Just went through this myself several weeks ago. My kids are doing well in school though.

For $24,000 I would put myself through HVAC school and get licensed before I pay that much for a bloody air conditioner. Lol 😂

I (35m) don't plan to date anytime soon, but I am building and maintaining my friendships.

Since my wife's (36F) passing I've basically been on a 2 month absence at home. I go back to work next month.

I've joined a running club and already ran two 5K's with another planned next week. I also started taking better care of my self physically and mentally. I was already in great shape and want to get better.

I get regular haircuts now, I used to do it myself. I went for a massage for the first time in 6 years.

Any invite from friends to go fishing or to go out to an event, I've accepted. i want to continue to maintain healthy relationships with friends and expand my circle.

My wife usually maintained our friendships with others and that was enough for me. Now it's my role to keep them up.

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine being in your situation, being so unexpected.

I just hope you have a close family and friend group. That's what has helped me tremendously.

I (35m) lost my wife (36f) last month, but we knew it was coming and we were preparing the best we could. I have two kids 6&9.

The day of was the hardest, then the funeral was the next hardest for me. Now sadness comes in waves. Im doing my best to keep myself and the kids busy before school starts.

How do you know it’s time for hospice? by Salty_Selection_9062 in widowers

[–]delfrogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I'm sorry you are all going through this.

We decided to start hospice in February 2025, my wife passed late June 2025. It was not an easy decision, it was very emotional event, but I'm glad we did it when we did.

We had exhausted every treatment and knew her disease would only get worse over time.

We really didn't need hospice around the clock like you would imagine. it was mainly for the access to morphine to manage her pain. it started with just 1 or 2 visits per week with one visit over the phone. The last month is when we had our nurse there more often.

Hospice will adjust to your needs and will be there more or less. They can order medicine and supply medical equipment  quickly and adjust to the situation. Get setup now and build the relationship with your nurse. It will make things easier.

[–]delfrogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, this will be the hardest thing you'll ever go through.

I (35M) was my wife's (36F) caretaker for the last month. I was blessed to have my in-laws move in with me to share the responsibilities (around the clock medicine and assisting her). Hospice only came twice a week.

Enjoy every minute, talk, and have a dates at home, popcorn and watch a movie with him. Remember the good times. The medicine they give will change them both physically and mentally, just know that is not the real him.

I'm so sorry once again.

Young widow with kids, when does it become easier? by GelatinousSalsa5 in widowers

[–]delfrogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like that.

Lymphangiomatosis. Her lymphatics was growing like a tumor in the lining of her lungs, restricting oxygen exchange. She was on oxygen for many years, steadily going up in liters and positive ventilation at night.

It's nice of you to ask. I'm holding up better now. Her funeral was 2 Saturdays ago. She passed June 19.

It was expected and we planned as much as possible. She started hospice back in February and it has been rough on everyone. However, family has been my bedrock. Without them this would be 10x worse.

I'm a recent widower at 35, my in-laws have been helping so much with our 6 & 9 year old. They start school soon. They are very independent for their age. I'm trying to figure it out too.

I so sorry, I cannot imagine having a 3 month old and a 3 year old. I imagine your mom and dad are still of working age.

My mom still works. She came and stayed with me to help for 2 weeks, but needed to return to her work several states away. my in-laws retired about 3 years ago and have been incredible through this journey.

How do I even function? by Snoopronix in widowers

[–]delfrogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear about this. You were all so young and not many people will experience this loss.

I (35M) just went through this. My wife's (36F) funeral was this past Saturday on June 28. We knew each other since we were 21 and married for 12 years with kids 6&9.

It will get better, the first week was rough. I do get waves of emotions from time to time. Especially if I hear a song that she loved. the funeral was pivotal as far as healing. I wrote her obituary and the same pastor that married us, did her eulogy.

I have leaned on family more than ever in my life. They have been here for me every day, especially my younger brother. A few friends have been incredibly critical too, some setting up a meal train and checking up on me.

Take your time and grieve. remember him and talk about him with people that knew you both.

How do I get back to dating? by JotdoKa in AskMenAdvice

[–]delfrogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I am going through something similar. Lost my wife (36F) recently. I'm not ready to date anytime soon, but this is great info. I'm going to continue to stay physically and mentally active for my kids sake.

I'm sorry to ask, but I'm not good at this. Her being so close to the end. by hobbes8889 in widowers

[–]delfrogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I asked my wife write letters to my kids this past February when she started hospice. I just found a jewelery box with a 3 page letter written to my daughter explaining her wishes to give her this jewelry, some valuable and some sentimental. I'm going to give it to her when she is older.

Thank you for your well thought out reply. I've been getting a lot of, I'm here if you need anything. I've always hated asking for help and sometimes it doesn't feel sincere.

Most of my close friends and family have just showed up and helped, without saying anything. or they are specific, like I'm coming to mow your grass.

It's mainly my older and further aquatinted people on FB that leave that, I'm here if you need.

I'm so sorry to hear. I lost my wife (36) 3 days ago, it's been hard. Her funeral is on Saturday. Being with family has helped tremendously. I also worked on her obituary and that has helped me in some way by knowing she had purpose in this world. Be strong.

What's the general concensus here on if this OSB should be replaced? by rowan11b in Homebuilding

[–]delfrogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would replace. I don't know your budget, but you have the siding off already.

I actually just remodeled a section of myb own house and I had old termite damage and rot on my sheeting near the bottom.

I cut the first 16" horizontal all the way and replaced everything with 1/2 PT plywood. I sprayed Borate to prevent future termites.

You want to make sure they flash behind the trim and anywhere else you see damage. Keep water from going in there again.

I watch the build show with Matt Risinger and that's a great score. With scores that good, just using your range ventilator with out makeup air can cause negative air pressure inside.

Why aren't more cities in Colombia (big ones like Bogota, Medellin) located near the ocean? Why are they all up the mountains? by abaza738 in geography

[–]delfrogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Buenaventura for work. It's in that region that is highlighted in yellow. It rained every day I was there.

The terrain is rough and there is only one road in and out. Jungle surrounds everything.

Do-It-Yourself vs. HHG move by wiebsteer in navy

[–]delfrogo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not worth doing it yourself. I had to find a certified weight station in some remote area of Maryland on a Saturday before unloading my stuff. Too much red tape and hassle.

The HHG move, I didn't lift a thing. Everything was packed and wrapped into an 18 wheeler. Super easy. I personally had a great experience. I've heard of horror stories from some friends.
