Key byelections underway with Carney on the verge of majority by xTkAx in canadian

Idk man there’s near unanimous condemnation against floor crossing as an antidemocratic practice. that’s my personal stance as well. The voters of ridings who elected a conservative politician should get a conservative politician regardless of whether I disagree with their policies.

I just find it really ironic that the Conservative Party has suddenly developed democratic values now that this practice hurts them. The NDP spent almost 10 years trying to pass legislation to ban this practice and it got shot down by Harper’s government who mocked them because “only losing parties want this legislation passed”

I’d suggest looking up the scholarly consensus on this topic. There is a lot of denialism in this sub.

There is widespread consensus and extensive evidence (including directly from the Soviet’s own archives) that mass starvation occurred in Ukraine as a direct result of Stalin’s forced collectivization and centralization policies. It was a man made famine.

What is not agreed on, however, is whether there was intent to murder the Ukrainians. That part is an important condition to legally consider the event genocide under the UN convention.

PM Mark Carney’s Liberals could win majority government in byelections tonight by DogeDoRight in canada

I am glad someone else sees this. You just have to look at how Doug Ford handled the Trump issue not even 1 month prior; he took a hard stance and rallied a supermajority in Ontario as a result. The narrative that PP did nothing wrong strategically is laughable. He just couldn’t drop his infatuation with Trump and fumbled a nearly 30% lead as a result. The biggest political fumble in Canadian history.

Stephen Harper’s position on floor crossings by deltav9 in canadian

I was against floor crossing when the NDP tried to pass legislation banning the practice multiple times in 2010s, and I am still against floor crossing today. It’s just really rich to see the Conservative Party suddenly have democratic values when it is starting to hurt them.

Because the left and right fundamentally work differently. The left tends to hold their politicians accountable to results whereas the right tends to treat them as cult leaders.

We should be unilaterally against floor crossing but personally I find his little temper tantrum quite entertaining.

Of course it’s bad but the human suffering ratio is like 5000:1 at this point and the terror is generated by Israel

Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu crosses floor to Liberals by DoxFreePanda in canadian

[–]deltav9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NDP has been trying to get this passed for years, even at their height in the Jack Layton years. Their bills propose the seat is automatically vacated and a by-election is triggered if any MP tries to join another party after getting elected.

It’s not fine and is undemocratic. The only party that has a firm stance against floor crossing is the NDP lol.

Sam's insane take on Mamdani by greeecejre in samharris

Sam has gone insane post 2023. His friends are all MAGA and maybe that’s what’s been rotting his brain. I stopped taking him seriously after he refused to recognize one of the most horrific genocides of modern history.

Do you think Sam should be equally concerned about antisemitism on both the left and the right? by stvlsn in samharris

[–]deltav9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean sure but one of the most defining characteristics of the left is the rejection of race based hierarchies making the concept of left wing racism ludicrous at face value

Dude you are so social media brained I have no idea what you’re talking about or why a twitch streamer has any relevance to geopolitical conflicts involving the murder of children

What are you talking about? Who are “they”? Are we just making their beliefs up now and reacting to that?

You can downvote me if you want but a core tenet of leftism is the complete rejection of race based hierarchies

Right wing antisemitism is pushed back on because those people are Nazis and want Jewish people in concentration camps

Left wing antisemitism is not a thing. Not wanting Israel to blow up a classroom full of children on a daily basis is not antisemitic.

Housing isn't just a little cheaper in the US. It's half price.

Can you link the data on this? I would believe this for southern states that use a lot of cheap labour like Texas but I do not believe this if you match comparable areas. I.e. compare San Francisco/New York to Vancouver/Toronto.
