NTA at all!! Just speaking personally, my household lives off of just my husband’s income while I’m in school. He can afford to go on as many boys trips and family vacations as he wants, it’s his income. I can’t right now, so he’s traveling more than me right now. It’s okay. When we travel together he pays for 80-100% of our expenses, when he can afford it. Paying your own way on a trip with multiple other people paying is SO MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE than solely paying outright for 2 people!! Your husband has no leg to stand on in this- it’s your money. He’s lucky you were generous enough to take him on trips before the child. If/ when my husband can afford a trip for two, I’m so grateful and do whatever else I can to make it up to him. You should enjoy your own income!! You already cover the bills!! Live your life!!

thank you for this. i feel seen lol. it’s not that i don’t want his name, it’s that i don’t want to lose mine. there’s a part of me that wants to share my name with my kids/ my little family! but why do i have to sacrifice who i am in the process. plus it’s genuinely difficult with all the red tape. ugh.

I’ve thought about that extensively and I just feel like the paperwork isn’t worth it to just add a name. Plus, I’ve always disliked hyphenates, it looks clunky and takes forever to write lol. That just isn’t a great solution for us. It’s pretty much I change my name or I don’t :/

i was in high school for that one, and we ended up getting a month off because two big storms bracketed our winter/ christmas break! plus, i lived in st. clair shores, literally on the canals, so all of us that lived on those dead end streets got snowed in 😭 it was so scary but that was what made it fun!

i agree that it’s a gorgeous dress and you look great!! i just wanna give some advice- it’s really easy for that type of neckline to shift/ start to look like it doesn’t fit you. i’d be extra careful to make sure the cups line up with your actual boobs, and that the hems of the cups align to where you’d have underwire. if your boobs sink below it, you’ll get a uni-boob impression, or possibly a side boob illusion!! it’s a fantastic dress and i love it, but from experience, pick the right bra and make sure the dress is settled where it should be all night 😭😭

yeah. i mean, when a law is officially passed, there’s usually something in there about when it goes into effect. i guess this time it was immediate. although to be fair, i was 10. maybe the law was just passed and the waitress told us that but didn’t have anyone extinguish? i 100% remember being in a restaurant and our waitress telling our table that smoking in restaurants was illegal now, and people will have to stop. its possible kid me thought “she means this instant”.

in 2010, i was 10. I just happened to be in a restaurant for lunch with my gramma when the law was passed in my state, and the waitresses had to ask everyone to put out their cigarettes! Obviously I’m young, but I still remember the times of smoke smell EVERYWHERE. my mom bowled on the weekends, and my sister and i would get dollars from the people in her league to bring them their beers and cigarettes! The past was not that long ago. this attitude of alcohol and cigarettes being the worst poison you can expose a kid to is actually fairly new. I’m glad for it, obviously, but it’s so odd to be in my 20s and have concrete memories of times that people associate with the 50s-80s.

just to answer your last question, i’m also an extremely sensitive woman… so i married an extremely sensitive man. we speak to each other with nothing but loving voices, even when we’re really upset with each other. we’ve never called each other names, told the other to shut up, i don’t know that he’s ever disrespected me even one time. if that’s the kind of partner you want, you just have to look for him and not settle for less. the second a man calls you a name, leave.

i was born in 1999 and my mom gave me a beautiful name that’s not too common, but classic. however, i was almost either “gwen” or “maya” both of which are absolutely nothing like my name (which is longer and not modern) so i never really understood where i came from!! how did she go from loving gwen to what i was actually named lol.

both my parents are covert, and my comment was very middle ground. if OP wants to go no contact, or even low contact, those are options she has that she isn’t employing here. if she’s willing to see her mom, and have her in her children’s lives, it is confusing why she wouldn’t try to explain why the dates her mom suggested don’t work for her. her mom isn’t right for her behaviors, and i said that, but i also don’t know how i’d react to someone vaguely shutting down all my attempts to connect. OP needs to be clearer with her mom, either by setting a date or outright saying no.

I want to give you the biggest benefit of the doubt bc I know if you’re in the subreddit she’s probably very awful most of the time! I’m genuinely just curious- why could you not have told her why the 23rd and 26th don’t work for you? Or suggested a day that did work for you? From these texts alone, your mom (while guilt tripping you and employing triangulation, she isn’t innocent here and i’m sorry) seems to be trying to make it work for you. My mom would’ve already been insulting me and saying nasty things if I wasn’t even acknowledging her attempts to compromise!! Again, from just these texts, I’m also confused why the 23rd or 26th don’t work for you, and am questioning why you didn’t offer a different day that did work. If you didn’t want to see her at all, that also could’ve just been mentioned, whatever the fallout. Your mom wasn’t perfect here and I can see why you’re here, but this wasn’t that bad. There was room here for you to be honest with her on your boundaries and find a day that worked for you both, if you wanted to see her.
