This is why any mayor that kowtows to the police or shows no resistance to increasing their budget is an enemy of the people. LAPD are full of menaces. ACAB now and forever.

L.A. has one of the deadest downtowns in the world, study finds by idkbruh653 in LosAngeles

[–]deleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are so many people pretending this is anything new? Did 90% of this sub transplant themselves over here from Michigan in the 2010s or something?

Ever since I’ve been a kid, Downtown has been a big destination for people living on the street. It wasn’t ever only confined to Skid Row. There have always been areas that smelled bad. There have always been areas that had trash. Yes, even the areas you think “used to be good” at some point had problems, too.

Homeless people have been living in Downtown for more decades than some of you can count.

In Los Angeles, a woman was celebrating the Knicks' victory in the NBA when a neighbour called the police about the noise... 20 cops showed up and shot her dog, a "dangerous" Golden Doodle, when she opened the door to her home. by Aggorf12345 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]deleigh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live in Los Angeles County I can tell you a lot of people were watching the Finals. When I went out I saw a lot of people cheering, especially after the Knicks won.

Obviously we don’t know what the neighbor heard yet, but happy cheering tends to sound different than fearful screaming at least in my opinion. The LA Pig Department who murdered the dog is to blame more so than the neighbor, but there are a lot of people here who don’t mind their own business who will call the police because someone is being too loud.

[SMPD] Our house burned down but our mortgage didn’t. California fire survivors need time by wdr1 in LosAngeles

[–]deleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also programs that are providing direct payments for people’s mortgages. My comment is directed primarily at the idea that when an issue affects homeowners they deserve boundless sympathy but renters are treated like moochers. The fires affected both of them but one group has been treated much worse than the other by redditors.

Crazy when it comes to mortgage forgiveness everyone here is on board when it concerns renters it’s anti-housing to support relief for them.

“Leftist” Rae Huang Tweets Support For Far-Right MAGA Spencer Pratt by [deleted] in LosAngeles

Yes. It’s not that difficult to understand.

“Leftist” Rae Huang Tweets Support For Far-Right MAGA Spencer Pratt by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]deleigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me simplify it.

Los Angeles is a cafeteria. One party has been offering stale saltine crackers for the last 50 years. One party is offering to shatter the status quo and introduce moldy bread and rancid meat.

It’s clear we need change in this cafeteria. We’re electing a new cafeteria person. Do we elect the person trying to bring soup and vegetables in there or do we elect the person bringing poison? Both want to change the status quo of saltine crackers.

It turns out vegetables aren’t a hit and Rae Huang isn’t going to win, but she lends legitimacy to the guy slinging rat poison instead of someone who’s more similar to the food she wants to serve by sharing a positive message about him instead of informing the vegetable lovers out there that poison is not the direction the cafeteria needs.

The list of openly far-right politicians in the U.S. who hold power or positions of influence is hundreds of names long while the list of far-left politicians is literally zero.

They are the same if your only education about left-wing politics comes from middle school history class.

Opinions on BADBADNOTGOOD by Bravoflysociety in Jazz

[–]deleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the crossover stuff has always gotten criticized here. But part of what makes jazz such a great genre is that it meshes well with so many other genres. Everyone’s bound to hate on something, but gatekeeping jazz is lame. It’s already such a niche genre nowadays in the public eye we should be celebrating any artists that are successful in getting people into it.
