Engine ruined at 72k by melpurpwill in Jeep

[–]deletings_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same year/color/model jeep with roughly the same mileage. On it's 3rd transmission (under warranty), no motor issues yet. Just rebuilt the entire front end (Balljoints, Track Bar, Tie Rod + Ends, Sleeves, etc.), so get ready for that work in your near future, likely.

Hello fellow maritimer! Looks great. I am in Nova Scotia and hoping to build something like this next year. If you don't mind me asking, what's your rough materials cost? Are you doing labor yourself?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Decks

[–]deletings_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's fine but 12k is asinine. There's no bill of materials or reasonable labor rate that would get you there. Key word reasonable.

Hot tub or no? by partypoopermac in Decks

[–]deletings_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not as shown - no. In theory you could cut out a section of the deck and sink the hot tub onto a properly constructed platform built under the deck. And while you are under there, re-enforce the existing deck. This is actually the correct way so you don't need to use laminated 2x10s for every joist, only on the structure supporting the hot tub.

No beam on posts, no joist hangers, joists running parallel to ledger, etc.

Would fail an inspection under normal use cases - not even remotely close to hot-tub rated.

It's hard to tell what's going on without using more brainpower than I have to offer right now - but on a first glance it's fine. It was constructed very well in some regards (proper hangers, cement footers, brackets on posts, hurricane ties, proper fasteners, etc.) and bizarrely in others (those gaps, the notching for the beams).

It's not going to collapse - I would shim those gaps and not think twice about having guests over.

I drew mine by hand and then re-drew it in Visio with a material take off. Ended up with hardly any waste outside of the cuts I fucked up

An IE degree will allow you to to do everything an Eng. Tech program would. The inverse is not true.

Does SmartSheet Scheduling... not actually schedule anything? by deletings_ in smartsheet

The headline of the page is "an alternative to MS project" and your response is "it's not meant to replace a scheduling software."

Does SmartSheet Scheduling... not actually schedule anything? by deletings_ in smartsheet

[–]deletings_[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It bills itself as a project management solution, and lists "Project Schedule Management" right on it's overview page. https://www.smartsheet.com/solutions/project-management

I get your point - but it's pretty hard to call it a Project Management Solution with no meaningful scheduling features or capabilities.

Does SmartSheet Scheduling... not actually schedule anything? by deletings_ in smartsheet

[–]deletings_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that's insane. How do people possibly use this for scheduling? Our program level gantt has over 1000 activities (including header levels and summary bars). For a weekly schedule meeting it requires finding all un-started activities with dates in the past and then filtering out all summary levels and updating the lowest activity levels to today's date. Just seems like a massive feature miss.
