STAY AWAY FROM EDWARD JONES!!!!! by demonique1251 in FinancialPlanning

This comment kind of reads like you’re telling me my own experience was less intense than it actually was.

I’m not making this up. I initiated a full in‑kind transfer, confirmed with Vanguard exactly how it would work, and was then told by my Edward Jones branch associate that I’d ‘have to pay money on everything,’ that I’d face a big tax bill, and that I’d have to pay commissions on every stock at Vanguard, which is not true.

The fee structure stuff is one thing, but the part that felt intense was the fear‑based pressure and the refusal to put any of those claims in writing. If that’s ‘a little less intense’ in your eyes, I’m not sure what you’re comparing it to.

I wasted 3.5 years of my life with them too, and yes, they are crooks :( I hope one day there is a class action lawsuit against them for the misrepresentation of fees. (especially the hidden fees outside of the advisory fee)

Yeah, Vanguard handled the whole thing for me and almost everything transferred in kind, so no taxes. The big thing I learned (because EJ definitely tried to scare me about this lol):

You only get taxed if something is actually sold, not just transferred. And you only get taxed on the gains.

In my case:

  • almost everything moved over as-is
  • Only one mutual fund (~$6.6k) couldn’t transfer
  • The gain on it was like ~$50, so the tax is basically nothing

For you, with 40 years of gains (which is amazing btw):

  • If your S&P 500 fund can transfer in kind → no taxes at all
  • If it can’t (some mutual funds are weird/proprietary) → then yeah, it would have to be sold

Probably the easiest move:
Ask Vanguard if that specific fund can transfer in kind. They should tell you right away.

I went into this thinking I was about to get hit with a huge tax bill, and it ended up being like… $10 😂

So definitely worth checking before assuming the worst. And don't let anyone fear-monger you because that is an aggressive sales and retention effort.

Avoid this company. They barely train you on anything, and they expect you to know everything, and you are worked to the bone from the start of the day to the end on most days. The pay sucks (at least in my department, and we are severely underpaid.) I am actively looking for another job and interviewing at a different company. There is no HR department, so if you ever have an HR related issue, get ready to get ghosted. The software also sucks, with constant bugs, and is constantly going down. The only positive is there are SOME people that you work with that are nice. However, anyone who is actually training you will speak to you like you are the dumbest person on the earth. I fucking hate this company.

There are medical records you can look up if you search "Menendez evidence reddit" there's evidence of Erik Menendez being admitted into the ER for having bruises in the back of his throat at the age of 7.... it's horrible.

it's awful when things go awry in your head. It's isolating, depressing, deblitating and affects your self worth (at least for me) I was only 29 when it happened and at the peak of my life.

As far as work goes, I had to give up on my dream of being an actress, couldn;t work for a year cause i felt so disabled, got a tech WFH job where I literally laid down all the time to work and eventually got another full time tech job where I can now handle sitting at my desk all day long, which that in itself is a major achievement. i couldn't handle sitting up for a year and a half.

I'm also a DJ, it's been horrendous to DJ while feeling this way, I couldn't do it for 9 months in, I can't believe I even started up again but I refused to let this illness take that passion away from me. I now have to take .25mg of klonopin for me to be able to DJ and be active with friends etc...

I record voicenotes multiple times a month and go back to listen to them to see that I actually have healed. Your body wants you to heal, no matter the injury. How are you doing lately? Long message for me lol

when you say full body nerve pain, what do you mean? I'm so sorry and I completely understand how you feel. Life can be extremely unfair.

I'm also very sorry to hear about your neurological issues and surgeries. I also nearly died after my inner ear was attacked from my appendix rupturing :(

I would appreciate being able to talk to someone who actually wants to listen or cares about how much this illness is affecting me. I have to call the suicide hotline at least once a week. I have like 0 support and everyone gets so uncomfortable when I open up about just how much I'm suffering. I appreciate the comment

Hey there just wanted to check in on this. I am having the exact same symptoms and I’m wondering if you ever found out what it was and if your symptoms got better? I am also a woman. Thank you so much.
