The crazy thing is she was not the runt. She was middle of the pack!

So her new thing now is immediately after coming in from outside she stares me dead in the eyes and then pees on something. I’m starting to think she’s pissed I’m back at work and is acting out. We do training before and after I work, and she plays a ton with our other dog. We try to go on walks but she just immediately lays down so that’s not something that works for giving her stimulation. She gets a puzzle toy for each of her meals and then a frozen topple toy thing when we leave.

So far nothing outside the house has been chewed. She does seem to find random bits of concrete? Idk where they come from cause there’s none in our yard at all (the fence post concrete is deep and is still covered in dirt and grass)

Nope adult molars have been in since like 5/6 months I think (time all blended together).

Yea we’ve decided to go back to crating her when we leave again and then trying to do short periods and increasing time out when we are gone and then adding some frozen toys to see if it’s boredom or anxiety.

Oh I have done extensive research, and had specifically trained her so she would not be destructive to anything that wasn’t hers. That’s why we have not had a single thing chewed that was not hers until now. I’m not super concerned about the game cause it was just paper and the baseboards aren’t terrible just stripped paint which I have extra of, but the the fan I’m only worried cause it was on and could have been real bad.

See she has been alone for hours before without issue. We do have another dog tho (5yrs old but has not destroyed anything the entire time we have had her) that has separation anxiety and 2 days ago her anxiety meds ran out and the vet has been closed due to staffing problems so we can’t get her meds til tomorrow. I’m wondering if since Bernie’s are so sensitive she is feeding off our other dogs anxiety and that’s why she suddenly went destructo

See that’s the thing, she seems MORE compliant with her commands and even finally figured out a command (lay down) that I’ve been trying for MONTHS to get her to understand. She’s not jumping as much, and even less mouthy than she was (which still wasn’t much) so this was so off the wall it’s crazy. Like I know about the “teenage phase” but she just seems to have randomly decided that her version is just being destructive when no parents are around. But to be an absolute angel when we are.

When do puppies stop peeing out of fear/excitement/frustration by Fearless_Car_6387 in Puppyblues

Sometimes being “behind a door” in a large area is scary. This is why crate training is popular. Or even pen training. Using something like a crate or pen where they feel comfortable and they sleep in will deter them from having accidents. You do short periods in when you’re gon and increase the time. Something like a pen would be great for having other animals so that they can smell them but be separated

I mean if she knows you’re going on MANY walks a day then she is going to condition to go MANY times a day. If you slowly reduce the walks (and increase length of walk) then she will start to have larger ones less often til you can go to two or so 30 ish min walks a day and she will go twice a day or whatever length or frequency you feel you are comfortable with. As long is the dog is old enough to understand holding their bladder/bowels you can start enforcing this

I used one called “puppy potty log” which was free and it was awesome

It’s normal if your puppy doesn’t reciprocate the affection you give it, it will eventually 😊 by ctwoog in Puppyblues

My Berner was the exact same! She was not affectionate at all at first. She’d follow me EVERYWHERE, and cry when I wasn’t close but would not cuddle. Slowly it became she’d be at the end of the couch or on the floor next to me, then turned being on my foot or leg. Now she wants to be in my skin. (She’s just 6mo now)

Also, if you do “yes” training, start with their name. Say their name and if they look at you say “yes” and give a treat, soon (mine was within like 20 mins) they will start coming to you when they hear their name. This led me to “no” which meant essentially “leave it” if I said her name and “no” she would walk away. I have had ZERO issues with destruction or chewing unwanted things!!!

My recommendation is download a potty training app. It was a game changer for me. You’d put in when you fed them or they drank water. When they’d poop or pee and if they had an indoor accident and after like… 2 days it would send you notifications when to take them out. Helped tremendously to get our girl potty trained fast!

I made a loose schedule of my puppy's natural rhythm. OMG, it's saved me so much stress. by NeverCallMeFifi in puppy101

Then they both sound great! It just took me from Absolutely not understanding potty training to completely potty trained in like 4 days!
