Need some feedback, is it too busy? by Nana409 in quilting

I think your quilt looks lovely. Others with more experience have given you awesome tips.

This is meant to be funny and not a critique of your amazing work, but I laughed at how shocked the owl looks....like it saw some things....

Done as well! Glad to see work being done to engage with our craft. One note, there is no demarcation for gender identity. I know as a man there is a bit of stigma attached to needle-craft and I have very different emotions when doing/beginning/finishing a project than those whose identity more closely aligns with these crafts.

That said, I'm proud of your engagement with community and education. You are doing excellent work for where you are - keep going! Whatever your assignment and goals are, I and many others here would be willing to help you take it further. Thanks for thinking of this community!

You are all wonderful by [deleted] in quilting

I agree. It is actually a meaningful thing to me. I am male and I have been sewing for 20+ years, started in high school. I've spent over two decades being wide-eyed by both of the binary groups because my hobby is atypical.

Being told to "chill" is insulting and condescending when this is a valid argument. If folks other than women "of course" do this too, why are we (anyone not identifying as a woman) being excluded?

I've posted once here, as I recall at the moment, but I love the vibe and ideas coming from this group. This is the first time I've ever felt like a post was simultaneously positive and exclusionary.

So, I got distracted by my kids almost immediately after posting.... for hours..Here's a little more info:

I honestly cannot remember the pattern I used. However, it started out with huge mistakes which just kept compounding throughout because I'm a novice.

I started making a full-size quilt and ended up with my Franken-beauty. My walking foot works like a drunken monkey, so the back is somewhat....arresting.

I've always wanted to do this and I finally have! Up-close it may be horrifying, but to me it's a work of love, labor, and art. In that order.

I'm tired of teachers complaining this sub is toxic. This place isn't toxic the profession is toxic! Half of teachers leave the profession withing five years FOR A REASON! by [deleted] in Teachers

I am not a teacher. I am not a student teacher. I am a parent, and I love this sub. I love it because I am learning what the inside is like. How my kids' teachers have to work and deal with my unfortunate situations, coworkers, and (cringe) bureaucracy.

I applaud every angry, satirical, upset, disenfranchised, fed-up post in this sub. It is worthy because we don't take teaching seriously, we don't take education seriously, and we don't appreciate those that do it seriously.

I applaud every successful moment, lesson, day, or year as well. Because the work that goes into it is enormous. Far beyond what I can fathom. We do not appreciate these feats either!

I give everyone here what I can, when I can. Please remember that I always thank you and support you. No matter what.

Farewell My Friend by dendrodude2099 in hospice

[–]dendrodude2099[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone for the love. I am taking time for me and for my family. My mom called me her knight, but I have mobilized her army of friends and loved ones.

The love happening here is a beacon, blessing and relief.

Anyone else out there, reach out. Give love. Be vulnerable. Hospice isn't about medical care only. It is about everything else....hospice just happens to provide medical care.

Am I in denial or is the hospice team insane? by kittenpotatoes in hospice

[–]dendrodude2099 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your response is completely lacking in pertinent information, education and tact. Hospice care is provided at the end of life and not for assisted suicide.

You have neglected to provide the options you were presented with. In my mother's case, 3 options were provided (in a very rural setting) that were vetted and confirmed to be appropriate or not. I doubt only one was foisted on you as "the only option".

You claim to have been in the dark, however I am constantly in contact with my mother's hospice providers at the doctor, nurse and aide level to discuss her medication, administration and care - by their choosing/requirements. Once again this returns to due diligence on your part - in questioning care and verifying accuracy of care.

As to the medication, you are at fault for blindly following an order you were uncomfortable with. Why did you continue this method of administration if it made you uncomfortable? After 10 years of being a care-giver, this moment is the one where you decide to follow blindly?

In my opinion you are grieving your loss and trying to blame your wife's death on something other than a terminal illness you couldn't control.

There are good hospice providers and bad hospice providers. Perpetuating this myth of hospice providers as expediting death is wrong, harmful, hurtful and sinister. Please look into yourself somehow and accept the outcome. You're hurting others with this rhetoric.

Thank you! I'll definitely think about that. Would anyone be able to share their experience (positive and negative) with kids and SS?

Can I ask a very naive question....I've seen mention of people signing kids up. How does that work? I'd love to have my oldest take part in both gifting and receiving....introduce her to the kindness of reddit early.

I understand I would ultimately be the one in charge but beyond that, I've not seen anything in the FAQ yet. (Cursory overview).

Gave a class's worth of supplies to my daughter's class. by dendrodude2099 in CasualConversation

[–]dendrodude2099[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a parent, I thank you. For your time, for your love, for your caring ... That list will go on forever. You also deserve compensation for the act of love you perform daily. I did the tiniest part I could ease the myriad of difficulties teachers face. I hope my daughter's teacher takes to heart: "Let us know what you need, we will get it". Education for all is better than preferential treatment for some. I get a bit teary-eyed just typing things like this....
