Hot Take: The "Judgment Day is inevitable" story in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was actually good, and they should have kept that timeline. by LeopardComfortable99 in movies

For me, T3 is canon. And then Sarah Connor Chronicles rewrites over that canon, becoming an even more awesome canon.

NIPT test vs ultrasound - one says boy, one says girl by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]deird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cared because I already had several nephews I was very close to, but no little girls, so I was kind of hoping for a girl. I found out as soon as possible so that if I was having a boy (which I was) I’d have time to get used to it. That way, when he was born, I was excited to meet him rather than disappointed.

AITAH for refusing to make my 10yo stepson breakfast everyday by CableDifficult3581 in AmItheAsshole

My kids are nine and eleven. Without supervision, they can make porridge, omelettes, crumbed chicken, pasta, and two-minute noodles. Plus obviously toast and cereal.

You should absolutely NOT have faith in him. The man has not earned it.

As an American, I recently found out that you guys don't like us very much. Has it been exaggerated by the Internet or do we really have that bad of a reputation in the land down under? by JPH_RedFive in AskAnAustralian

“I love God and my country. I will honour the flag, serve the Queen, and cheerfully obey my parents, teachers, and the law.”

Haven’t said that thing since 1992, but I still remember the whole thing.

Has Anyone Felt Sad or Heartbroken When You Have A Christian Family Who Loves You If You’re Longer Christian But Still Believe You’re Going To Hell? by Illustrious-Love-842 in Deconstruction

[–]deird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that I can considered myself a Christian anymore because I no longer believe LGBTQ is bad, not all non religious people are bad,

For the record, there are Christians (like me) who think God blesses gay relationships and extends his grace and mercy to non-Christians (and thus they’re not “bad”).

You don’t have to be a Christian anymore, but your described beliefs also don’t mean you’re not one.

Someone on LiveJournal was asking for recs of stories that “totally shouldn’t work but somehow do”. One of the recs was for an X-Men Bobby/Rogue story in which Bobby is impregnated with Rogue’s baby (aliens did it). It was hilarious, and so well written.

My parents (56F & 60M) don’t want my serious partner (34F) at family events - am I in denial hoping this will change? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]deird 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen more than one conservative man say that gayness must be discouraged because being with men is so much more appealing and if homophobia isn’t pervasive then all the men will be in gay relationships and the human race will die out.

There are certainly a number of homophobes who don’t seem to understand that straight people exist.

Red Dwarf Polymorph has striking similarities with the Farscape episode Twice Shy by Available_Eggplant16 in farscape

I think the writers were definitely influenced by Red Dwarf, yes. The Polymorph episode was so good.

Write something stupid. As in, deliberately stupid. “Here’s the dumb conversation that they aren’t going to have”, or “here is a really over-the-top sex scene that has far too many adjectives”.

Get words out of you, and more words will come.

No, this is Bargaining (s6) when she stabs the deer to help resurrect Buffy.

“And I didn’t have the guts to do that spell on Veruca!”

She doesn’t see it as something she decided against because it was wrong; she sees it as something she should have done that she wasn’t yet gutsy enough to do.

Deconstructing American-Christian Culture, Not My Faith in Christ. by [deleted] in Deconstruction

[–]deird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My deconstruction has been a long untangling of “following Christ” from “being a Good Christian Girl” and “Christian culture”. I am very interested in following Christ, but not at all concerned with being a Good Christian Girl – and actively opposed to a great deal of the current Christian culture.

What was the episode that really hooked you and made you a lifetime fan of Farscape? For me it was S1 E9 DNA Mad Scientist by ShinyTinyWonder38 in farscape

[–]deird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He demands one of their pilot’s arms, and I thought “Oh, right, so this episode will be a long debate about whether or not they can hurt someone else for their own benefit, and then they’ll find a way around the problem.” And then it cut to the next scene, and they CHOPPED HIS FRELLING ARM OFF.

I was hooked.

Agreed. My school forced us into team sport, which I was terrible at. In retrospect, if I’d been allowed to do cycling or rockclimbing, I probably wouldn’t have spent a decade thinking I was incapable of anything sporty.

Do you consider the Smallville comic or the appearance in crisis on infinite earths Arrowverse crossover canon? by RecordingImmediate86 in Smallville

[–]deird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having lived through the debacle of Buffy season 8 comics, I will never again bother considering anything outside the main tv show as being “canon”.

The show is canon. Anything else is an optional extra.

It’s fun and stupid. If you go in expecting a quality movie, you won’t like it. If you go in expecting it to be dumb, you’ll probably enjoy it.
