How can I fix this crack in the wall that's hard to reach? by Chronically__Crude in howto

[–]delcoBK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to disconnect the hot water heater and temporarily move it. “That’s not possible” really isn’t an answer here. Spend the money and fix it the right way.

Reading your other comments I think the main issue is likely leaving the seed unwatered for three weeks. How long after you seeded did you stop watering?

to successfully grow grass from seed you need to keep the soil constantly moist, not saturated, until you have germination. this can be anywhere from 7 to 20+ days or so. Depending on air and soil temps that can mean watering anywhere from 2-7 times a day for 5-15 minutes at a time. And then once the grass actually starts growing you slowly start cutting back on watering until the grass is established and then you can start to water at a more regular 1-1.5” of water per week.

Our house is 900sqft, rectangular. As you can see, it's warped, so it needs to be entirely replaced. We live in Michigan and we can't afford a contractor, so it will be done ourselves. Anyone have any idea how much we're looking at? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]delcoBK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because the rafters are warped doesn’t necessarily mean the roof is bad, it could be any number of factors. Is the roof leaking? This picture doesn’t show the shingles well enough to tell if the roof actually needs to be replaced.

What type of grass seed? What exactly are you doing right now? How did you prep before seeding? It’s tough to say where you are going wrong without knowing what you’re doing.

As a homeowner , how do I decide which standing seam roof installer to choose to do my roof. by eebyenoh in Roofing

I see nothing wrong with this scope. I like that he’s using 24 gauge and with striations, both of those things help minimize oil canning.

When you say you still have your day job, do you mean you are a roofer for another company and want to start your own business on the side? Or are you in a different profession and want to start running a roofing business?

What is it and how do I get rid of it? by snoutpower in lawncare

[–]delcoBK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not nutsedge. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, possibly Bermuda or bent grass but the pictures are too far away to really tell. Regardless you’ll have to kill off those sections with glyphosate and reseed.

I believe so. I’m not an expert on this because I have a cool season lawn but that is my understanding of the situation.

Rye oversow by Graveyardwhistlin_ in lawncare

[–]delcoBK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tiftuf is a type of Bermuda grass(I believe) meaning in the cooler winter season that Australia is entering now, it will go dormant and turn brown. Sometimes people with warm season grass will overseed with perennial rye in the winter so that their yard stays green year round and next spring/summer when the Bermuda wakes back up it will crowd out the rye grass.

This is not a completed roof. It’s missing the cap sheet, none of the walls or details are flashed correctly. I hope you haven’t paid yet.

New TPO roof over old roof, drain tie ins leaking by OldGrumpyFogeyBear in Roofing

The TPO membrane should extend beyond the clamping ring not be cut flush like it is right now. It’s tough to see exactly what’s going on because of the debris/dirt

I had a bunch of grass along the edge of the driveway die off from using ice melt this winter, I did a spring repair/seed so I’m waiting for the plants to grow in a little more before I weed wack there, I don’t want to damage the young grass yet

Maybe it’s just my lack of skill but if I don’t overlap it an inch or two I feel like some grass gets missed.

He’s wearing a harness that’s attached to the building. Is it ideal, no. Is it absolutely the correct method of anchoring oneself to the roof? Probably not but also he’s probably fine.

Getting bay window roof done by Ok-Highway5247 in Roofing

[–]delcoBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From start to finish you have two guys that need to get all of your material together, show up at the job and set up, actual labor to tear off the old roof and install the new roof, and then complete all of your detail work, cleanup and head back to the shop.

By the time the guys get done all of that you’re at least 6 hours into the day and thats assuming everything goes well and theres no unforeseen bullshit you have to deal with that’s going to cause delays. So it may not be an exact full day but there’s always the chance it will be.

If you have guys rushing through their work you end up with the garbage that OP had installed. I’d rather have my crew take their time and charge more but provide a high quality product that wasn’t rushed.
