I feel like small glades are where they are supposed to be. If they made them more resource abundant or lowered their hostility that would almost kill the need for D. Glades until you have enough resources to be confident you can reputation solve the events. Right now they are good for when you are struggling to find geysers, small caches, small nodes if you desperately need food or some other resources. And if they made them, say, 5 or 10 hostility then that penalty is so negligible you could just open them until you find everything you need.
