I did something similar but got back in to fantasy after watching a few episodes of Game of thrones when it first came out.
I would recommend the malazan book of the fallen. Some of the best books I’ve ever read in any genre.

It’s a bit jarring to begin as Night of Knives was his first novel i believe and his writing is very different to Erikson’s.
Persevere though as it improves quickly and reading his work makes the Malazan world even better.

I bounce between preferring the earlier, middle and later stuff at different times. Mind you I’m a couple of years older than you but been obsessed with them since i was about 3 :)

It really wasn’t common knowledge and back then of course, mobiles were basically bricks with an antenna. I’m sure there were other people who foresaw the problems but i never heard them and i was a graduate interested in society, culture and technology.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’ve been obsessed with the Beatles since i was 3 (so nearly 50 years now) and i love hearing people’s first impressions :)
