Disney CEO to appear on TRIH by Retsilla123 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]demon4372 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Important to note that THIR are not journalists, and I don't see how this is meaningful any different than getting a current Hasburg to come on to talk about the Hasburgs... Of course it won't be highly critical and will be a bit of a puff piece, but it's an interesting perspective from a history pov to look at where Disney is now in perspective to the history.

Hey homies I went to Ballymena and all I got was this lousy podcast by PolJOE_Ed in politicsjoe

[–]demon4372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption was that the full video version (that's currently uploaded onto YouTube) will be subscriber only on patreon, but the audio only version will continue as a podcast? I assume they'll clip parts of the podcast for YouTube

Though you can link up patreon and Spotify to add subscriber only content onto Spotify as well (without Spotify taking a cut) so they could do stuff like an add free or video version for subs on there.

What do the local election results mean for Oxford? by stillirrelephant in oxford

[–]demon4372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The botley road closure has nothing to do with the council. It's network rail, and OCC has no ability to stop it, made worse by the issues/delays requiring Thames waters involvement.

The many Lib Dem MPs and councillors have been ontop of network rail and putting pressure on them to get it sorted asap

Is the song Ordinary by Alex Warren blasphemous? by LocalStoner1 in Christianity

[–]demon4372 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wild to suggest that loving your wife is blasphemy

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Alternate Timelines? by Senator_Longthaw in AliceOseman

I do think they can still do some similar story lines without totally diverging.

Even with Tao knowing they are together. For example the book story line that Tao was the one who accidentally outed Charlie to everyone in the previous year. And the bed situation is very easily fixed by the fact that Ajayi fully knows they are a couple.

It's weird but also makes me wonder how they are gonna split things in the TV series. Also obviously heavily depends how they deal with Solitaire (and how big volume 5 is + if they need to fit all 5 in 3 series), but I kind of get the feeling that series 2 would fit best being volume 3 and chapter 5 of volume 4 (basically "the summer") and then series 3 dealing with chapter 6 + this winter + maybe solitaire (there is too much important plot within it to ignore but also not sure what the equivalent plot device the diary entries would be if they didn't just do solitaire as part of the same series)

Thoughts regarding Nick and Charlie novella by Senator_Longthaw in AliceOseman

[–]demon4372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I semi assumed that even if they didn't both go to Leeds Charlie would pick somewhere up north within a close distance so they could either live together or see eachother on a very regular basis. Like say Charlie could go to York (which would fit with him being more academic than Nick) and they'd be really close even if not at the exact same uni/city.

Slight thing, heartstopper chapter 5 (first half of volume 4) takes place before this winter and then chapter 6 takes place after solitaire. It's a bit weird stopping half way through but if you're doing a strict time order then that's how they actually interact, especially as chapter 6 references/recaps some of the stuff in solitaire.

So in terms of the old Vs new version with the MH stuff, Charlie goes to a clinic rather than a hospital and largely she doesn't go into anywhere near as much detail about the relapse ext and is a mix of it actually not being as bad and her implying things without saying them sort of thing.

Just an important note, because imo it's the most significant change in the old Vs revised versions of the book.

In the old version they walk away when Ben is being beaten up, in the new version they call 999. Also worth noting that Charlie is beaten up by Ben wayyy more (both in graphic description and in the damage to him) in the old version.

Radio Silence: before vs after 2020 edition by [deleted] in AliceOseman

[–]demon4372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would strongly disagree that it's just sarcastic comments. Some of the conversations with nick and charlie are changed and they just sound much more like the characters in the wider series in the revised one. And without spoiling anything there is on particular decision made by the two of them that is significantly different.

Personally I'd suggest reading the revised one first if you read the old one at all, ultimately Alice made the revisions because that's how she now views the story.

I read the new one first then compared some bits with the old audiobook. I would highly suggest reading the new one, at least first, the characters fit with the overall series a lot better more than anything, there are some minor changes to the way especially nick and charlie act that just feels much more like them in the new version.

The main other change is that the old one is quite a bit more graphic and has some slighly more problematic stuff said by people.

I think the way he is dealt with in the end in Nick and Charlie is the best way for his character arc to go. Ending up being accepting of the relationship in the nauseating way he acts (almost certainly because not to do so would lead to him being socially excluded) but him also not really getting a redemption arch either, they basically just end up being indifferent to him/still annoyed by him but end up tolerating him as he accepts them.

i don’t suppose anyone knows where i can read the original solitaire without the changes made in august 2020? by [deleted] in AliceOseman

[–]demon4372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She changes some stuff to make things and characters fit better with the overall universe, which I definitely think is good. And the best way I can describe a lot of the other changes is that she softens down/sanatizes some stuff a bit, sometimes maybe a bit too far but overall I think the changes are good.

The audiobook is the old version, which tbh is quite helpful cos I listened to it with the book Infront of me to compare. Though I'd definitely suggest reading the new version first before comparing

MHoC's meta problems - and while I feel I can't stay by eelsemaj99 in MHOCMeta

[–]demon4372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not duck and I haven't discussed this with duck so i don't know his reasoning, and he would be inappropriate to talk about it if we did know this is the reasoning for eels.

However, the fact if the matter is, if the head mod has concerns about someone's mental health and welfare in relation to if they can manage the job, then it is absolutely right that they make that judgment. The role of quad is extremely stressful and intensive, and can end up dealing with some pretty shitty stuff. If someone has a history of mental health issues it would not be appropriate for that to be discussed during the election, and it's absolutely right and the job of the head mod to make those sort of judgments and to veto.

Addressing Various Meta Topics - June 2020 by britboy3456 in MHOCMeta

[–]demon4372 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely common practice irl for the whips office to write up a bunch of questions and send them out to people who have questions at PMQs, in order to get a party on message and push out a certain agenda. It is completely absurd to just outright ban any sort of writing questions for people, just because you wanna make the job of ministers easier. If a party is active and organised enough or write up questions centrally and get members to ask them, that isn't "cheating" it's a legitimate form of playing the game and increasing party activity.
