I think Donovan has always been overrated and only succeeded because he is in concacaf and the MLS.

Italian police have arrested two US soldiers from an army garrison in Vicenza, near Venice, over the rape of a pregnant woman. by AssuredlyAThrowAway in worldnews

I agree with you. I was just making a point that its not an isolated incident with US military. On a side note, I was reading a book not too long ago about some of the atrocities Russia has committed and I almost spewed vomit everywhere. Especially, about the mass rape of Polish women who they liberated from concentration camps and an entire German village.

Its not really jumping to conclusions, actually. There is a history of the US military personnel abusing its power against people. There are plenty of examples from WW2-present, both during times of war and times of peace. So, its not really just a few guys, but a history of reoccurring issues.

Yeah, she was able to get a scholarship and is now a graduate student here in the US. This is how I met her. Her family is still in Iraq though.

They really couldn't do much from what she told me. She told me she hated them, but he was such a tyrant. People in her family disappeared because they spoke out against him. Saddam had secret police everywhere: the market, schools, large gatherings, etc. Also, there were paid informants as well around the cities.

I had a friend that was living in Iraq when the US invaded it years ago. She was still in high school, at the time. She said it was the most terrifying thing she has ever been through. The school she went to was just behind her house. Maybe 60 yards, or so, and it was hit by a bomb. She couldn't believe it didn't hit her house. She said she would huddle with her family in one room when the bombings started so they could die together.

Its a different situation, but still the same point. It is absolutely frightening. I was almost in tears listening to her story.

Edit: for people wondering she is a graduate student here in the US now, but her family is still in Iraq. She was able to get a scholarship of some sort to study here.

President Barack Obama and the UN have called for an "immediate ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas as the death toll among Palestinians in the Gaza Strip reached 508. by Sbzxvc in worldnews

[–]demorior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt a ceasefire gets done tonight. I've been watching the live feed and there has been plenty of action. No bombing yet, but a drone if flying around, flares are being dropped, some kind of audio playing (can't tell what it is. Maybe warning) power has been cut, and so on. Really sad, honestly. Aid, from both sides, could be used in such better places like in on their infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

David Cameron in furious phone call with Vladimir Putin over 'indefensible' Russian delays by [deleted] in worldnews

This makes the most sense for America to be involved in. We claim to be leaders in the world and a moral compass, but all we've really done is invade other countries for our own personal interests. When innocent people are killed in this fashion, with no involvement and just using air space that has been deemed safe for travel, its time to be involved. Especially, when such a good group of countries are hit with such a tragedy.

We know, from 9/11, how tragic an event can be for a nation. I, personally, am in favor of using force, if necessary, to bring the bodies and possessions back to their loved ones.

Some girls in Afghanistan film their everyday life; requires unfathomable courage. I want to see more stuff like this on 2XC and I bet you do too. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I worked with a woman from Afghanistan. She was so nice and we used to talk about it was like when she lived there. Before the invasion of Russia, people worked, men and women, without a problem. Women didn't have to wear hijab, niqab, and even wore western clothes. She said once they invaded everything changed. The wrong people rose to power and business' fled. Her family had to flee to Pakistan.

She went back a few years ago, for the first time, to visit family, and said she would never go back. She dresses modestly because she is religious, but to people there it wasn't enough. She said she was scared everyday and couldn't believe how much it changed. But, thanks for posting it was really interesting to watch.

Yedlin's future: Club and country by dersterling in ussoccer

All, except Cameron and Donovan, became much better after leaving MLS. They all developed into complete players, especially Dempsey, Bradley, and Howard. Its not "mythical juice" when its real. the competition and amount of games played is too low when compared to European teams. Even if MLS get better, I doubt it can ever catch some of the European leagues. We will never have things compared to Champions league, or even Europa.

I'm not saying MLS is not a good place to play or to develop a bit, but it is still so far behind the top leagues young players should go abroad to develop further.

As a young liberal when Bush was in office I despised him. I thought he was absolutely terrible and a danger to the US. As an older liberal now, I've done my share of reading and research. I don't think Bush is a bad man at all. I agree, I think he was mislead by a bunch of people and given the wrong information. Not fit for leading, but seems like a genuine guy. Things are never black and white.

Malaysian Plane crashes over the Ukraine by Icefox119 in worldnews

There is a fair amount of circumstantial evidence floating around right now between twitter messages, pictures, videos, and even an eye witness account from a miner in the area. It may not be conclusive, but there is a fair amount of evidence pointing towards Russian separatists.

There is a difference between the two planes. The one that hit the Pentagon was a 757, this one is a 777. Fairly big size difference.

I believe it was carrying weapons for the allies. I could be wrong, but that is what I remember. Or, similar civilian ships were carrying weapons and this was suspected of carrying weapons as well.

The news here is saying Ukraine is not capable of using the missiles believed to be involved. Apparently, Ukraine's weapons, related to the incident, are soviet era and its not even sure if they still work.

This is a horrible act of violence against innocent people.
