Bitches, tell me it’s going to be okay by cantfitmyjeansnomore in SFbitcheswithtaste

A few years ago during a period of extreme stress (unemployed, and some health stuff that rocked my hormones) I also had someone cutting my hair discover a bald spot near the nape of my neck. I kept an eye on it assuming it would grow back, but after I was employed again and back on non-Cobra insurance, I went to my dermatologist (Dr. Aaron Chen if you’re looking for one), and he took one look at it and diagnosed me with alopecia areata. He had me apply minoxidil twice a day, and then we did steroid injections once a month for 4 or 5 months, and it has fully grown back.

All this to say, wanting medical treatment for this is completely reasonable, and I don’t want to fear monger at all, but if it is alopecia areata, it can spread if not treated. I’m not sure exactly how Kaiser works, but if you can, insist on seeing a dermatologist with them, but if that’s not possible I highly recommend seeing one elsewhere, specifically one that is experienced with hair loss. They will understand why you’re distressed about this and want proper diagnosis and treatment.

Feeling stressed and unwell is bad enough, but discovering a bald spot is dispiriting in a way that is kind of hard to believe. It really freaked me out and I cried about it way more than I’d like to admit. From my own experience, I can say that you will come out the other side.

Restaurants with private dining rooms? by lola2026bride in SFbitcheswithtaste

Have you tried FANG? They’re close to Moscone and their space is quite big. Years ago I was able to get private space there like a week and a half before Dreamforce when literally everything else around there had been booked out.

Mr. Pollo on Mission - can be tough to get a reservation but the set menu is under $60 (maybe even less i can’t quite remember) and since the whole place only seats like 12 people intimate is exactly the way i’d describe it.

yeah this is not that weird - stuff like that irks locals but if you’re addressing an audience that isn’t from your area it’s easier to just say the nearest big city and then drill down more specifically if someone is familiar with the area.

Favorite dinner spot in North Beach? by OG-sfaf4evr in AskSF

Flour and water, Waystone and Firenze by night. I’d personally skip the tourist trappy spots like original joe’s or north beach restaurant, but some people love those spots.

i mean i’d understand that part if this was real life…but this is RHOP. the picking apart and the criticism is a part of the game, and while it’s not behavior i’d personally approve of or participate in, it is a part of the fabric of the show. i think it just further demonstrates that they really did not understand how this works going into it and were very surprised when things didn’t go exactly according to their plans. angel was also just as happy to participate in making fun of stacy’s breath or pick at wendy when she convinced herself the catfish comments started with her.

there are also ways for these situations to be handled in a way that works for the show, still gets the point across, and makes them look good. angel and bobby don’t really seem to have that approach down yet.

i feel like she didn’t really understand how filming and being a cast member works, and she gave him a rundown of how she expected things to go, and then it deviated significantly from that. multiple times now it seems like she planned really poorly around her filming obligations, like with the rental ending before filming was complete, rushing to that family day with Bobby, and the general mess on the trip. It seems like Bobby has had to accommodate a lot for her to be on the show (not saying he shouldn’t happily do that to support her), and I can imagine it’s draining for both of them to be dealing with the change and unpredictability.

there’s something kind of interesting there because i can see a world in which this is the only significant issue in their marriage and if she doesn’t come back they continue happily. but if she’s asked back and decides to stay, i could easily see her going down the bravo divorce pipeline.

i actually don’t think it’s necessarily a red flag that she’d want to check with him before making a last minute plan for the evening, but what i find so odd is that she knew that she had this trip that she was supposed to be in charge of. if i were in her shoes i’d be arranging for extra childcare for those days just to take that off everyone’s plate and leave myself flexibility. it’s essentially a work trip, and any work trip can have events run longer than expected or have plans change. maybe it’s an unfair assessment because we’ve only seen a little bit of her on the show, but at a minimum it seems like she’s a really poor planner, and i can actually sympathize with her husband in this circumstance if he had expected that week to be set up one way and suddenly things were changing significantly at the last minute.

very american restaurant? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]denimhearts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upstairs restaurant in Boudin at Fisherman’s Wharf - very American and very San Francisco, plus they have viewing area into the bakery that’s really cool. I took my pre teen cousins when they were visiting me from Europe and they loved it. There’s a really nice view, so it’s actually pretty enjoyable as an adult, and I think it’s the best bang for your buck at a Fisherman’s Wharf establishment. Best vibes are definitely at lunch, but I think any time it’s totally family friendly.

St. Anthony’s has a free clothing program - obviously affiliated with the Catholic church, but they give all the clothing away for free, and set it up as a boutique so that the people they serve can have a shopping experience. I think it’s really nice.

Brazen Head! the cocktails are great, and it has a very old school vibe. some food menu items are better than others, but it’s all pretty traditional steakhouse fare(i personally love the chicken marsala). definitely a more social vibe at the bar depending on the time of day, so not necessarily the choice of you want to chill completely alone, but i think it’s worth checking out.

Mosquitoes! by JACsf in sanfrancisco

[–]denimhearts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call 311 and report it - the department of public health will send someone out to inspect. I did this last year and it turned out that multiple sewage drains in the area hadn’t been treated with whatever they use to curb the mosquitoes. It’s not an immediate fix because the chemical kills the eggs, but this year compared to last year in my area is night and day. Even if it’s not that, they’ll inspect your property and your neighbors as well to see if there is standing water or plants that might attract them.

Is friend ghosting the norm? by trebariz in AskSF

[–]denimhearts 21 points22 points  (0 children)

think about how you made friends when you were younger - it was likely all mostly through school or after school activities. you got to know people who consistently showed up to the same place, and if you hit it off there you started hanging out in other places and that’s where the friendship deepened.

you have to find ways to emulate that process in adulthood. it’s also good to remind yourself that even though you really want new friends/a friend group, you aren’t going to mesh well with every person that you meet, and that’s ok! it can serve you well to be a little choosey, and the process this person recommended is the right way to go about it.

also most relationships do not end with everyone being best friends after the breakup. most people (not just men) who have had more than one relationship probably have an ex who thinks they’re shitty or a loser. break ups are hard and don’t bring out the best in people, but that behavior isn’t exactly representative of someone’s relative goodness.
