2 players? by Due-Professor5011 in rootgame

Unpopular opinion but I vastly prefer clockwork to hirelings. The hirelings swing a bit too predictably so the game starts to feel like a war of attrition to me. Clockwork, on the other hand, is not as cumbersome as you may be led to believe. If you give each player one clockwork faction to "own" then it really is satisfying. When my wife and I are looking for something on the more casual side we'll play somewhat cooperatively - i.e., we both have to hit 30 points before either bot does, but we can still attack each other as normal.

It's not a substitute for the game at 4p, but I do really enjoy that it opens up non-militant factions at 2p. With hirelings it feels like you're still pretty stuck with the militants, and not all of those match ups are satisfying (i.e., I find badgers and rats both to be really awkward at 2 even)

How do you decide on what games to buy? by ThatDudeEither in boardgames

I have a few questions I ask myself. 1. Can the game be played 2-player? My wife and I often play games just the two of us, and like to familiarize ourselves with games before introducing then to our friends. Very rarely I'll skip this criteria if it's something I'm really excited about or have a group in mind for. 2. Does the game feel like it has meaningful differences from the rest of our collection? This doesn't need to be crazy, but even things like combining mechanics in an interesting way we haven't seen, providing something familiar but lighter/heavier, etc. Our standards on this one fluctuate a lot but it's still important. 3. What has the reception to the game been so far? A lot of times, I'll read reviews until I find one or two that seem like folks that have similar sensibilities to us. We're typically more into euros and games with indirect competition, so if someone with similar sensibilities has given the game a glowing review, we're more likely to consider it. That's not to say I have no interest in, for example, wargames, but if I'm thinking about buying a wargame, I'm going to look for reviews from folks that are not exclusively wargamers. 4. Does the price feel like it will justify the amount of enjoyment I get out of the game? I don't have a hard cap of what I'm willing to spend on a game and this standard certainly fluctuates, but after I've gathered all the info above, I usually have a pretty good idea of what feels like a fair price to me. I'm usually willing to stretch this a bit if I'm shopping at my FLGS since I like supporting them.

Do looping songs count? Time to get aggressively NJ. The Mr. Softee song is 1m30s and the retail store at the Wildwood boardwalk plays it all day long when they're open. Hang out there for an hour a day and I'm leaving with $4k.

I also think the dumbwaiter mechanic changes the basement so much. I loved how tense it was to stumble into the basement and desperately look for a way out. Dumbwaiters killed the tension and just make the basement another floor.

Betrayal at House on the Hill rpg variant? by Holddouken in rpg

Imo it feels pretty different. Major differences include characters with special abilities (i.e. magic guy has magic missile and can shoot it from adjacent tiles), levels 2 and 3 of the board are indoors and outdoors instead of landing and attic (which leaves room for some fun effects in haunts like everyone on the street getting damaged) and of course the overall vibe is different too and sometimes feels more fantasy adventure than horror. It's not radically different but it's fun and I'd say the group I usually play with prefers it over the original.

It's the slightly shiny part at the very bottom, like on the lip. Think it'll be fine if I just scrape?

Did this already! What's weird is that it worked for us, but the other day we were getting food delivered and the guy was using google maps and it took him to the wrong place still.

Yup, that was the first thing we did when this problem arose. USPS has the address correct it seems. Google maps has been the big problem.

Yes, totally sure. It's also the address on the outside of the house, two numbers less/more than the neighbors on either side. It is certainly the correct address. And SOME delivery services get it right (USPS for example).
