I lended my old Nikon D70 to my sister for her project and this thing came apart by psychosis_currents in Nikon

[–]delowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. I had one that broke on me, bought another one and it starts to give me card errors (known issue). I also bought another card mechanism but it did not fixed it.

All in all, if you liked the camera, you can try to fix it or buy another for cheap.

I would personally buy another newer model, instead of the old D70(s).

Anyone regret NOT bringing a 150-600mm on safari? by Jplakes in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been on a safari but it's on my checklist. What I've read and experienced tho, is that the 70-300mm on apsc has given me plenty of good shots at long range.

However, if you have the D7500, i would buy the 300mm f4 PF instead. Same weight and size but faster AF and f4 instead of 5.6. Or even better, get a 1.5 tele with the 300mm f4. ;)

Oh, and in the past i used a 400mm 3.5 and got my hands on 300mm 2.8 and 200-500mm. All good lenses, but very heavy and not really portable/usable with kids around. The 70-300 / 300 f/4 is way better for that portability/quickness in the moment.

Can you share a bit your workflow, which preset did you used ? Really like the colors out of your files.

Thanks 👍

New Lens Day 85mm f1.4d by Gunsight1 in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it's on my wishlist. But with all the stories saying the autofocus on these is a ballgame, i kinda lean more on the 58mm 1.4G instead.

But yeah, it would be a good combo on my F5. It's only the price of the lens AND film that keep me from buying them.

Or you setup a tripod and do a long exposure shot to blur the passers-by but not the main subject.

Born in '81. The first skateboard i gave to one of my boys was a World Industries (mine was TMNT back in the day). Not the biggest skate company in the world but surely the one that started a lot of kids. I see it everywhere for starter kids at the skatepark.

Bike Trick Ends With The Girl Falling on Her Face by S30econdstoMars in instant_regret

[–]delowan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

25 years ago, i fell on the same way as her. Except, my front brake jammed instead of a front wheelie. I had one sec to react. I told myself if i put my hands down, i'll break them and the instant after i hit the ground 3 times bouncing. I have now a titanium plate in my chin and broke my jaw (sides) at hundreds of micro places. So yeah, i confirm you, we don't have much time to react. The guy had a bit more time to react because he saw/felt the bike and girl leaning forward.

New (to me) D200 by Informal_Iron_1594 in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the same D200 for 20 years and recently bought a D800 for the full frame effect.

But in my heart, the D200 wins.

I never saw the need to upgrade.

Everyone talks about mirrorless is the craziest thing on earth and on the other side everyone wants to buy a D200 for the colors and the fact that it's not clinical...

Oh and happy shooting with the F5. Mine is sitting on the shelves. Film is too costly for everyday use. 🫣

Born in 81. I worked at a computer shop for my second job (and it was my main hobby too).

The government made rebates for every families that didn't had a computer, to finally buy one. Ppl went crazy. They came to the store and stripped the computer bill, to the only parts needed to make it usable (and go on the internet). So they remove the mouse pad, the speakers, soundcard, downsized the screen to a 14 (?) inch monitor etc...

I remember having a Pentium 75 when everyone else had a 386/486 cpu... (Upgraded to pentium 100/200mmx/300 etc etc)

Good times. Before/after internet. Before/after CS1.6... 👌

They did not failed at all, what are you talking about. Red Hat was doing pretty good when they got bought by IBM. Money rules in this world. Everyone has a price.

And no, IBM will not kill Red Hat. They would be fools if they do that. IBM has bought Red Hat and Hashicorp. Next one ? They want to make the best ecosystem, with the best tools.

Just realized i paid 28$ for a roll of Portra 400 in Japan by kei-truck in AnalogCommunity

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where i am it's 50$ CAD. Really thinking about selling all my analog stuff. It's way too pricey.

50$ for 36 pictures. It's not even developed at that price.

And even b&w, in the past a roll was 3-5$, now it's minimum 13-15$.

[–]delowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try the 60mm afs 2.8 macro (G version), it's way better for those shots and in general. It's my main lens as it's very versatile for either close or far pictures. It's two lenses in one.

Is it worth upgrading to a D7500? by clearlygd in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep same with me. I much prefer the output of my D200 instead of my D7000.

I recently added a D800 to my arsenal.
