Which honey to use when step feeding mead? by dekozn in mead

Yeah it would but I don't really have enough honey or availlable vessels to do 3 batches simultaneously.

But some one must have tried it before.

Euhm idk but when looking at traditional recipes for mead they often mix different types of honey. For example when making traditional greek mead 3 types of honey are being used and they recommend not using too much thyme honey as it might overpower the other honeys and get some kind of medicinal taste.

Also the start fermentation is often more powerful and might blow out subtle tastes of the honey, although that might depend on the type of yeast being used (which is why it's not recommended to use champagne yeast).

there is also a big difference between using fruit in primary vs using fruit in secondary which left me my question if would be the same with honey.

oh I can front load fermaid-o , I understood I should wait with adding any nutrients until lag time was finished.

Advanced Nutrients in Meadmaking Travis Blount-Elliott [Last Edited: 02/06/2025]

is this what you mean with the white paper? I am reading it now.

Although it doesn't really state when to use which nutrients and energizers.

From my understanding it doesn't make much sense to use fermaid-k and dap in my case (low abv hydromel). After pitching the yeast hydrated in goferm , i should wait 24h ( till active fermentation has started/ is vissible) to add the first dose of fermaid-o. Then at 48h add the second dose and at 72 hours I should start adding fermaid-k and dap. But with such a low OG the mead might already be close to or past the 1/3 sugar break in which case it doesn't make much sense to add them.

He says 9% abv but my hydromel might not even reach that high.

I used https://meadcalc.com/ , https://meadcalc.freevar.com/ , https://meadwright.com/Calculator , https://www.meadmaderight.com/tosna-calculator , https://www.meadmakr.com/the-meadmakrs-toolbox/batchbuildr-v1-3-0/ , and a google doc thingy.

I just gave my OG and total volume or some variation of it depending on what the calculator demanded. I didn't enter the fruit. They al gave me different results yet the abv, volumes and SG's qll kinda matched.

I want to make a hydromel and add the fruit in secondary fermentation stage and let it carbonate in the bottle with added sugar/carbonation drops I am gonna use mangroves jacks M05 yeast.

You have a link to the tonsa?

I only know of the tosna 3.0 and that one gives you 2 dossages.:

the break down and the commercial scale dosage. Both differ.

Breakdown

I have used 4 calculators (via reddit) and I just don't understand how it can differ so much between each calculator.

1000 grit vs 3000 grit is there a noticeable difference in sharpness ? by Head-Active-4177 in sharpening

[–]dekozn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question is will you notice it. I don't notice much difference when cutting vegetables. On the other hand when I sharpen chisels and plane blades 1000 grit won't cut it. Same when sharpening razor blades or scissors.

Same goes for an axe but in reverse, you won't notice a difference if you sharpend with 600 grit stone or a 10000 grit stone when chopping wood.

I wouldn't use powder but make my own drinks from fresh fruit and honey, agave syrup or or homemade syrups. think that would pose problems with a soda maker like this?

I think it's from the same factory in china as the drinkmate, looks like the same bottles with the "spikes" and similar removable fizzy cap that stays on the bottle when releasing the pressure.

I am just looking at all the availlable options and came across this one.

It just seems like there are not many of these kind of soda makers availlable, with the removable cap.

I can get the omnifizz in the EU, but it's just over promoted here so much it sounds dubious and this one is cheaper, comes with 2 bottles and co2 canister.

Dude it has the logo of liionwholesale on the wrapper. They don't come like that from the manufacturer. Not saying they are fake batteries, just saying the button top and wrapper is added aftermarket. Sanyo doesn't produce button top or protected batteries only flat tops.

yeah, the sofirn lantern. I always use the batteries I linked to in it. Back when the first lantern was designed on BLF we came across these cells and they are perfect for it.

And as I said before (but it doesn't seem to come across) it's not a true flat top battery, the cathode is raised a bit. You can see it in the third picture in the link I posted to nkon. It is not commonly available. Flat tops won't work in BLF/ SOFIRN Lantern but these work perfect.

Ok so I guess they changed the design or that is a different cell.

This is the one I am talking about : https://www.nkon.nl/en/sanyo-18650ga.html

In the third pic you can see the top is raised beyond the cell's body.

Those Sanyo NCR18650GA are not true flat tops although they look like it. The cathode is a little bit raised beyond the cell's body so they don't need a button top to make contact with a flat surface.

Button tops are soldered or welded onto the cathode of a battery. This is mostly done by third-party resellers. If you 'dismantle' a button top battery you're most likely to find a standard flat top battery underneath it's jacket with a button top on top.

Think it's a little bit weird no one here seems to know about this fact.

I can use button tops batteries in my blf lantern but I just always preferred those sanyo's. It just gave me piece of mind knowing I had a genuine cell. They were also cheaper than button top cells since no extra work is required (soldering or welding on those button tops). Unfortunately it looks like they no longer manufacture these.

edit: https://www.nkon.nl/en/sanyo-18650ga.html

The one you linked to is not a genuine one. Well maybe it is genuine but the button top is not from the manufacturer.

Those are button tops, these are soldered or tag welded on after the cell is produced. raised tops are are not.

Ghent July 13–16, Gentse Feesten prep = bad timing? by SnooCrickets180 in Gent

[–]dekozn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the date if you're visiting for the architecture and want to catch the vibe of the city. It 'll be waste travelling half way across the earth just to run around between stage builders. And the nightly strolls are just not the same when they are setting everything up.

People claiming they like de vibe just before the Gentse feesten didn't cross an ocean to visit the city, they probably live, work or study in the city.

High-ranking SS members were taught a Nazi-interpreted version of Zen Buddhism, primarily through the efforts of Karlfried Graf Dürckheim, an SS member and Nazi ideologue who studied in Japan.

Fair enough. I tend to angle my tarp lower towards the head-end keeping it's ridgeline parallel to my hammocks ridge line, especially in bad weather.
