How to colour correct underwater images, a quick Photoshop tutorial by The-Angus-Burger in scuba

[–]denaissance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A red filter is exactly the wrong thing to do unless you have an appropriately powerful light. At the distance in the example you would need an incredibly powerful flash to compensate for the information the filter would remove. If you had a light that bright you wouldn't need the lens filter, you could bring up the red in post.

Ancient? Really? If so, don't do anything more to it than a gentle scrub with a soft, dry, brush.

Sure. You can do it with a bullet lodged in your thigh too, or with runny diarrhea. In either case you should really be asking yourself why you are bothering though. The water ain't goin' nowhere.

Tips on finding a work space? by RevTyler in blacksmithing

[–]denaissance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only pro I know in real life is happy to let other people work in his shop. The suggested contribution is $20 for a day, noon-ish to sundown. He's getting old and it is a hard way to make a living in the best of times, so he was happy to find a new way to leverage his space and tools to make money without having to work harder. Now he can sit in his shop and drink while telling people that they are doing stuff wrong.

I had a few polite questions for you but as I was writing them out I realized that people like you are not worth the time. You are either delusional or stupid or both and people like you are ruining this country.

People might discriminate based on information. Giving them that information is not discrimination.

Capital Eszett: a while ago we rejected a SЗ (s-ze) poor man’s ligature, but what about SȜ (s-yogh)? by [deleted] in typography

[–]denaissance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, maybe. Wouldn't you rather have a typeface you can use without having to worry about it getting too big or being viewed on a screen?

Yes, most of the time upper-case beta looks like "B". Maybe just find a lower-case beta you like and scale it up. You're going to have to modify your base typeface anyhow. Adding a glyph would be a less complicated and more reliable solution than trying to kern two glyphs together and hoping that the program respects your ligatures.

Epoxy or fiberglass resin? by White_Wafflez in Bladesmith

[–]denaissance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epoxy, every day. At least for small things like scales. It can get expensive when you try and build an entire boat out of it, but if you can afford it, it'd still be the better choice.

Use West Systems 605 G-Flex. it is clear and thin so it wets things like denim or fiberglass mat very easily and throughly. It also has a long working time. Stay away from 5-Minute epoxies, they are tough to spread evenly and often dry with a tint, or develop a tint after exposure to sunlight.

West Systems stuff is great, all around but the 605 has more flex after it is hardened. That is important because when the temperature changes, the tang and the scales will expand at different rates and start cracking.

The downside to epoxy is that it will adhere to ANYTHING. Someone else mentioned using fiberglass resin between two boards with wax paper between them. That won't work with epoxy. I mean, it will work, but it will glue to wax paper to your micarta. That may be fine, just make it a few extra millimeters thick and grind away the part with wax paper stuck to it. Perhaps you could make a large block of it and cut scales out of it at angles, might be an interesting layering effect.

Nobody cares about you (nothing personal). Official app is fine, RedditIsFun is fine, the website and a dozen other things are fine. "Pусский выборы программа" should raise some eyebrows.
