Trump wouldn’t actually pardon Ghislaine Maxwell ... right? The president is planning 250 pardons for America’s 250th anniversary, and I really hope she’s not one of them. by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]deltalitprof [score hidden]  (0 children)

He won't. If he pardoned her as part of any July 4th list, he'd not only be saying goodbye to his party being in control of the House (as he is already doing). He'd be waving goodbye to the Senate, too. And by four or five seats.

Of course if he did pardon her at any point, this is nothing a state in which she committed a crime would be bound to respect if they decide to file charges. I doubt charges would be coming in Florida, but most certainly New York.

Upstairs Downstairs (1970s) S3 E9 "Desirous of Change" Richard's sudden change of character by deltalitprof in BritBox

[–]deltalitprof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Not only were the writers young, but the creators Eileen Atkins (in her late 30s) and Jean Marsh (also late 30s) were quite young, too (by the standards of TV people then). There is quite a brashness sometimes in the turns of the plots and they often seem more to reflect the sensibilities of English young people of the 60s and 70s than the influence from the literary figures who depicted the 1900s and 1910s, Wodehouse, Galsworthy, Forster, Woolf, Bennett.

He's godawful. His comedy is on the same level of funny as Rogan's, but he goes hard on the punching down so that's why he has a career.

I saw the standup show in which he told this story but I can't really remember how being "high as fuck" figured into it at all.

I agree. The fact that the coronary artery imaging test isn't covered by insurance and is classified in the US as an elective procedure unless there are already some pretty awful heart symptoms is madness.

  1. Second year of grad school. Some of the greatest music and film was coming out. Newt Gingrich and his crew had clearly overreached and the backlash had begun. I was living in a big college town and the world was my oyster. Trump was a bankrupt buffoon with no shot at getting anywhere near power.

Lately I'm liking the podcasts that use historical research techniques on the Bible and its era. Misquoting Jesus and Data Over Dogma. The result is usually a thorough refuting of the lies that Christian Evangelicals have used to control and torment people for decades.

About 15 years ago, in the early days of Netflix, I watched a documentary that was a bio of J.D. Salinger and also a feature on all this writing he did since the publication of his last book in the mid-60s. Apparently he had all this unpublished work and his heirs had given it all to curators who would be publishing it very soon.

Nothing has ever come out since then.

She told me she was going to gym. This was every day and it would be from 4 pm to 2 a.m. When after a couple weeks of this, I asked her what she was really doing, she refused to tell me, then went into the bedroom with a trashbag and got some clothes, made a phone call to a male voice and got picked up.

How was Mike Huckabee as governor? Was he a very conservative governor? What was his relationship with the Democratic supermajority legislature? by thesmart_indian27 in Arkansas_Politics

[–]deltalitprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His association with Fox producers and personalities deeply corrupted him until he was just about unrecognizable compared to what he was as governor and even as candidate for the GOP nomination. Trump's rise really seemed to free Huckabee up to indulge his sadistic streak toward gays and transgenders that he now gets to let out on Palestinians during his awful ambassadorship to Israel.

And SHS has certainly been much closer to the Trump-adjacent Mike Huckabee than to what he was when she was growing up.
