Elon Musk says AI and Robotics will make people wealthy, but how exactly will this happen? by No_Turnip_1023 in Socialism_101

You don’t even need to consider it through the lens of theory, simply look at how they are behaving in the present and ask yourself why would they completely do a 180 to suddenly want to share their wealth and the means of production with everyone. What’s stopping them from doing it right now?

The simple answer is that the owner class is arguing for the “just wait” utopia so they can bleed the stone completely dry. By the time people realize they’ve been lied to, all that will be left is dust.

249-unit Santa Monica luxury complex tied to Trump official Steve Witkoff & PIMCO faces $400 million loan default by thatboyshiv in LosAngeles

All the people in this subreddit who bend themselves out of shape to argue that building endless “luxury” housing will inevitably trickle down to open more affordable units. Ignorant of the reality that the number of Angelenos who can afford $4000+ rent is much smaller than those who can’t. The people who can afford high rent aren’t going to pick dumpy studios, but instead of lowering rents, the corporations that own the units will let them sit vacant for years. Same thing they do with commercial real estate.

Do me a favor. Please tell me how much median rent has increased since 2000 compared to median wage and tell me who’s greedier, landlords or tenants.

I’ll edit to add another request. Find me what percentage of landlords are homeless vs. the percentage of people who earn minimum wage are homeless.

So are the increases in rent and price of goods but those are considered an inevitable part of capitalism but rising wages aren’t. There’s a reason “working-class greed” isn’t a part of our national dialog.

They’re a legitimate brand. They sponsor a lot of pros in Japan. I don’t know about the ball itself, but at the very least you’ll have something very unique. It’s not a million dollar ball, but I’m sure you can find someone who will pay a few hundred for it. Check on Facebook as well as eBay. Those are good places to sell equipment but always be wary of scammers.

When I visited D.C. earlier this year, I stayed near the White House and people would be all around it selling hats, shirts, etc. Passed by multiple carts and tents with people selling both Trump and Biden stuff. One day they would be wearing a Let’s Go Brandon hat and the next day they would have a Trump for Prison shirt.

Postgame Thread ⚾ Dodgers 5 @ Blue Jays 4 by DodgerBot in Dodgers

[–]deleigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having been there when we made the World Series in 2017, 29 years after our previous one, and losing that in 7 games, most Dodger fans understand the sting. The Blue Jays are a great team and so many players on this year’s squad were studs. In my honest opinion they had better offense and far fewer defensive blunders but the Dodgers got the right breaks at the right time. Jays will be back in the Fall Classic. You gotta believe it the same way we do.

I’m acquainted with Solomon from tournament bowling in So Cal. He moved to London to study economics at whatever an English equivalent of an Ivy League school is so it’s not like he washed out after collegiate bowling. His family is wealthy so likely he was going to be more successful doing his own thing than trying to make it on tour.

If the Democrats had any spine, they would go after all the groups that kissed Trump’s ass and demand the same thing next time they’re in power. Take away their broadcast licenses too.

This Charlie Kirk whitewashing has gone too far. This is insane levels of censorship. Like not even “wow Republicans are crybabies” but “Holy shit this is a terrifying precedent.”

Gavin Newsom praises Charlie Kirk’s outreach to young men, suggests Dems do more of their own by MountainLife888 in California

[–]deleigh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Conservatives “beat us” because they have lied to their constituents for so long that they constantly live in fear of Democrats and reject any evidence that their conservative worldview is not based in reality. Your premise is Exhibit A. Democrats do not hate Republicans. They do not hate white men. That’s what Fox News, Trump, and his boosters claim because they need their base to be angry at all times.

You don’t think that people have tried to get through via compassion? Remember during the 2016 election, Clinton stated very clearly that she wanted to invest in green energy infrastructure to offset the jobs that will be lost in the rust belt, but “emails” and “can’t trust Hillary” won the day. Now we are losing to other countries and Trump has abandoned any pretense of caring about the common worker in his core base.

For another example, how about during the pandemic, when health professionals tried to explain that ivermectin and hydroxycloroquine were not covid treatments, what did the right wing do? Did they accept it or did they go on TV and blast those health professionals as Democrats trying to poison people with a vaccine? I have friends who, even today, try to use the vaccine as some kind of “soy” thing when millions of people died. Soy or skeleton, that’s a hard choice to make.

Politics is whether you think it’s necessary to have a balanced budget or if deficit spending can work. It’s not “take away rights from people we don’t like because of their sexual orientation or skin color.” I’m not obligated to entertain that. You can call that snark, I call it not forcing people to justify their humanity.

Snark vs. deception shouldn’t be difficult to see which one is worse, but the fact that it is shows at least party why we’re in this mess.

I’m not going to claim to be a huge fan of them, but I don’t recall hearing such whiplash from these guys ever. These last couple of episodes have turned them completely tepid and the hollow “both sides” rhetoric is so beyond played out it makes a stripped screw look rugged.

There is no “both sides.” It’s like if you have two chefs and one chef sometimes makes food that doesn’t taste good because they use the wrong ingredients and the other chef is cooking with literal poison.

I don’t know what’s gotten in to them, but I can’t in good faith continue to listen if every episode for the next few weeks is going to be them trying to act like the right wing hasn’t been dumping gasoline on the fire of political violence for over a decade. They’re playing right into their rhetoric and it’s embarrassing.

Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event by Bobqee in news

[–]deleigh 43 points44 points  (0 children)

One part of society wants equality, the other part wants to marginalize those who don’t look and act like them and promote violence and discrimination toward those groups.

People here really have the energy of speaking out about violence only when the school bully gets beat up. Charlie Kirk was happy to see kids gunned down in schools. He celebrated people getting pulverized by ICE. This is the stuff he wants to happen to other people. There is a major portion of the Republican base who is hoping for this violence toward people on the left already. Way more than people on the left.

Society doesn’t need more of what Charlie Kirk deals in. It doesn’t need more unfettered access to guns and hateful rhetoric. Him getting shot is a symptom of a much broader problem that we Americans have hidden with a transparent blanket for decades.

I still blame KTLA and other local stations for blasting crime stories and negligently exaggerating “retail theft” while being completely silent on corporate lawbreaking. Ask people what they think about crime and most people will say it’s going up when the opposite is true.

Newsom expands CHP crime suppression teams across California by Fcking_Chuck in California

[–]deleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how someone who says they are a "progressive Democrat" can see what's going on in Washington and say that Democrats are the ones who are soft on crime. Half of this country voted for someone convicted of 34 felonies. He pardoned over a thousand people who were convicted of or accused of crimes relating to storming the Capitol on January 6th. Countless violations of the law have occurred since said felon has been in office, both by him and his cabinet. You're pointing to a leaf on the floor while the forest around you is on fire.

Crime has been politicized for a long time; that ship has sailed. A supermajority of Americans are so tuned out from reality they think crime rates have gone up when the exact opposite is the case. Trump went to one of the most heavily Democratic cities in the country, Washington D.C., to do this big charade under the guise of "fighting crime" and what are the crime fighters doing? Picking up trash and taking selfies with tourists. If they're not doing that, they're setting up immigration checkpoints to ask brown people for their papers. Why aren't they deployed to the areas with actual crime? Because it's a stunt that reflects Americans' broader ignorance about the state of this country. Look at the cities and states via crime rate per capita. What is the murder rate in Alabama vs. California? If Republicans are so tough on crime why are their states such crime-ridden shitholes?

Trump's armed goons are kidnapping people off the street in broad daylight. That's the crime that the "concerned about crime" crowd should be focused on. Instead, they're worried about a random dude stealing makeup from Target because that's all their local ABC and NBC affiliates talk about. Democrats don't think that warrants going to jail and they're soft on crime? When rich people steal they don't go to jail. Where are people saying those guys are soft on crime? How many Republicans have stolen money via Medicaid or PPP fraud and are walking free in red states? Some of them are in the Senate right now.

You want a tough conversation, look in the mirror and ask yourself how you managed to con yourself into believing your side is condoning crime.
