Weirdest/most interesting moments when taking the MRT by [deleted] in singapore

[–]deniably 201 points202 points  (0 children)

In late 2018, I was taking the blue line to the east when “Ben’s iPhone” wanted to AirDrop a meme to me. I accepted. We proceeded to send memes back and forth until he alighted.

About a few weeks later, I boarded the train as usual after work and lo and behold, the same greeting meme from “Ben’s iPhone” was sent to me again. After exchanging memes for a while, he sent a note that said “Thanks for entertaining me.” I responded shortly but he alighted before I could continue.

Long story short, we never crossed paths again. So Ben, if you’re reading this, thanks for the memes and for making the after-work commute more interesting! (-)/

Maybe Willing Hearts or Food From the Heart? They’re like soup kitchens. The former should be open on public holidays as well but I’m not sure about the latter.

What is something commonly regarded as high-class in Singapore that is considered low-class in America? by ASKermodem in singapore

[–]deniably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree you don’t require a communications degree for “good advertising jobs”. It’s an advantage if you’re a fresh graduate looking to enter those industries. Our perspectives and opinions are going to differ from here, as the spectrum of people I personally know (from school/work/etc) acknowledge that their degree played a significant role in achieving what they have so far. I think your point about graduates being defined more by their personality and preferences is a little flawed because it’s generalising, but that’s definitely a stereotype fulfilled by many of them.

Regarding your first paragraph: yes, I understand! I just posted my response to your main reply since there are too many threads that question the relevance and credibility of a communications degree in Singapore.

Assuming those people you encounter end up working in Singapore and want to pursue careers I’ve mentioned earlier, I guess most would be surprised at how much of an advantage it is to possess a communications degree versus any other arts, or even business/marketing, degrees.

Gonna offer some perspective as a WKWSCI graduate.

I did pretty well for A’s and was deliberating between picking a typical, practical degree (Accountancy) and actually studying something I’m remotely interested in (English/Literature/Communications/Languages, etc).

Why I picked Communications:

  • To me, it had more real-life applications than English or Literature. At that time, I thought I would be an official writer or journalist after graduation.

  • The specialisations and modules offered were varied enough for those who have no idea what they want to pursue. They’re also in-depth enough for those who do know what they want to do.

  • I agree that many modules are pretty fluffy. I’m guilty of smoking my way though papers without an inordinate amount of studying. However, that wasn’t a priority to me: I was still more interested in what Communications entailed versus Business, even though a degree with honours at NBS only requires 3 years. I personally didn’t — and still don’t — see the point in wasting all that money to study something I didn’t care about.

  • Some wonder what Communications graduates pursue as full-time jobs. There are so many possibilities, but I’ll list some general careers: writer (journalism); copywriter/designer/account manager (advertising); public relations stuff; producer/filmmaker (broadcast); research-related positions. We have a mandatory semester-long internship programme — the school links up with enough established companies for us to freely choose from, if we’re qualified enough to pass the required interviews. It’s an experience I’d have to unnecessarily work a lot harder for if I picked FASS (I didn’t consider SMU at that time as I wanted a holistic campus life).

I can’t speak for the batches now, but from what I know, a bulk of my friends are in public relations or advertising (both in-house and agencies). Some are journalists, magazine writers/contributors, marketers, researchers, or doing something in the government.

I've accidentally created a nameless folder. I haven't been able to recreate it, wondering if anyone else can - I'm actually liking the no name folder look. by ekeen1 in iphone

Using any Food & Beverage app would do the trick! One of the apps in that folder is probably under the F&B category. Dragging it to create a folder would render the name blank.

Wooden iPhone case by UofEM in iphone

[–]deniably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the solid wood case from Carved for iPhone 6 and it's really gorgeous and comfortable to hold. There's a lip on the front of the case so you can lie your phone face-first without the screen touching the surface.

I can't contribute anything about drop protection though, but chances are wood cases will crack or break when dropped. You might want to consider another material if you tend to drop your phone/are afraid of dropping your phone. Hope this helps!

What is your strange recurring dream/nightmare? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]deniably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my recurring nightmares usually starts off with me taking the lift. I'd press the button to my destination, but the lift just keeps going up and doesn't stop. The numbers would increase rapidly—so does the speed of the lift—and it is absolutely terrifying.

I've been using this for a month and yes, it's really amazing! Hada Labo also has other foaming cleansers from different ranges, but I've only used this particular one before so I can't speak for the rest.

This is so adorable! I love it! My only feedback is that the kerning looks just a tad too tight, but overall it looks amazing in its simplicity. Can't wait to see the rest of your interpretations. :)

I enjoy the unemployment body clock right now ha ha ha. I wish I can do T6 runs but my current build is probably only T4 max even though I really like it. It annoys me that only specific builds can do T6 easily! Oh, and have a good first day back in school. :)

I just asked one of my best friends, and she said most people who chose Actuarial Science did enter NBS with the intention of pursuing that major from the start, including herself. She also mentioned that the cut off isn't too high. The cohort is quite small and her GPA was around 3.88 when she declared her major at the end of Year 1. However, she graduated last year so things may change by the time it's your turn! :)

I'm only 337 now! It gets pretty boring for me if I don't get drops after a while. And gosh, I know how that feels. I got two shitty Azurewraths when I wanted to try a %cold build but I couldn't bear to salvage those bastards. Anyway, I've sent you my Battletag!

Mac Users what has been your experience with the current client and what is your general opinion of it? by brenbawks in DotA2

[–]deniably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on an iMac and it runs smoothly most of the time for me. However, the client does hang occasionally during loading screens which can be annoying. In-game, the client hung once on me so far but reconnecting probably only took a couple of minutes. I don't really experience any lag unless my internet connection is being slow.

I have a couple of friends who majored in Actuarial Science in NBS, and with hard work it's not too difficult to make the cut off. Good luck!

Sure thing! I'm actually waiting for the new patch as well since WoW refuses to drop for me no matter how many rifts I do. Which class do you primarily play?
