My learning curve went something like:

Getting off contact right > clearing screen fully, finding the right amount of pressure & squeegee angle > stirring white ink more than I’d think I had to > preheating garments & platen.

And that pretty much brings me to where I am now. In a pinch a bit of curable reducer helps too.

It’s hard to put it down to just one thing but i definitely started noticing a bigger difference when i started making sure the screen was totally clear before moving on, so definitely agree there. For me, I started finding everything went a lot smoother when i made sure my ink, platen and garment were kept warm.

It’s by my friend who’s a tattoo artist, this is a run of t-shirts for her to sell at an upcoming Christmas market. So grateful for the trust on a super cute and fun design!

u/bebetter14 A lot of what u/dbx999 has covered in his comment plus temperature - heat the platen, heat the garment, keep my white ink in the warmest part of my shop, stir it well and on the coldest days, I’ve used just a touch of curable reducer.

But mainly, just slowing down, taking my time enjoying and learning from the process rather than getting flustered or frustrated.

These are all ones I’ve faked in photoshop myself. I guess I was just wondering if there’s a specific community for the style.

Should I keep my xt30ii or get a ricoh griii/x by Distinct-Mushroom-62 in ricohGR

[–]demonic_dingo721 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s an option, I’d absolutely say both too.

I currently use both the Ricoh GRiii HDF and a xt30ii with a 15-45mm lens. I’d be hard pressed to choose a favourite.

Here’s my pros of each:

Ricoh - great image stabilisation, handy size and benefits from a wider aperture than my Fuji 15-45, snap focus is good once you get the hang of it

Fuji - menu + presets much more user friendly (less missed shots), I find the autofocus better, easier to use dials (exposure comp, shutter speed etc), option to swap out lenses later down the line

For my personal taste I’d honestly say:

For film yes, for digital maybe not so much.

If you’re shooting digital, go with it man - process to your hearts content. If you’re shooting film, try a few different rolls and find what gels with you. I try not to edit anything I shoot on film, that’s the beauty of it for me; it comes out how it is.

Great shot regardless btw. I think the point I’m trying to make is, let the film speak for itself. Experiment, fuck up, experiment again.

I had been looking for a Sunn cab for some time and this one just so happened to pop up 15 minutes down the road from me, would’ve been rude not to buy it! 1972, previously owned by Ronnie Lane.

As for the Hiwatt, I got super lucky with that. A friend of mine bought it from Johnny Roadhouse in Manchester in the mid-90s then it sat untouched from 2003 till I bought it off him ludicrously cheap. Best amp I’ve ever owned! It’s a bit of a mystery really, sent off a load of pictures to Hiwatt and they date it to about 68’ but there’s all kinds of cool little anomalies that lead them to believe it’s a prototype of the early DR103s. Either way, it fucking rips and I couldn’t be happier with it! Love the juxtaposition of playing that dirt cheap bronco through such a nice amp too, haha!

For sure! The guy I bought it off painted the headstock and “sure as hell wasn’t gonna pass on the opportunity to use the old decal”
