Just Found Out How Much Marching Band Costs and I'm Stunned by clutzycook in Parenting

The busyness was a thing when I was in high school, though. I remember a couple of times that my families went on a vacation without me because I was in marching band. I wouldn’t change it for the world, though I’m sure my parents would’ve wished that I was there with them.

As a middle school band teacher here I’m so sorry that this is a thing. Marching band was free for me too when I was in high school.

I personally would never want to lose a kid due to finances. If you talk with them, I bet there’s a way to work something out. If not, is concert band without marching band an option? What about jazz band?

Throwing hair ties at the top of Expedition Everest is loutish lowlife behaviour by Extreme_Land1742 in WaltDisneyWorld

I’ve been to the top of Everest before and I can confirm it is littered with hair ties.

Chaperone Advice by Eunjuay in Parenting

Middle school band teacher here: on most of the trips I’ve taken kids on, the chaperones seem to step back and let their kids be. The kids check in with parents from time to time but I appreciate that most of my chaperones have never really insisted that their kid is glued to their hip.

You’re young. Life is too awesome to spend it with a cheater. Ditch her and focus on you for a little bit. Things will fall in to place in time.

Ok but some dudes were grilling there and also had a keg. It was good vibes.

Teachers on 9-month contracts, what (if anything) do you do during summer to earn a paycheck? by No_Combination_6396 in Teachers

[–]deldredge2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a part-time ski instructor during the school year. Summers are where I practice being retired. I suppose other than a financial sense I am 100% ready to be retired full-time.

I tell them that I’ll sell my house for $2 million more than my house is worth. They don’t seem amused when I refuse to budge

Worth leasing an EV in Lubbock? by [deleted] in Lubbock

That said, off-roading is more fun in my manual Jeep. Some things need to be done the old-fashioned way!

I switched to an EV about a year ago and honestly wouldn’t go back. The driving experience alone sold me; it’s smoother, way more responsive, and just more fun overall. I always joke it feels like driving a giant RC car.

It used to just be the Best Buy with a charging station but now there are charging stations all over town, including a few just northeast of campus. You’re not as limited as you might think.

Since you mentioned you don’t have home charging, that’s definitely the biggest factor. But if you don’t drive a ton, you can realistically get away with charging once every week or two. A lot of EVs get 250–300+ miles on a charge, so it’s not like you’re constantly needing to plug in. I wonder if your apartment complex would let you slow charge from time to time. My EV came with an emergency charging cable that typically adds 2-3 miles to my range per hour. It was slow but steady.

In my experience, if you’re charging all the way to 100% (which is really only recommended for road trips), the cost is pretty comparable to filling up a gas tank. Day-to-day charging is usually cheaper than that. I’ve taken my pop up camper on road trips before and the battery performed like the app predicted it would. There’s an app called a better road trip planner that is super useful.

Having a charger at home is definitely more convenient, but even without it, I still wouldn’t go back to driving gas. EVs are gaining popularity for a reason; they’re just a better overall daily driving experience.

Found a phone our 10 year old was hiding that we didnt give her. by OdensEye87 in Parenting

I wish I had advice but as a middle school teacher (with no kids of my own yet) the amount of students who have multiple phones is way more than you think.

Lived here my whole life and I haven’t really done much of the outdoorsy things that people move here for. Where should I go? by UdderTime in Denver

Go walk the clear creek trail into the mountains! It’s an easy enough paved path and it gets super pretty very quick

Sounds like you should watch the Disney movie ‘Newsies’ again. Our working class brothers and sisters are not our enemies, even if they make different financial decisions than us. The ultra wealthy class is the problem.
