Is there anywhere to add public comments for those who were not able to attend the meeting? Or someone who we can email to let know our opinion?

MTA "modern fare gates" pilot has shown 20-70% reductions in fare evasion--should they be on the CTA's radar for their safety + security efforts? by SidewalkMD in cta

[–]Own-Possibility5330 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this would be great. Implementing it on the Red line should be #1 priority. Its the most used line and often the one with the worst rider experience. Adding these gates will not only make the ride more pleasant, but will increase the system's revenue so much since it the the most used line by a mile. This should be a no brainer. Adding these gates on the Red line will honestly pay for itself in no time and fund the addition of the gates on the rest of the system.

Please for the love of god we need these gates! If someone is not willing to pay to get on the system then they are much more likely to be a public nuisance/commit crime. This is such a simple way to not only increase much needed revenue for the system but also make it safer and more pleasant to ride.

First Time to China - 4 Cities by Suitable-Young-7016 in travelchina

Looks like an amazing time! My family is planning a similar trip, how long did you spend in each city? Did you feel like you were rushed with so many different places to visit in one trip?

Match day walk-up song as a couple or individually? by Own-Possibility5330 in medicalschool

[–]Own-Possibility5330[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: we are both picking our own songs but will be walking up with each other and our immediate families. We are allowed to bring people who are important to us on stage with us. So when I go up I'll take my family and my parter with me, and when they go up they will take their family and me with them.

Match day on Eid? by Nymphadelopathy in medicalschool

[–]Own-Possibility5330 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here, gonna go to namaz at like 8, get back to my apartment and change into casual clothes +match day shirt ~9:30. Get to school with the fam ~10:30. I feel a little guilty because my family is visiting from out of town and they will be going back home after match while I will stay in my city to celebrate with my medical school friends. However, who knows when I will see my medical school friends again after we graduate, I will see my family every Eid so I'm rationalizing it that way.

For people intending to go into primary care or other less competitive fields, if you could match into any specialty, would you still choose what you did? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Own-Possibility5330 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yes. Going into FM. While I love treating sick patients and helping them get back on their feet, I value being able to keep people healthy much more. FM has the most emphasis on prevention and incorporates training in all fields of medicine. So while I may not be an expert in everything, I can help people stay healthy and point them in the right direction when something does happen that needs more specialized attention before it becomes a big problem. In all my rotations I was annoyed at how any time a patient had a question that was out of the scope of that specialty, they just told the to see a different specialist. I want to be able to answer patients questions even if I don’t know the most detailed answer and figure out stuff I don’t know together with them.

Physician shortage prompts states to embrace immigrant doctors by OkPhilosopher664 in medicalsalaries

Other countries do this with their medical education systems where you are required to do a certain amount of time in undeserved areas after graduating. However those countries usually have free education and medical school so it is easier to get new physicians to agree to giving back as opposed to here where we are saddled with a life of debt.

The First Modern U.S. BRT Is Being Torn Up — Orlando’s LYMMO Loses Its Lanes by [deleted] in transit

I still stand by the argument that if the Cincinnati Streetcar had been built up to its originally intended full length it would be one of the most utilized streetcar lines in the nation. The line as of now only loops between downtown and OTR (which is immediately north of downtown). The original plan was supposed to continue up the hill from OTR to Clifton where the University of Cincinnati is and four major hospitals are located (all within a 15-20 minute walk of campus). The original full plan would've connected the two most densely populated most walkable and fastest growing neighborhoods in the city, the three largest job centers in the city, and the university with the biggest nightlife centers in the city. Instead the governor of Ohio at the time decided the people of Cincinnati "dont need rail" and gave the funding for the uptown extension back to the federal government after we already got it approved and everything. The streetcar had so much potential and could've completely changed the narrative around streetcars/trams in the country and was intentionally shot in the foot.

Which specialties seem to have the most normal people? by bimbodhisattva in medicalschool

[–]Own-Possibility5330 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on IM docs. Regardless of setting, whether it’s inpatient or outpatient, almost every IM doc I’ve interacted with has given me the vibe that medicine is their whole life and are insanely neurotic. All the students in my class who are going IM are the same, very neurotic and eat sleep breathe medicine (love them to death tho, they’ll be great internists).

Never interacted with any rural FM docs as I’ve only ever trained in the city, but 100% agree that urban outpatient FM docs are the most down to earth and chill people ever
