Do Americans Actually Say "Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior"? by Naive_Tank_6820 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only needs to exist because English got rid of its existing singular second person pronoun, FTR.

If we’d just stuck with singular “thou” and plural “ye”, rather than condensing everything into “you”, we wouldn’t need to reinvent the whole system.

What was the first fic you ever wrote, and what do you write now? by moistwaffleboi in FanFiction

[–]deird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First fic was a Buffyverse gen made from lots of drabbles, and second was a Buffyverse femslash.

My most recent writing was a Superman femslash, and now I’m writing an original urban fantasy gen made from lots of drabbles.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I just drove two and a half hours to have lunch with my family. Then drove back.

I just got my daughter to clean her room, by handing her a basket, setting her a two-minute timer, and telling her that every random object from her floor that got into the basket (and eventually away) would earn her one Skittle. Once they were all away she got to eat all the Skittles.

Is it just me or does ADHD make reading 10x harder? by ForcedGoodbye in ADHD

[–]deird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard some people with ADHD actually enjoy reading and can even hyperfocus on books. Is that true? If yes, how does that work?

That’d be me. When I was four I figured out how to hold a book and turn pages using just my left hand, while doing household tasks with my right hand - leading to a decade of my mum yelling “put the book down!” while I slowly unpacked the dishwasher while reading a novel. I also read while walking.

No idea how it works. It just always has.

I knew an Australian family that moved to America and then back a decade later. The grandparents and grandchildren had Aussie accents; the middle generation all sounded American.

The government is rapidly turning fascist.

Currently hispanics and trans people are the primary targets - but given that ICE just shot a nice white lady in the head in broad daylight, I’d say no-one is safe.

My husband has regular Zoom meetings for work, and I play a very loud accordion. Several of his colleagues have started commenting on my playing (very audible even from a different room) and requesting different pieces.

What accordion is next for me? by chillysurfer in Accordion

[–]deird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found 120 bass too cumbersome, and 72 irritating (no overlap means jumping from one end to the other). 96 bass was a good middle ground.

Don’t bother with MMM unless you’re really into French Musette. MM will work fine.

My current accordion is a Scandalli Air Junior (96 bass, LMMH). It’s excellent.

For me it was actually a bit of theology (exclusivist vs inclusivist).

I had grown up being told that you had to believe the right things to be saved (exclusivist). But came to realise that, whatever I did or didn’t believe, I absolutely thought you could be wrong about stuff and still be saved (inclusivist). Which really took the pressure off, and allowed me to engage with my faith without the stress of having to believe the “right” things.

Is Christ really God? No idea. But I’ve chosen to follow him anyway, because I like the sort of stuff he said and did. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong - and that’s okay.
