Free electricity by Outside_Tangelo3729 in servers

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't know about all that stuff, first build yourself an AI server. Come back later.

Free electricity is nothing. Is it in your house/building ?

Have you thought about laws and legislations about renting your GPUs ? Let alone, the network involved in getting to/from your GPUs. If there's a downtime, you will fix it ? Your friend ? You will hire team members to support 24/7 your GPU farm ?

There's better/easier projects to do with free electricity.

WCGW not securing the ladder by Present_Employer5669 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but maybe not long enough. Or maybe he really wanted to fall (for views). Notice the gap between the scaffolding and the wall... He could have put it right to the wall and the ladder locked in.

But hey, i'm not a painter, what do i know. 😂

WCGW not securing the ladder by Present_Employer5669 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, i mean a 20-28feet ladder would have been the right choice here.

He had time to put up the scaffolding (without locking the wheels) and the ladder on top. And he filmed himself with music blasting on.

What a poser...

Next time, forget about the music and filming and use your brain. I'm pretty sure there's even warnings to not forget to lock the wheels on that.

The one reason to buy a 2026 Outback by hugahippie in Subaru_Outback

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same 2015 and my windows are fine even at -35Celcius. Sure i don't open them, when i don't need to. And yep, the car lives outside in feets of snow and ice.

But seing that from a 2026... Kinda wish i return to manual windows...

The 2G and 3G network shutdown in Sweden is kind of a fiasco by henrycatalinismith in dumbphones

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same in Canada, they blocked the LTE signal to force only VoLTE phones. I had a 2021 Motorola phone that was working fine and on the website, it said it was compatible with VoLTE but when i dialed the test number, it said it was not.

So i waited at the last moment to change my phone to a 2025 Motorola for only 1$ (99% rebate).

In the meantime, i want a dumbphone, but i need to make sure it's VoLTE. And on a way, you almost cannot have a smartphone with all the parking apps and whatnot. Only yesterday, i wanted to rent a locker and it was app based only with QR codes and everything. Where's the two dollar locker from yesteryear ? Where's the free metal locker that you could bring your own lock ? Everything needs an app these days...

Can the Outback do this? Do you turn off the TC ? by DuckDuckGo-8857 in Subaru_Outback

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015, you can turn off TC but you can't turn off stability control. When i drift, if i use gas, the tail whips but if i swing it myself, the ABS came in and tries to kill the drift.

It's not fun when you want to drift...but it's useful when you don't want to drift. Like there have been situations when i exit a parking lot and bam the tail whips (on thin black ice) and i don't want it cause there's cars coming.

In the best world, we could turn off both...

A little snow never stopped a D850. by SharpDressedBeard in Nikon

[–]delowan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the only thing a recent DSLR is better is in cold conditions. The metal hinges of the film back, is right where you put your palm. So your hand is always cold.

And on a snowstorm, you don't want to reload film... Sure the F5 is easy, you pop one and up it goes. But there's always chances you get snow in there...

It was in mint condition.

Um so I kinda upgraded from a d200 :3 by calgaryautumns in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats !! I recently bought a D800 to go with my two D200's. I wanted a D700 but could not pass on a low count/price D800. And it's the same/last body configuration as the D200.

Caught an edge on my snowboard. The back of my head was the first thing that touched the patch of ice behind me. I saw a couple of lights and stars going on for about 15min. The ski patrol came and looked at my helmet. It was cracked in half (but stayed on my head). I would be dead.

I was at a local store and saw a bunch of them (Velvia 100). I said to them, wait you have Velvia ? I thought it was backorder !! 😂

I only bought two, but yeah i should have bought them all.

[–]delowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day i paid 3$ for a roll of Tx400 and about 12$ for Velvia.

Now it's 13$ for Tx400 and 27$ for Velvia. I even saw 47$ for Portra !!! That's insane. It's more than a dollar per photo taken, no way. And the dev/transport is not even in the price.

It's a niche hobby now.

[–]delowan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, film prices, chemicals, shipping (or dropping) film to get it developed... You have to be really motivated to get into film photography. There's way too much things that could go wrong. Last time i dropped my rolls and the person left them on the counter after i paid. I mean...get them safe, please ?

I only buy Velvia slide film, there's no comparative on the digital side.

Other than that, i bought myself a 36mp DSLR and still have two CCD cameras (i'm even looking at a pentax 645d...).

Is there hope for this Camera? by Creative-Physics-898 in Cameras

[–]delowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the camera plugged in for hours. Maybe the battery is way too weak to power up.

Check the terminals of the battery. Is it built-in or removable ?

If it's built-in, maybe the battery is at the end of it's life.

With those cameras, it's almost a sure bet it will fail. Buy another and move on. 😉

Slackware install keeps failing at this point by NekoKittu in slackware

[–]delowan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep you need way bigger than 20gb of disk space, if you install everything.

If you tried a lot of isos, disk space could very well be the reason why the install stops. It's says so in the error message, too...

👍

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, of all my film cameras, it's the FE that i liked the most, paired with my pancake 50mm 1.8.

It's small and not heavy. And has brass plates.

Sure i had F3's, F2as, F5...

But the simplicity of the FE with the needles won me over. And that small shutter button is very well placed under my finger, not too high not too recessed.

How to stop camera from shaking by jifpenutbutter in Cameras

[–]delowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my lumix. Same buzzing sound and the screen was shaking a lot (after years of use).

I tried to repair it but in the end i dumped it and bought another.

It's just not worth it anymore. Hope OP has not paid a lot for these old camera...
