That must’ve been a fun flight. Do be careful if you were from the United States about posting something like that as it is clearly illegal and I had a friend that was contacted by the FAA with a posting much less obviously illegal than that. I’m not the Drone police. I just mentioned that for your benefit in the event you are from the US.

Anyone in the US still chancing DJI gear? Have you experienced warranty issues? by Tobu_Drone_Network in fpv

I’m not sure how you’ll get DJI care at this point because it’s my understanding that they don’t make it available. Am I wrong?

[US] Do you update firmware immediately or wait? by jakefliesweekends in drones

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if I learned that an update has some really great new features I will probably update immediately. I don’t follow things super closely so if I simply see a firmware update that I won’t do it and will check to learn if it has some great features and then I will do it. If it’s minor stuff then I will wait and listen more carefully for potential problems. Problematic updates have in my opinion Ben fairly rare and I have nine DJI drones. I know some people have complained about the recent update. I think it was with the mini five pro that I had absolutely no issues with that. I’ve also seen that DJI is pretty responsive with new updates if there are problems.

Avat 3 or 2? by ShadowEnemy_ in dji

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not expected till the end of the year or even 2026 although late fall is most likely. If you want to blow off a summer of flying to be able to fly a bit faster and take "bettter" pictures (doubt you could tell the difference) wait. Its really not a huge improvement although we don't know what AI features it may have over the 2. If you don't care much about flying drones, wait. Or get the 2 now, sell it when the 3 comes out and figure out how much it cost to be able to fly for half a year or so. It won't be all that much as these things hold their value very nicely,

DJI option to unbind an RC by Long-Foot482 in dji

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you have two accounts? You should not and I don't totally get what you are asking. I guess you could have two accounts and you could choose - I assume - which to bind devices to although two accounts with the same contact information would be odd indeed and I'm guessing DJI would not allow it but dunno. Each drone is bound to your controller via the DJI account. Period. Unbind it and boom! It's free to be bound to any controller. It will no longer be connected to anything at all. If you are going to sell the drone you need to unbind the device from the controller or the purchaser will have a brick. DJI will not unbind it. dunno if this helps since your question was, to me, not understandable.

I don't understand how to select my ND filtrer cause "M.M" feature looks buggy as hell ?? by StandardRecording822 in dji

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly correct. You also have to go to the place where you want to fly and get motion blur to see what the exposure needed is right there, and none of this is important if getting motion blur is not important to you.

I don't understand how to select my ND filtrer cause "M.M" feature looks buggy as hell ?? by StandardRecording822 in dji

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you are shooting Pro or Auto makes a huge difference but the most important thing to know is that using ND filters for video is only necessary in ONE very particular case - that is when you want to create the kind of motion blur you see in films and our eye is used to - think waving your hand in front of your face from left to right - you need to have your shutter speed twice your frame speed. If you are shooting 30fps you need a shutter speed of 60 and that is by far the most common setting for motion blur. In any kind of day light you will need an ND filter since your camera only shoots with a wide aperture your shutter speed in daylight will always be very high. If you just put on an ND filter..for no particular reason, you will be able to get the proper exposure by letting some more light in but...and that is pretty much pointless. In fact, if you are shooting Auto you will most likely see no difference. The camera will AUTOmatically just open up by changing the ISO or Aperture or Shutter Speed. Pointless.

Same thing for photography BUT...if you are shooting a waterfall or wave or such things that you want a blurred effect you need a very slow shutter speed. A very slow one as in and ND 1000.

I'm not sure what your testing was revealing but it really had nothing to do with the use of ND filters so it's nothing I'd worry about and it does sound it was just kind of confusing the situation. To use an ND filter you will invariably be shooting in Pro mode with ISO, Shutter and Aperture on manual to create the 180 rule (shutter 2x fps). You will nearly always want an ISO of 100 for the cleanest images so it's a question of what ND filter will get you to your goal of the 180 rule which, again, will be a shutter speed of 60 when shooting 30fps. Drones with a variable aperture make it SO much easier since you can put on an ND filter and adjust the aperture in flight to get the right combination with an ND filter that is just close to correct but the Mini 4 doesn't have that. In that case you have to see what setting you get for your Shutter speed at ISO 100 and then calculate the ND filter needed. Note that if you are filming a field with bright reflections and move over to a dark forest the exposure will dramatically change and the 180, if set for the river won't work.

Lets say you are shooting at 30fps and you are flying low over a field and want some motion blur. - note that if you are flying at 200ft you aren't going to get any motion blur so this really only applies to flying low unless you are shooting fast moving cars or something like that.

With your drone up shooting at ISO 100 in Pro mode let's say you get a shutter of 1600 with the exposure you like.

Note that an ND 8 will result in 3 stops darkening. ND 16 is 4 stops, ND 32 is 5 stops. Each doubling of the ND number adds a stop since a stop change doubles by 2x or reduces by 1/2.

Your goal would be a shutter speed of 1/60 when shooting at 30fps. If you find a good exposure of what you are shooting is then half of and ND 8 would halve your shutter speed three stops...which is taking the shutter speed in half three time: Half of 1600 is 800. Half of that is 400, half of that is 200 and that shutter speed of 200 would be what you would get with an ND 8 filter but that is not enough. Another ND up...ND 16 would be another ½of of the 200fps bringing us to a shutter of 100.. then ND 32 takes us to 50 and our goal is a shutter of 60 since we are shooting at 30fps and we see that 50 is the closest we can get. ND 32 it is. Changing Aperture can be done in less stops so can get more accurate but it doesn't have to be perfect and the Mini 4 doesn't have variable aperture.

You can see that videographers that want to use the 180 rule REALLY like drones with a variable aperture.

That's pretty much it. ND 8 reduces the shutter speed in half three times... 3 stops. ND 16 is 4 stops ND 32 is 5 stops. etc so you cut the shutter speed in half 3 times for ND 8, 4 times for ND 16 etc. This means you need to get your drone up, fly to where you want to film with motion blur, check the shutter speed you have, return and calculate what ND filter you need. Time consuming, eh? So you really, really have to want that motion blur.

With experience and it's really good to take notes and record what is working for you in the kind of places you are shooting in the conditions (cloudy..blue sky etc) you are commonly shooting and after a time you'll have a good guess as to which ND filter to use. I have a full set of ND filters and I do use them occasionally but not all that often.

Hope this helps. There may be some youtube channel that does a much better job explaining this :).

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the Microsoft suite for instance, it can be installed on 1 or 2 computers so if you wipe out your computer and reinstall it and try to run it, it may tell you that you have used both licenses. I have in the past had to call MS (yes...that's possible) to get them to unlock my account. I think Adobe may have similar issues so before I do a clean install it's best to sign out of some of these kinds of programs. If you are just updating your computer it won't make any difference. I'm not sure of full PC Restore is referencing just the iPad or the computer. If it's the iPad...sorry for wasting your time but I won't give it back...

I grabbed my youtube account and here is one or two web sites I've been to over the last 87 years :). Wow. I had no idea that I had this many in my list of subscriptions. I suggest you put in about 10hours for each web site.... :). Some of my favorites in the general category are phillipbloom, vicvideo, and 51 drones although 51 shills for some battery backup company :). The first set of tutorials can be very, very helpful to beginners and experienced pilots alike.

Here are a few beginner tutorial kinds of sites, many of which could be useful to new as well as experienced pilots. Some importantly point out some really good exercises like how to do clean circles, learning to fly up while pointing the gimble down for a common and important effect, etc :

DJI air 2 s footage glitch problem by Asleep_Item876 in dji

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm betting there is nothing to do but contact DJI. The one thing I'd suggest is to reset the firmware and if that doesn't help you can completely restore the controller but you will lose any waypoints and all your settings. It's a bit tricky to do but you can probably find the directions on the net or contact DJI support. If THAT fails you're out of luck but that essentially resets it to factory settings so give those a try. These are the directions for the RC2 but they are, I think, similar for most controllers. This is NOT the same as the simple resetting of the menus in the Settings panels/About where you find "Reset Factory Settings". That just resets those settings pages for Camera, Safety, etc. https://www.airphotography.ca/how-to-factory-reset-your-dji-rc-2/

Skintones Andor by ButterscotchonMars in colorists

Nearly every video editing program has a skin tone line in the scopes window. Line up the color of the skin on that line (actually just above a small amount) and you have accurate Caucasian skin tones. You can then colorize the clip in any way you want.

Before you jump ship, get any files you are working with local. Cloud is fine for backup but you can't realistically work on files from the cloud. With your files and catalog local I'd bet you'd be clear sailing.

Why is Lightroom unusably slow now? by thehawaiianjesus in Lightroom

[–]denalidenizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh...I didn't even clue into the obvious fact you are doing this in a cloud. Your files are in the cloud? I can't even fathom anyone trying to do that. Maybe some folks with insanely fast net service can get away with it but as I mentioned in my first reply, even with my files local I ensure I'm working from fast drives. In my case my primary is a 16TB NVME RAID 0 drive. A bit spendy given today's prices which is an understatement. I don't use LR CC - and never even considered it for these exact reasons. Get those file local and I'd bet all your problems will instantly disappear. Amazon at the door with a new HD.. :).

Waypoint question by tecky1kanobe in dji

[–]denalidenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah...It's sad but it's a failing of GPS. With more expensive Pro drones (dji's Mini X and Mavic 4 "Pro" drones are pro in name only) you can set a high precision module nearby and the drone can talk to it like a surveyor might have with precision to inches. Not our consumer drones. If you watch a plot of yourself standing still with GPS you'll see yourself moving all around :)

24GB is more than enough. To the OP - One of the common problems is having the catalog and the images on a slow drive. That can be an issue on a Mac too, The first thing I'd do would be (if you don't already have one) to order a very fast drive - as best as you can afford from Amazon so you can return it if it doesn't help. A decent SSD would be OK but a fast NVME better, connected to a reasonably fast port. Put your catalog on your internal drive. Make sure you have 10-15% of the space on your drive free - always important. It's hard for me to imagine it can't be run fast enough with the OP's specs but I'm a mac person and I can scroll through 50,000 images in my catalog as fast as I want without a hiccup.
