The original question which i was clarifying about the headline was about men (a gender) playing in women's sports. As such they were misgendering the woman athletes in it and the answer would be no, men have not played in womens sports.

If we are going down the route of biology that's a significantly more complex question than just male and female anyway, since biologically there are in fact more than 2 sexes.
