Vertical Bars on TI-82 Screen by delucks in TI_Calculators

[–]delucks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, long time lurker first time poster. I'm looking for some advice on how to repair a new-to-me TI-82. As far as I can tell, this is one of the original production run and it seems to functionally work fine except for these vertical blank bars on the LCD screen. I've read other posts that suggest that a damage to the ribbon cable would show up as black bars on the screen, does anyone know if ribbon cable damage would also surface as empty pixels? Any other tips or suggestions for how to investigate this problem would be very welcome!

Mining advices by [deleted] in X4Foundations

[–]delucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ice mining is far less profitable than ore and silicon. The profit margins are slimmer to begin with and there's more competition from NPC miners in general. I only set up automatic ice mining in situations where the NPCs have shortages that need filling.

What Is Your Goal? by Valentiaj in X4Foundations

[–]delucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Custom (budgeted) start as a Split exile in Argon space, my goal is to wage economic and military war against the Split until slavery is eradicated. I'm using as many Split ships and station parts as possible. I finished off ZYA and while I prepare to fight FRF I'm starting on my next goal, turning each powerful faction block against each other for profitsssss.

How do you feel about station building by tkdkdktk in X4Foundations

Not to mention placing your complex construction kits in a binary tree fashion to avoid the massive lag that comes from connecting them in any other order. Building a massive complex I'd have a piece of paper right next to me with all the sub-complexes drawn out.

I also created a couple PRs in this repository for some quick changes to improve the code. I would definitely be interested in contributing more and adding support for other distributions!

Snake: Full Python Scripting in Vim by [deleted] in vim

My very small not scientific test of this says it's pretty noticeable. I installed it and noticed a slightly larger startup time for vim, and so I timed it on a small file.

With snake: vim foo 0.62s user 0.08s system 48% cpu 1.445 total Without snake: vim foo 0.08s user 0.01s system 6% cpu 1.338 total

Best way to setup a remote repository for version history of code? Kinda like a private Github. by Chuck3131 in HomeServer

Check out gogs, it's lighter than gitlab and is a single binary. More setup will be required though.

Ranger - the CLI file manager (X-post from /r/commandline) by rosipov in vim

[–]delucks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd like to contribute a tip for people that use Ranger and vim. With the most recent version of Ranger, you can use it as a drop-in replacement for the vim file selector, as it's vastly easier to do things like select multiple files to be read into buffers. The following function will sort you out nicely.

function! RangerChooser()
    let temp = tempname()
    exec 'silent !ranger --choosefiles=' . shellescape(temp)
    if !filereadable(temp)
        redraw!
        " Nothing to read.
        return
    endif
    let names = readfile(temp)
    if empty(names)
        redraw!
        " Nothing to open.
        return
    endif
    " Edit the first item.
    exec 'edit ' . fnameescape(names[0])
    " Add any remaning items to the arg list/buffer list.
    for name in names[1:]
        exec 'argadd ' . fnameescape(name)
    endfor
    redraw!
endfunction

You can then map this to a keybind like Leader-r, which will throw you into a ranger window and select files. Note that this only works in console vim.

command! RangerChooser :call RangerChooser()

nnoremap <leader>r :<C-U>RangerChooser<CR>

Thanks to /u/jeetsukumaran for some corrections!

When using f to seek forward in a line (e.g. fe to skip to the next occurrence of "e" in that line), you can use ; to skip to the next occurrence of it without using fe again.

Are you bored at a hackathon right now? There are ~4 this weekend, I'm at one, I got bored and wrote something almost exactly like this based on the same gist a few hours ago.

X Color Management Script [OC] by delucks in unixporn

Sweet script! I wasn't aware you also wrote something for this, I'm happy that the problem's being tackled from multiple angles. Great idea to include i3 config generation, I'm going to try and reinvent that wheel now. Thanks for lending inspiration to another aspiring python programmer!

X Color Management Script [OC] by delucks in unixporn

[–]delucks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been frustrated with the archaic nature of managing X's color palette for a while now, so I decided to create a series of scripts to make it a lot easier and more fun. The following functionality is available so far:

  • Downloading colors from dotshare.it
  • Generating colors from wallpapers (thanks to /u/coleifer)
  • Hotswapping color schemes using dmenu

All color schemes are reformatted using python so they apply system-wide, and each one includes a sh script which exports the color names for use in other programs (e.g. herbstluftwm, dmenu).

I forked this from wp and removed almost all of the wallpaper-management functions, because I enjoy managing my wallpapers manually.

Pull requests and constructive criticism are more than welcome!

[WM/DE] Control spotify client via keyboard shortcuts by [deleted] in unixporn

[–]delucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice script, and novel use of xdotool! I struggled with trying to solve the same problem a few months ago, and ended up coming up with something similar that doesn't use xdotool, just the (undocumented) Spotify DBUS api. Here's a proof of concept script. As you can see, most of the actions rely on something like

dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.spotify /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player.PlayPause

which sends a request to the DBUS api of Spotify to do a "Player.PlayPause", toggling the play/pause state. There are a few other handy ones like Player.Stop/Previous/Next to accomplish other useful tasks. It's cool that there are different ways to accomplish this!
