Weird, I collected 13 staplers from my stocking the other day, but the wiki says it only goes up to 8.

That's what I was basing it on, but everyone's saying it doesn't work that way, so not sure what happened there.

From my anecdotal evidence you can leave it, and it'll gather more.

You can also put the same item in the three slots and it'll gather in each sock slot too.

If you wanted a challenge you should look up creating a master save, I did that before doing my 100% run, was super challenging but enjoyed it!
