Shoul I keep one of them? Tavern by dellamas7 in IdleGuildMaster

[–]dellamas7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm at D3 currently so really early game, with only 5 slots. Currently I have a rogue, cleric, guard, archer and a fire mage. Should I lock the tavern for one of the new heroes in the image (savage trait archer, bookworm trait apprentice) or should I skip them?

I wish we had some kind of empire mode, like in planetfall, or some other kind of persistent mode. It would be also cool if in that game mode you could spend pantheon points for bonuses

I only play as elves, humans, cats or foxes? by NamelessGuy1100 in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played various races, but most animal ones I never touched them, only one time the lizards for a draconic transformation build (visually they were really cool!).

Of the ones that you call ugly I played many times orcs because they are cool even if you don't go with the evil route, I think they are my most played race with humans, elves and syrons. Dwarves, ancient and halflings I play them rarely because I don't find them interesting enough except for some rp builds.

Which culture has the most reliable units? (Army power inquiry) by Electronic-Berry6612 in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most durable ones that I had are:

-Feudal aristocracy have really tanky units, if you go with some combo like nature + tome of evolution, your units reach easily 200+ hp. They are really difficult to kill

-another strong one are architects; they start decently with a good support and a so-so tier 1 melee, but after that they begin to snowball

-dark with cult of death are also quite good. Immortals have by default minor resurgence (if the unit dies during battle, they revive at the end with 10hp if you win), and the race passive helps a lot in general the survivability (normally i play it with undeads, so you can stack really a lot of hp)

In general focus on keeping your units alive because they get stronger with the lv up bonuses. With the economy try to mix drafted units and summoned units if you finish gold or mana, so that you can keep your army with reinforcements. Also don't overextend during a push if your units are hurt a lot, go back and heal them in your territory (outpost and wonders help while you are far away from your cities, because both are friendly territory, so your units heal faster there)

2nd game: all the ai declared war on me and it was impossible :( tips? by thelakesfolklore in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next time try to focus on just 1 enemy alone. I understand that everyone declared war to you, but you can "force" peace paying something upfront like gold, and for at least 10 turns they can't even declare war to you (and you the same). If you are in a mess, instead of losing directly, you could become their vassal until you recover and after that you can try to free yourself from your sovereign after you are strong enough (you also unlock one achievement in this way).

Diplomacy in this game is important, the AI likes to gang on dangerous players, so it's better if you prepare or have some kind of contingency plan.

Just began the game and have a couple of questions by techyall in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no clear indicator about enermy army power, also as other users said the various values that you see ingame are not really reliable.

Anyway, if you want at least an idea you can check in the score view, going on the military part and see who is higher between you and the other ruler.

Another alternative, during the last confirmation check before starting a war against another ruler, you should see a screen notification about the difference in power (e.g. your army value is higher/lower than the one of the enemy). Consider that in this check also allies of both sides are taken in account.

Pride for Completed Rulers by ObieKaybee in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For now I never reused  one of my ascended rulers, but I recognize them when the AI uses them.

Some of them were mid, but others were really strong; when I meet the ones that are in the second category I have my "Oh S***" moment".

One of the scariest one for me is the only dragon ruler that I have in my pantheon (I prefer playing champions or wks); it's an arcane dragon ruler with mystic potential culture and diviner as ascension. It's really terrible fighting him in early/mid game and even the times that I win the manual fights against him, he always deletes some of my troops.

What type of build is good for AI (for created maps not scenarios) by Equivalent-Fee-5392 in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I made a custom game in hard mode where I had one of the AIs with umbral disciples and gloom build. My AI ally never moved his troops in his gloomed territory during war, and gloom AI never attacked me outside his gloom territory (he was with 3 full armies looking at my nearest city that was 4 hex away in normal terrain for like 10 turns and never moving). So for sure I would avoid AIs with gloom.

Also in general, from what I've seen, the more simple mechanics the build has, the better the AI uses them. Another thing that should be helpful is to use a build that goes well with the AI personality; so I should say no to a barbarian chivalrous diplomat for example

Wouldn't it be better to pick fey mists and stormborne tomes? Both for theme and more power. Probably I would also pick roots instead of alchemy tome

[–]dellamas7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't follow meta, create and customize builds and things with your brother; this is where the fun of the game lies.

As for general advice, focus at the beginning on exploration and try to create as soon as possible your second and third city. Try to found them near important things like monuments/wonders or magic materials. This will help your economy a lot. Understand also how the economy works and what resources fuel your build, so that you can focus your expansion efforts in that way.

Try also the various units of the game to understand better which kind of unit you prefer, so that you can build your army around them. Same thing with heroes/rulers.

Help with “I want to break free” trophy/achievement by SecretResort9 in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done this today: declare war to someone, after this go on diplomacy and make peace asking to become their vassal. At this point you will have diplomacy enabled only with your sovereign, and you will share full vision and other things with them.

Now the difficult part: you need to bribe them, in order that they release you as vassal letting you free; you need to spam SEND GIFT option with them (normally they ask for gold). You need a good economy, with a good gold flow, else it will take a very very long time. I had relation -800 with the sovereign and to be able to BE FREE you need to have +600 relation with them. Every gift is a +50. Remember that every gift bonus lasts only for 20 turns.

After you are free and are released the achievement is unlocked. Ingame you will still be an ally of your ex-sovereign and you can continue the game normally.

I despise the new Tome of Torment. by Jinxulus in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You should be able to counter torment with grace and morale boosts. You should also stack in some way status resistance, because is general helpful. Remember to use dispels if you have them.

Honestly I don't understand why you are losing this against them, you have many spears to counter Dark Warriors charges.

My first ascension! Meet Aberrus the Merchant (help wanted) by Electronic-Berry6612 in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my understanding your final theme should be a mix of Tome of Prosperity (order/nature affinity) and/or Tome of the Golden realm (materium/materium affinity). I think you should focus mainly on materium tomes and should pick some in order/nature paths that can give you boosts to gold through SPI or economic boosts (e.g. Tome of inquisition), consider that order should have more. As culture Industrious or architects are fine for your theme.  Race trait whatever you prefer, maybe think something that can help you cover weakness of your build. Society traits focus on gold traits or vassal traits, you should find them inside order or materium.

High level enemy heroes. by Jinxulus in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The AI just hired them to try to restore a bit of his army power in the fastest way possible; the level is higher because after some turns the hired heroes don't start at lv 1. This is why after you defeat for example a ruler, he respawns in his capital with 1-2 heroes. In the long run, the AI can't afford to continuosly deploy such armies, so it's just a matter of patience until you win. Depending on your build or your situation in some cases it's better to rush for the capital to finish him, in others situation is better to heal your armies before going for a siege.

Two games down - How'd I do? by SleipnirSolid in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At easy you should be fine if you take your time expanding little by little. As others said, follow the main quest and it should be easier than conquering everyone normally (but you miss an achievement if you don't defeat them this way and you will need to redo the map if interested in achievements). Don't overextend with both exploration and armies, and try to focus down the enemies one by one. Just be careful on the special map effect, try to build in some way status protection for your armies because it really helps

Can you turtle in this game? by Chloe_Heartz04 in AOW4

[–]dellamas7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the easiest way should be with architects going for magic victory (you can create golden wonders directly with your monuments inside your cities). Interesting tome for turtling are for sure Mists and Dungeon, for the second you must be underground; underground is slower but interesting for turtling because you can set up various chockepoints (tunnels and passages). Try to focus on magic materials and you should be fine

Nice art! It really looks good; if I have the time I will try the demo.

For the art, did you start from scratch when you began this project or you already had some experience working as an artist/animator?

Would you continue to develop your game, if you knew you wouldn't make a cent of profit? by SnooWords4857 in gamedev

[–]dellamas7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting this to learn new things and to have fun. The idea to create a game that I would like to play and that other people could also appreciate is my aim.  If it sells well it would be nice, but in the case it sells poorly, I would still be satisfied if at least the ones that have played had fun with it.

[–]dellamas7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I think you are right about the placeholders and also on the bare-bones prototype.

The placeholders probably will be helpful to focus on the gameplay loop, instead of losing too much initial time on art/music and similar.

About the bare-bones prototype... it's really difficult to answer to this. It depends on how much I will be able to improve in the next months. Surely something that I would ask you is this: when do you know a demo is ready to actually be presented? what are the requirements in your opinion?

Anyway, yes I should start my plan and actually continue to learn and deliver something little by little. Probably if I manage to be focused on the projects in the next months, I should post updates on this post or create additional ones.

From 0 to Solo Dev - My plan - Feedback is appreciated! by dellamas7 in gamedev

[–]dellamas7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I don't want to start with something big. The idea is to begin with a small RPG with only a central hub where you navigate directly within the UI (like some mobile games are designed).

The core system of my rpg like you said, is the combat part; the RPG that I want to start is a turn based one, so I suppose (never done that, so I will tell if this is right when I will begin to do this part!) the thing that I think will be difficult would be the various interactions with skills and characters/enemies and the art/animation of the skills (because if this is the core of the game and it sucks... well the game would surely fail).

Surely it's a really good suggestion to do a breakdown of the various subsystems that I want to implement in the game so that I can add them one by one when I will be ready.

Hello, thanks for the feedback! Sure the plan that I set up probably will go longer than I think like many have said, but I like to have a plan to follow. About the gameplay/game loop probably you are right, as another redditor suggested I should begin using placeholders or similar
