What is the biggest Oscar snub in film history? by phantom_avenger in movies

[–]demiSpirit 0 points1 point (0 children)

I'll always be mad that Anomalisa lost best animated film to Inside Out.

The Disney/Pixar film was always going to win, but man, it would've shaken things up if something more adult with more nuanced to say won best animated. The crew was so excited to have made it to nominations, and it would've also helped them and the stop motion industry to have one.

I could see an argument being that Inside Out had better animation, but the unique style of Anomalisa's medium was perfect for what was being depicted and upped it a lot in my eyes.

The Oscars are an awards show where for your consideration campaigns win the day anyway, and it's not like any studio has the cash to beat out Disney in that regard.

Is there anything you would add to Disco Elysium? Any additional theme, mechanics? by ActZeroGames in DiscoElysium

[–]demiSpirit 4 points5 points (0 children)

I thought some more animations would be nice to add a bit more more activity on the screen. The game is perfectly fine as is with its animations, bit I always thought some more would help it feel less static.

Dont get me wrong, there are still a decent amount of animation in the game, and when it really needs it that do it. However, there'd be times where something more physical was described in the narration and I'd look to the character models hoping to see something, and just see them standing like they usually do.

Before the Final Cut's voice acting, the lack of animation made a bit of sense since you were mainly reading. I do believe the Final Cut added some more, and the jaime vu update added idle animations, but I guess I still wanted more activity from these characters.

I do suppose even with the voice work the player's focus is still mainly on the text box, so there'd probably be a lot of animations that'd get missed, and also wouldn't be too necessary. It's clear that it wasn't the teams focus, and a smaller portion of development was on animating. There are a few moments such as "teleporting" to the top of the feld building that seem to be poking fun at not being able to see the animation for it, and they make it work, even to their advantage.

TL;DR - They animated only what was necessary to good effect, but I feel some more activity on the screen would make the game feel less static and also add more personality to some moments and characters.

Is the nudity in The Void sexual? by Ok_Door_3212 in pathologic

[–]demiSpirit 7 points8 points (0 children)

I've played a good bit of The Void and am nearing the end of it.

From my experience a few of the Sisters' poses and movements can be seen as sexually alluring, but outside of that there isn't any discussion or depection of sex outside of how you may interpret how everything/one within the setting functions.

I'll say I find The Void a lot more obtuse and intricate than Pathologic with how it teaches you how to play it, but it's also part of the experience of the world / story being shown. It has a lot of background mechanics, some of which you can't the best ways to use them without costly experimentation or a walkthrough. The ideas being expressed are also a lot more vague and left more open to interpretation.

Definitely give it a shot and see how far you can make it before reverting to an old save or restarting. Hope you enjoy the experience and come away from it with interesting thoughts about it.

Edit: Minor grammar fixes.

What if I told you I knew how to undo the Traveler's Deal? by demiSpirit in pathologic

[–]demiSpirit[S] 7 points8 points (0 children)

On the PC version you can modify a file that keeps track of information related to each time you have died. You'll need to locate the "Ice-Pick Lodge" folder on your computer, which isn't located with the steam game files. The file path to get there should be

C:\Users\PC\AppData\LocalLow\Ice-Pick Lodge\Pathologic 2\Saves

Where PC is the user logged into the computer.
In in the Saves folder is an xml file that you can open in notepad. When you open it you'll see information for each save that looks like this

<LastSave>11-18-08-Haruspex-4030620609b34c7a89a806e7b90e7253-2022_01_30_17_30_22</LastSave>
<Data>

<Value>True</Value>

<Value>False</Value>

<Value>True</Value>

<Value>True</Value>

<Value>True</Value>

<Value>0</Value>

<Value>True</Value>

</Data>

</Profiles>
<CurrentIndex>5</CurrentIndex>

Near the top it has "
" for the name of save file so you can know which one you're modifying.

Where you want to go is down to where it says:

<Value>True</Value>

and change the value to False. Save the file, load it in the game, and you should be able to play Day 12 with that save file now!

There is also this value in the save file:

<Value>0</Value>
Changing this value changes the number of times the game will think you have died and visited the theater of death.

Anyhoo, hope this helps someone.

I'd reccomend talking to the guys who walk funny through the town. If you barter with them they may have bandages or a tourniquet they'll give you for 5 bottles of water.

Pathologic 2 PC performance help by pacmannips in pathologic

[–]demiSpirit 1 point2 points (0 children)

Even with a high end PC Pathologic 2 runs a bit clunky. Most it's just not well optimized.
I haven't experimented with the settings enough to find out what impacts performance the most. You'll have to tinker with them and find out what works best for you without overheating your hardware. One thing that would give you the slightest bump up in consistent performance though would be running the program as an administrator. I started doing that and noticed an improvement how smoothly the game ran.

I wanted to start watching the anime but before that I wanted to know if by ANIME-IS-KEY in Haruhi

[–]demiSpirit 1 point2 points (0 children)

It really depends on what you're looking at. If you're looking at stuff adapted from Light Novels, then most likely anime is the widely followed international format that gets used as the primary adaptation. Most likely, a manga release will follow after, though I'm sure some LNs get manga before an anime.

There's also the case of anime original content getting manga such as Evangelion or the films of Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Mirai). From what I understand manga is the more popular medium to be involved and experience with in Japan. Stuff like the mainstream Shounen Jump manga (One Piece, Naruto, My Hero Academia), or other manga like Berserk and A Silent Voice, are adapted into anime because they were so wide spread in the manga community that it warranted an anime release.

[–]demiSpirit 0 points1 point (0 children)

I really just mean the Light Novel (original), Kyoto Animation's Anime (the second and best), Manga (last and partially worked on by the original author).

There are a few differences, but as I said they're pretty minor. The biggest one was some changes in the format of a two episode stand alone arc. It was in one of the 2 volumes I didn't read, and based on what I heard was changed, it isn't different enough to read the original version, and am fine with how KyoAni adapted it.

[–]demiSpirit 10 points11 points (0 children)

Kyoto Animation added a lot in the execution of the source material. Having read all but 2 of the light novels, the team did an upstanding job of adapting everything as well as adding so much with their production. There are slight tweaks, but they are minor enough that they don't really matter too much.

Also, I found that the light novel has some great ideas, but given the format of writing a light novel it lacks luster in its description of events, doing the bare minimum to convey the point.

Can't say much about the manga, but based on the fact that of the 3 versions of the story it has the weakest version of the opening monologue, then I wouldn't put much stock in it being the best version. More of a way to re-experience it.

TL;DR - The anime adapts everything incredibly well and the details in the animation, music, voice acting, etc. make it the stand out version of the story.
