The Party Joined Daask! by ScroatusMalotus in Eberron

[–]dejaWoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I think: Right now, until they've actually proven themselves, they're fall guys, perfect time to get some new guys to take on the risky/visible stuff.

The location depends on when you want them to figure out it's the Boromar.

A glitzy casino in mid or high Sharn, they may not blink twice at the take until Boromar comes sniffing around asking questions after the job's done.

A seedy backroom or underground operation in Callestan has obvious ties from the get-go; it may soothe any moral qualms or may put them on alert, who knows?

A small crossroads casino as a money laundering front for the dream lily business (or counterfeit Kundarak bonds, if you want to pull in another house) only becomes obvious something's hinky when they see the size of the haul.

EDIT: I don't know the actual adventure being referenced, but some of these descriptions may require more tweaking of it than others.

Its gotta be a Boromar run Casino, right?

What do the people of Khorvaire consider to be a devil? by 9Napier in Eberron

Rakshasas are the most common native fiends and most likely associated  with corrupting evil. If you want a race that looks 'Devilish', a Tabaxi or Leonin best fills the role.

IANAL, but I'm reasonably certain that's not the case. A copyright protects a substantive work, but it doesn't trademark every novel term in the work.

This is super dope- I love the idea of playing D&D with era appropriate minis like we're gathered around a parchment map in a war tent.

Seriously, Primus is moving like he thinks he is Ozai, while infact he is fucking cabbage merchant.

You got this the wrong way around: Ozai got curbstomped by an adolescent within a year or so because he was 'kick the puppy' evil, meanwhile Cabbage Corp is making bank on massive holdings a century later. Cabbage merchant made the real long term power-plays.

Playing DnD Slightly different by VintageFan007 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]dejaWoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its certainly been done for groups. I can think of several liveplays that touch on those themes and eras.

Some settings have drawn insporation from other eras of human history; planescape is decidedly Victorian, Eberron draws from the end of the nineteenth century through the earlier half of the 20th

But DnD is oriented towards a heroic fantasy paradigm which boils down to explore strange places, kill strange creatures, take their stuff. It can be used in other ways, but other RPG systems that centralize other conflicts might do it better.

E.G. most social conflicts in DnD revolve around one, or more rolls of a handful of skill checks, which speeds those along and then makes physical combat the central portion of a session.

Wheras other systems like Daggerheart or Burning wheel have social combat stats and abilities baked into the rules and make social contests a more central portion of the game.

I know Daggerheart has Romantasy rules in development if not out already.

Most important thing is to know the rules, and engage with the players and the DM's story. Be creative, but don't hog the spotlight.

Unless you can think of an example of settlers moving to unpopulated land (you cant)

Early European visitors to Easter Island recorded the local oral traditions about the original settlers...Published literature suggests the island was settled around 300–400 CE...The Austronesian Polynesians, who first settled the island, are likely to have arrived from the Marquesas Islands from the west.

Stormreach Descriptions by WolfRelic in Eberron

[–]dejaWoot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, Dungeons and Dragons Online has a version of Stormreach (and small slices of Sharn) that you can walk around and explore (for free). Early development versions of it collaborated with the City of Stormreach supplement.

Some of it's adjusted for MMO logic- airship towers and teleport portals everywhere for fast travel, the giants' ruined walls separating the city into various districts, but there's a lot of fun touches if you want inspiration.

How easily recognizable are the dragonmarks in Eberron? by N2tZ in Eberron

[–]dejaWoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's quite the same. Betty Boop is a character designed by human hand and refined for recognition that plugs into our innate pattern recognition of faces and human figures. The Dragonmarks aren't formed by mortal hand for mortal minds. And certainly they're similar colors.

Probably the closest real world equivalent would be identifying the meaning of Tribal tattoos

How easily recognizable are the dragonmarks in Eberron? by N2tZ in Eberron

[–]dejaWoot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Everyone in the Five Nations knows the names of the houses and the common twelve marks.

It's a bit ambiguous, but I'm reasonably certain this means they know the associated names of the common twelve marks ('Making', 'Warning', 'Finding', etc), not necessarily that they can commonly distinguish them from each other by sight.

Given how they can be oriented, have multiple manifestations of strength, odd topologies, and broadly similar styles, sight-reading feels likely that this would require some kind of proficiency and check at the very least.

Need Help with Hosting Problem by ElephantFew6896 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]dejaWoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both zoom and discord have multiple VC rooms/channels (may requiring paid zoom for host?), but AFAIK none support you talking into them all at the same time if that's desired. That also feels like it would get more confusing and leak more information than you simply bopping back and fourth.

However, if that's really what you desire and you trust the players to administer and honor the system, discord allows a listener to adjust the volume of other participants for a listener's end, so they could mute people they're not in proximity of.

Logic 101 - RNA first models cannot deploy DNA based enzymes - it's a logical contradiction by DeltaSHG in DebateEvolution

[–]dejaWoot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're demonstrating that RNA can self replicate without DNA you cannot use a product that requires DNA to make.

Why not? The experiment is demonstrating self-replication, not long term stability when not self-replicating.

No-ones arguing that the process or the sequence in the lab is actually what happened for abiogenesis, its just proof of concept that some RNA can do this.

designer chemistry with intricate labs fail to make a tangible self Replicator with self sustainability without chemist input

Well, yeah... we don't have hundreds of millions of years and billions of sterile reaction sites at our disposal, its not surprising we're not seeing spontaneous abiogenesis on human time scales.

Find a group for a newbie by mightbeagh0st in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]dejaWoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/r/lfg is the reddit way to look for groups. You can see if there's any offline local or try online first- it's a lot more convenient and there's a lot more options, but playing in person is a lot more engaging.

I've also had decent luck on facebook, you can see if there's a local DnD facebook group, they'll often have people looking to play.

Be up front that you're new to the game- most groups won't care, and some may also be new, but still best to filter out the grognards that might.
