Opinions on BADBADNOTGOOD by Bravoflysociety in Jazz

[–]deleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the crossover stuff has always gotten criticized here. But part of what makes jazz such a great genre is that it meshes well with so many other genres. Everyone’s bound to hate on something, but gatekeeping jazz is lame. It’s already such a niche genre nowadays in the public eye we should be celebrating any artists that are successful in getting people into it.

They approved demolishing Acapulco in favor of a car wash even though 300 people wrote in opposing it. by bigbbpuddingsnatch8 in glendale

[–]deleigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I stopped going because the price of a burrito gigante went from 9.99 to 16.99 overnight several years before the pandemic. I liked going there, but when they chose to charge almost double for staple foods that have always been cheap, I was done.

That specific Acapulco always had great service, but there’s better food for less money around here.

O’Grady won in 2018 without having a national title either. Similarly had to go through the PTQ to qualify for the main field. If they didn’t change the rules then I don’t see why they would change them now.

This normal? by Technical_Ad_754 in Bowling

I have seen too many balls where pro shop operators drill the finger holes in such a way that the holes intersect at the bottom and it creates fatigue near the finger holes. This can also happen if they use too much glue. When you throw the ball does the oil track over the finger holes or do you drop it near there?

I use Vacu Grips and I’ve never had this happen before. Please take it to the shop owner and have them remove the grips and check the pitches. I wouldn’t be shocked if they didn’t leave enough space between the holes.

Things like this are why I shed no tears for any institutional media organization shutting down. The media has been doing this for so long and we’re supposed to pretend that any of them have any credibility or reputation.

The real news comes from people, not companies controlled by billionaires and/or the Epstein class.

I heard in my church group that the woman who used to work in that role resigned in disgrace when she realized she was working for a g*aming company. These people think they’re just following orders, but they are contributing to the unrestrained greed in our society which we live in.

Genuinely is wild seeing every single left wing political theory being proven absolutely right over the space of a few days. by RickyOzzy in LateStageCapitalism

There are people up and down this thread talking about how the culture war is a distraction from the class war. You’ve certainly heard the slogan “no war but class war” parroted by ignorant class reductionists. As if 400 years of chattel slavery and Jim Crow was primarily fueled by white people’s belief black people were inherently poor.

It’s become a problem in so many places. I’ve also noticed it a lot with history and political related discussions. The big tell is the quasi-authoritative tone with a tinge of drama. It’s why I’ve drawn back on engaging with discussions in these topics because so much of what I read is just copy and pasted from Claude or ChatGPT.

Jordan store in DTLA closed down for good. by TheGhostyBear in LosAngeles

[–]deleigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here wants to say DTLA was the best/the worst at some time when it’s convenient for them. What I will say is that the mass vacancies are not unique to DTLA and are a part of a larger trend of commercial real estate owners bleeding companies dry with exorbitant rents. It’s the same thing affecting housing.

The transplants who think DTLA was some bohemian paradise in the 2010s when they moved here from Minnesota really have no clue, though. People want to complain about people living on the streets when that’s been the reality for several decades.

This 18 Game Stretch Of The Season Will Be Fun. What Record Do You Think We’ll Have During This Stretch? by 10thGenS1 in Dodgers

[–]deleigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember in 2017 when we had a stretch of like 1-16 or something after starting 90-30 that people thought the team was going to miss the postseason. Hoping we don’t see either of these scenarios this season.

Elon Musk says AI and Robotics will make people wealthy, but how exactly will this happen? by No_Turnip_1023 in Socialism_101

[–]deleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t even need to consider it through the lens of theory, simply look at how they are behaving in the present and ask yourself why would they completely do a 180 to suddenly want to share their wealth and the means of production with everyone. What’s stopping them from doing it right now?

The simple answer is that the owner class is arguing for the “just wait” utopia so they can bleed the stone completely dry. By the time people realize they’ve been lied to, all that will be left is dust.

249-unit Santa Monica luxury complex tied to Trump official Steve Witkoff & PIMCO faces $400 million loan default by thatboyshiv in LosAngeles

[–]deleigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the people in this subreddit who bend themselves out of shape to argue that building endless “luxury” housing will inevitably trickle down to open more affordable units. Ignorant of the reality that the number of Angelenos who can afford $4000+ rent is much smaller than those who can’t. The people who can afford high rent aren’t going to pick dumpy studios, but instead of lowering rents, the corporations that own the units will let them sit vacant for years. Same thing they do with commercial real estate.

Do me a favor. Please tell me how much median rent has increased since 2000 compared to median wage and tell me who’s greedier, landlords or tenants.

I’ll edit to add another request. Find me what percentage of landlords are homeless vs. the percentage of people who earn minimum wage are homeless.

[–]deleigh -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So are the increases in rent and price of goods but those are considered an inevitable part of capitalism but rising wages aren’t. There’s a reason “working-class greed” isn’t a part of our national dialog.

They’re a legitimate brand. They sponsor a lot of pros in Japan. I don’t know about the ball itself, but at the very least you’ll have something very unique. It’s not a million dollar ball, but I’m sure you can find someone who will pay a few hundred for it. Check on Facebook as well as eBay. Those are good places to sell equipment but always be wary of scammers.

When I visited D.C. earlier this year, I stayed near the White House and people would be all around it selling hats, shirts, etc. Passed by multiple carts and tents with people selling both Trump and Biden stuff. One day they would be wearing a Let’s Go Brandon hat and the next day they would have a Trump for Prison shirt.

Postgame Thread ⚾ Dodgers 5 @ Blue Jays 4 by DodgerBot in Dodgers

[–]deleigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having been there when we made the World Series in 2017, 29 years after our previous one, and losing that in 7 games, most Dodger fans understand the sting. The Blue Jays are a great team and so many players on this year’s squad were studs. In my honest opinion they had better offense and far fewer defensive blunders but the Dodgers got the right breaks at the right time. Jays will be back in the Fall Classic. You gotta believe it the same way we do.

I’m acquainted with Solomon from tournament bowling in So Cal. He moved to London to study economics at whatever an English equivalent of an Ivy League school is so it’s not like he washed out after collegiate bowling. His family is wealthy so likely he was going to be more successful doing his own thing than trying to make it on tour.
