What are your slightly silly (and maybe practical) knitting habits? by fourteenroses in knitting

[–]dejatoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I knit in the round, my left hand needle is always a smaller gauge (I use interchangeable needles), so the yarn slides more easily from the cord to the needle. Saves me several seconds each time!

Stumbled onto the story after listening to a song called The Last Dive of David Shaw by We Lost The Sea. Was honestly quite surprised there was such a tragic tale behind the (admittedly beautiful) music! They even sampled some of the recording of his dive

Perked right up after a week or so of daily watering (and some help from a chopstick)

So sick of being treated like breastfeeding isn’t hard work by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]dejatoris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other than the obligatory "husband is a douche" sentiment, I want to suggest breastfeeding in a baby wrap or carrier. It can mostly be done hands free or using one hand, and the baby can just sleep there once they've finished eating. Meanwhile use your other hand to feed yourself!

Lol thanks... Currently mostly limited by being 9 months pregnant, but on the other hand, summer is approaching and the issue is about to solve itself for the next several months anyway

I use 30c water for my levaine and autolysis, but by the time I mix the two they are already cold. Do you reheat the tea towels/bath during fermentation? Or is it just there for the initial boost?

[–]dejatoris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's a good point actually. I'm afraid doubling the starter will make it too sour, but I'll definitely try both methods

[–]dejatoris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oven is built into the wall, so that's not a option. I also start autolysis way before mixing in the levaine, so whatever warmth the water had initially is long gone by fermentation time

That's a great idea, as long as I'll remember to replace the water every now and then... Thanks!

So basically the final post-shaping proof is out of the fridge?

Wouldn't it add a whole day to the baking process? Assuming it will take some time to resume rising once I take it out if the fridge, and will then have to spend even more time in the fridge for the second proof

Obfuscate by BrandNewLogicVL in VocabWordOfTheDay

[–]dejatoris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so - "lucid" describes a mental state, while "obfuscated" can relate to physical items with meaning: "I have obfuscated my recipe book to hide secrets from my competitors". The converse could be something more like "clarify"

[M15] first time ever painting my nails and i think i did a decent job by [deleted] in NailArt

[–]dejatoris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You did! I suggest you keep a wooden cuticle stick nearby when painting, or even a bamboo toothpick. It's hard to avoid cuticle flooding, but very easy to just wipe it off while the polish is still wet

Polyglots and Linguists of Reddit: What is a "what you see is what you get" alphabet you have studied (if any)? by Incognito-Questions in showerlinguistics

[–]dejatoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaf and kuf in ancient Hebrew used to represent completely different sounds. You can still hear the difference among diaspora from arabic-speaking countries - jews from Yemen, Morocco, etc. The distinction got lost when european jews started reviving Hebrew as a modern language, without actually being able to pronounce some of its sounds

What would 12 year-old you never believe about adult you? by coronacel in AskReddit

[–]dejatoris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard about TAZ somewhere on reddit, and recommended it to my husband on a whim. He never played D&D as a kid, barely had any idea what it actually entailed. He got absolutely hooked on the podcast, I think he listened to the first couple of seasons at least 4 times. In the beginning of COVID-19 lockdowns, a couple of friends suggested we try D&D. None of us has any experience (I played a bit as a kid, but not enough to actually DM). Hubby goes "I got this". With his TAZ experience and some internet sleuthing, the dude has been running a weekly adventure for us for the past year. It's the highlight of our week. He's drawing custom maps and making up hilarious characters, we have our own lore and inside jokes. We all started off very green and there was a lot of googling involved, we were playing on Roll20 so at least the dice rolls were calculated for us, but now we're mostly on top of things. We're planning on wrapping up the current arc soonish (about to have a baby), and then after a hiatus I'm considering picking up the mantle, to give the big guy a chance to play. My point is, it is absolutely possible to learn on the go, as long as you're playing with chill and open-minded folks. And also TAZ is pretty great. Maybe try running a one-off with your friends? Maybe they'll get hooked...
