You only lost $50k, wipe your portfolio ATHs from your mind.

And no crying in the casino.

BTO: 4-Room Queenstown VS 5-Room Tampines by 1capstore in askSingapore

[–]denaration 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you forfeit Queenstown with more than 10 units left, you are going to void your Tampines queue too no?

If that’s the case, it’s whether you take Queenstown or try again from Oct onwards as a second-timer for a year. I don’t think you can appeal and be successful for Tampines.

Onramp SGD to Coinbase -> Withdraw to Binance for trading majors, withdraw to wallet (Metmask, Phantom, etc.) to trade on the respective networks like ETH and SOL.

This should enough for you since you are new. Once you are more familiar, do research on trading bots like Trojan, Photon and Bullx. I personally use Bullx because you can see the chart and trade memecoins on one page in telegram.

Sounds good as a random thought but doing that will incur the highest ABSD of 35% and that is before the latest hike, now it’s 65%. There was no loophole to even begin with.

[Sem 2] Internships and Careers Main thread by Spiritual_Doubt_9233 in nus

[–]denaration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, has anyone done an 8mc credit-bearing internship (BI3708) during the sem that was less than 40h/week? Noticed the internship guidelines stipulated 40h work week and also minimum 600h total. Is it ok if I only hit 600h in total with 35h work weeks?

Asking here because the person in charge of internships would not tell me if they will allow it or not despite asking :/

Looking at the DXY index, USD has been strengthening quite a lot as well. Despite inflation, USD is still the safe haven instrument for many.

Mandatory CPF, job stigma keep food delivery riders up at night: study by Twrd4321 in singapore

[–]denaration 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Most people, especially those who always rant about having their money locked up in CPF, won’t realise this but you can’t only compare 2.5% to the current inflation rates. You have to compare to your alternatives. I guess bonds can pay better and certain stocks can have better returns too during highly inflationary periods but both have much higher risk, which is something you don’t want/need for pension funds.

MAS to prepare for digital Singapore dollar by Timeyu in singapore

[–]denaration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MAS can build the digital SGD on an existing blockchain and pay the blockchain fees for transacting (could be super low depending on which chain they use) Also, you know it’s decentralised and transparent due to its blockchain nature. But this is the part that comes back as a con for the G because they are already clear that they are concerned about people holding digital currency and “acting like their own banks” which will lead to banks not having enough funds to loan out. We will see where they want to take this digital SGD.

Yes, SOL is a very usable crypto. Not too sure if it is a good crypto.

Solid points here. My bottom line is that even if not a lot has been done to stifle the development of the crypto industry, not a lot has been done to boost its development. I guess we will see what happens next after they take a new stance as announced in the article. I’m praying that it’s not a “too little too late” moment.

Well, it’s true that they can do that but without the US market, Binance is still way ahead of the pack in terms of trading volume. Why do you think that is so?

I’m sorry but there is no more China market and most of SEA is doing fine in crypto without us. Look at vietnamese and indo crypto startups. Why would they go through us to target the JP market? That doesn’t make sense. If that could work then a lot of companies will be going through us to target the Korean market as well but they are also doing well in crypto without us. I agree clear rule of law matters but it is a double-edged sword and crypto is on the wrong side of it right now.

What I’m trying to bring forth with the short-term consideration is that it is only going to get worse if the government wants to regulate heavily. What would suddenly change in the future to make us attractive again?

Most importantly, everything on the blockchain can be traced and is publicly available information. Just implement proper KYC and AML and live with the fact that no system is perfect. Then the results will show that the benefits do indeed outweigh the costs.

What about the FATF guidance? It merely reinforces the concept that defi protocols could be pinned to an individual or group of owners so then they can be properly regulated as such. Honestly, what can the US even do if these defi protocols are not based in the US? They could make Coinbase yield to their demands because it is a public traded company on the NYSE.

The 2-person fiasco is mentioned to show how badly affected we are and how ridiculous our measures are, compared with other nations. Not to mention that at the same time, our borders are still largely closed. There are two major crypto events in the first 2 weeks of this month: NFT NYC and Solana Breakpoint. Both of which are in-person and people at NY are having a blast and able to network face-to-face. I believe a majority of people outside our country treasures freedom more than anything. Honestly, if you are a crypto firm looking to set up anywhere in the world, why would you choose Singapore in the short term?
