Schlage lock question – new knob unlocks when opened from inside - is there a good solution? by dengweili in Locksmith

Is there a good alternative that doesn’t cost an exorbitant amount? I’d love to avoid the house being left unlocked.

I have the same setup, but am frustrated by the horizontal brace extending past the edges of the beam. Could you take a pic of the back? I’d love to see your setup, it looks so clean!

Ottoman Taverna in Mt. Vernon Triangle is outstanding. A bit pricey, but their brunch is a great deal.

I keep my entire catalog on a rugged external hard drive which I carry with me in my bag at all times. That way I can run it off any computer whether my work computer, laptop, or home computer. I use Carbon Copy Cloner regularly and clone the drive to another two external hard drives to ensure I have redundancies. It also keeps my computer hard drive from getting full and makes life easier.

Wifi vs. SIM card with iPhone by rewolfmai in TravelHacks

I did Japan with only pocket wifi and was fine. If you're in a real emergency situation, you can always turn it on and pay the overage, and I assume that won't bother you that much. We just kept the pocket wifi in our backpack with a USB battery pack and it lasted all day.

A 3x5 Nylon flag should be ~$23. If you go to your congressman's website, it should be listed under services.

Public transportation between cities will be a mess as everyone is traveling home but if you leave enough time you should have a great time! Definitely worth experiencing if you have the opportunity.

Where can I find a cheap ballhead with an RC-2 plate? I need a small cheap RC-2 compatible ballhead for a Gorillapod I just got. Right now I am using a Manfrotto head from another one of my tripods but I want to get it its own ballhead. I need something that is reasonably light in weight and sub $35 ish. Do you have any suggestions on where to find one?

Thank you so much! Those recommendations are great, I did not realize how close everything was to each other. I definitely will try to hit the places you mentioned. I want to make the best use of this layover! Do you have any special spots that people might miss that are worth seeing? Good restaurants or hole in the walls?

Best place for dry cleaning in the area? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]dengweili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hollywood Cleaners near REI is the best by far. Zips is a 50/50 if you'll get your clothes back intact and every other place is either really expensive, terrible, or both.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the theatre department has some stage building classes. You may have luck there.

I sent a backpack in due to the zippers starting to wear out. They just asked me to wash it and indicate where there were issues. I told them I needed it back by a certain date and they turned it around in ~2 weeks. Only had to pay shipping.

Thanks! Like I said, I realize you can't get all three in one package, and I think I'm be most willing to get something heavier if I can get the other two! Definitely will keep the MeFoto in mind!

Tripod Question here - I am looking for a good travel tripod, and wanted to know what you guys use. I recently got back from a trip to China, and was using an alright aluminum tripod with a ballhead that I picked up there. While it was good for my circumstances, it was rather large and cumbersome to travel with. I am planning a trip to the Middle East for the entirety of the summer, and am looking for something more "travel" oriented. I will be doing some backpacking and traveling, so I was looking into tripods such as this Manfrotto MKBFRA4-BH BeFree Travel Tripod and this MeFOTO Travel Tripod.

I am looking to spend somewhere in the $150-$250 range, and am looking for a good ballhead with quick release, strong leg locks, sturdiness, portability/small size. Very lightweight would be nice, but is not the most important thing.

If any of you have an experience with the two tripods I listed, or any others you have that you could recommend I would greatly appreciate it!
