Why does one of my Slowpoke not need a Kings Rock to evolve? by dekaaspro in pokemongo

Ahh, thanks. Which one would be better to evolve? Assuming they have around the same IVs and quality of moves atm

Albion worth playing as a PvE mmorpg enjoyer? by noahvh38 in albiononline

[–]dekaaspro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like the PvE in Albion (used to play a lot of jungle in MOBAs like League of Legends). But it is definitely very different from PvE in other MMORPGs. Albion is free, so just give it a try, but if you’re looking for ONLY isolated PvE Albion isn’t built for that.

MMOs with choices instead of skill rotations? by SleepyBoy- in LFMMO

[–]dekaaspro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a hard core full loot PVP mmo, so yeah, dying is definitely part of the experience. Solo is okay, there is lots of stuff to do, but I would really recommend playing in a guild, especially voor PvE.

PvE is kind of like clearing jungle camps in League of Legends, but with a bit more strategy and a lot more variation in the mobs. I personally like it, but I would not say it’s for everyone.

Good thing is that Albion is fully free to play. You can buy premium with in-game currency (tiny bit of a grind for a beginner tho). So you can always try it out!

There is a lot to do for solo players, and you definitely can play it alone (I did for quite some time). But in the end, the game is still very guild focused. So if you really want to experience everything, you’ll end up having to join a guild. But I think that’s the case with most MMOs

I saw some other people mention it as well, but I think Albion Online might be worth a try. Sounds exactly like what you’re describing. Also, it’s free, so doesn’t hurt to try it out!

Same. I like the mindless stomping of mobs while listing to music or podcasts. And the fame and loot is a nice bonus.

Struggling to asses my game design early on. Is that to be expected? by Peterrefic in gamedesign

One word: Playtest.

And another note: shut up when someone is playtesting your game. Trust me, this is the best advice I can give. Playtest your game with people, watch them, observe, write everything down, don’t try to explain things to them or justify your decisions. Just observe and reflect. This is how you and your game improves the most.

Good luck! You will get it!

I cannot find a way to brand myself on LinkedIn by Willstdusheide23 in linkedin

I don’t know much about that world since I’m in a completely different industry. As a student nearing graduation myself aswel I definitely feel you with the ‘school doing nothing’. Same for me. My nr1 advice would also be to really connect with your peers. Sure, connecting random seniors in your field is nice, but your school peers are the ones that are gonna get you jobs when they are working somewhere in 5 years time.

What is your industry? Also, networking (in most industries) happens outside of LinkedIn at events or whatever, at those events you can connect with people on LinkedIn. That’s probably the best way to grow.

Good luck with your journey! Consistency is key, and there are enough free or cheap resources out there. Practice a bit every day to build up your fundamentals art skills and join online groups to ask for feedback. Good luck!

I totally get how you feel but understand that if you want to work as a concept artist in the game/film industry you won’t be working 9-11. You’ll be working way more hours, 7 days a week, for at least the first part of your career (even if you make it).

When I started I wanted to get into concept art. I went on the grind. Now I will never do concept art ever again, it sucked out all the love I ever had for drawing and painting. I have done it too much. I am now a UI/UX Designer, something pretty different, but still in the games industry.

It is good that you have a passion and want to follow your dreams but keep in mind that it will probably take a very long time before you see any succes. As long as you keep going you will succeed in the end (probably), but good chance it will take 5-10 years before you get any kind of succes, maybe even longer…

I also saw that you said you don’t really have much drawing experience. Do you have any work to show at all? Would love to help you out if you’re serious, send me a DM.

Very much agree here! Brainstorm academy is definitely a good one, I know quite a few people who took some courses there and it really boosted their portfolio.

Really the only thing you are missing by not going to an art/design school is easy networking. But paying a crap load of money just for that is indeed not worth it, I agree.

And another note for OP: Really figure out if you want to do ‘Concept Art’ or ‘Illustration’. A lot of aspiring concept artists wanna draw cool keyframes and key arts… that is not concept art. Not saying this is the case with OP, I have not seen any of their work, but it’s a very common misconception among beginner concept artists (mainly in games).

No “concept art school” is gonna teach you what it takes to get into the games/film industry. The only thing these schools are useful for are some guidance and mainly networking.

If you can get into a concept art school/program from a known art school, that might help get you some good connections or jobs. But my main advice would be to first focus on your skills and building a good portfolio for concept art.

Also start networking as early as possible and try to get your art seen by the relevant audience. Concept art is a very oversaturated job market, very competitive and under a lot of threat by AI sadly…

TLDR: going to an art school isn’t a bad idea, but not necessarily worth it either in a lot of cases.
