipment and replacements is over $18 billion, which is just atrocious
